Great video. I'm a Panasonic user myself, but I've played with a few of the Sony cameras. I've seen some of the work produced by students using a Sony a6000 and to be quite honest, I was very impressed.
Whilst I'm here, just want to throw out there to amyome getting started in film; get an a6000 or a Panasonic G80 or similar - learn to produce great content with it, stunning cinematics and short films or documentary films; Go out there and shoot the snot out of your kit, squeeze everything you can from it - then, when you eventually have the funds to buy the best the market has to offer - maybe a Panasonic GH6, S1H or or whatever -, you'll be able to utilise it to a far greater degree and blow people away with what you can produce.
It makes no sense for someone just dipping their toe into cinematography, filmmaking in general or documentary filmaking to go straight out and pick up a Panasonic GH6 or an S1h. There is the argument that you can grow into the latest kit with bells and whistles, but I wouldn't take that approach; besides, you might get into this game and find you don't even enjoy it, then you've lumbered yourself with expensive kit that you now have to sell.
Trust me on this. First learn your craft, then invest in an upgrade.

    Good tips, the only thing I'd recommend is if someone has an A6000 and they're wanting to start vlogging while this is a solid gear recommend list, it might be worthwhile to list a productive order of acquisition as most people pick up gear over time and not in one go. I'll happily throw my recommendations out and there and would encourage others to do so;
    1) Camera w/lens/power/media
    2) Audio - Rode SmartLav is a great starter lav, Rode VideoMic Go is a great little 3.5mm sub $100 shotgun mic.
3a) I'd suggest a couple cheap RGB lights (like from Viltrox) first, then the Godox 60W (which is a cracker light for the price). You can light initially with the small RGB's, just bring them in close. Then later go for the Godox and the move the smaller lights to catch light/hair light/background colour source etc. I've always found it smarter if you can plan to dual-use something, so when you retire its primary purpose you already have another way to use it in mind.
3b) Experiment or crawl through google for homemade lighting modifers, opaque shower curtains are a great source for starter diffusion. I've used baking paper over LED panels before and black bedsheets to block and cut light, stop bounce etc.
    4) Tripod - you can get them dirt cheaper for talking head stuff. Zomei do cheap ones with a cast metal ballhead. Very nice for sub $50.
    5) External monitor - you can't use natural light if you can't see changing lighting conditions. Feelworld make solid 5" monitors for low cost.

6:53 Thanks for your work on this, I am shopping settings of this camera for a client. Just a quick note on ISO ranges. Lowering your ISO to the lowest setting is NOT and should not be a rule of thumb. In this case for the a6000 you can get away with it. However there is a reason most cameras have a "Native ISO", meaning a ISO range that is recommended to get the highest quality image and most Dynamic Range possible. Most cameras its 800, some 400. So going lower than the Native ISO can actually be a negative thing. Just something to consider for future.

Hey Jason, any tips for recording gym videos with the Sony A6000? In terms of manual settings etc? Can''t really play with lighting in the gym.
I am planning to invest in a Sigma 16mm soon.

Also I really only put out quick videos on Insta/TikTok, should I just stick with Standard profile?

I suggest create your own profile. I use flat and do small amounts of color grading in post. I suggest start with basics then try get some lighting. Makes a big difference

The A6000 can only shoot at 1080 . And your video is in 4k. How is this possible? The light on the background is beautiful, the shape of your body is perfect. But the shape of the face is slightly disfigured by the light of the softbox. Try using matting wipes before the video to reduce the effect of glare on the face

Great video. Just wondering how the video is in 1440p when the A6000 shoots in 1080. Thanks!

I upscale the video into a 4k timeline. I recommend this for any online posting. Compression will damage a 1080p video unfortunately

Thanks a lot for all the information. Now I realized that I have done a mistake. I've got a camera without 3.5 mil audio jack for audio recording, Sony A6000. And if I record on my smartphone with lav mic, how can I synchronize the audio and video together to be a good quality? Thanks in advance! All that concerning video lessons.

sony has a proprietary mic that can be connected to the top of the a6000 like the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone. Otherwise, any video editing software can sync audio from your smartphone with the audio on your Sony a6000..

Good video but if a beginner watches this they may be confused. 320 is not thirty two hundred but three hundred and twenty. Sorry to be pedantic but better to be correct.
