  • A redo of Frankenstein PC: A computer made from scrap laptop parts which I turned into a sort off desktop. Time to do it again, better, but still DIY.

      Really? My soldering is kinda crap on the SATA extensions.

      I've recently soldered a cable on my laptop's motherboard that draws 12V power directly from the battery in order to attach a fan underneath the laptop. You certainly don't want to see how terribly I've soldered it...

    @StefanBlurr Před 6 lety +12

    You can find Sata extensions on ebay (But they are in only one color, no gay extensions sadly, haha). Nice work, can't wait to see the case itself!

    How do you wired up power button ?

    Working on my own frankenlaptop build, not getting as involved with the rewiring as I’m completely inexperienced.
    But I’m running into an issue that involves using a 12v fan (maybe 2) to cool both the CPU and the HD3000 chip. I just don’t know how to power it, especially considering the existing blower fan needs to be plugged in still to the 5v connector.
    Any ideas?

    • @hennochoi
      @hennochoi Před 5 lety

      you can do the same thing in this video but instead of 9v dc-dc buck converter you have to use a 12v one they are quite easy to get but remember to put a diode across the coil of the relè (with the side with the white/gray band connected to the 5v and the other side connected to ground)

    • @hennochoi
      @hennochoi Před 5 lety

      there is a better way to control the fans using the pc fan pwm signal instead of the relè but you will need a fan hub

    • @wtwt3619
      @wtwt3619 Před 5 lety

      Ok so I found a fan hub powered by SATA. Let me run this by you if that's ok.
      1. Move 300gb 7200rpm HDD from SATA slot to mSata slot
      2. Connect Fan Hub to SATA slot, connect AMD heatsink and fan to hub, run constantly
      3. Without disconnecting existing 5v blower fan, use for airflow.
      With the 12v fan and full sized heatsink it really shouldn't be an issue if I keep the existing 5v blower connected right?

    • @hennochoi
      @hennochoi Před 5 lety

      you can't connect a 12v fan hub to a laptop sata since they usually don't have 12v but if you plan to run costantly(so no pwm signal from the cpu fan) you can just do like in this video but using a 12v dc-dc converter

    • @hennochoi
      @hennochoi Před 5 lety

      you can keep the 5v blower connected as long it's airflow doesn't oppose the airflow of the other fan

      No ps4 and xbox one are using APU´s (accelerated processing unit ) it´s cpu + gpu in one die (chip) , so it can´t be used . You would have huge problems - apu pinout , chipset ect .

      No it is not possible, but you can put a desktop gpu into a laptop via "exp gdc beast" which uses your laptop's mini pcie slot, or ngff slot for newer laptops.

    im not gonna hate on the gay ribbon cable ....im gona hate on the relay ..... a relay contains a coil that generate magnetic field to attract the magnetized latch and close the circuit and what happens when a coil is energized and you cut the power ?? .......yep it dumps alot of energy back ....so every time you turn off your computer the coil in the relay dumps his energy in the fan wire ..... unless you want to fry the processor or the chipset ....you need to modify that circuit ....you need a optocoupler in between the relay and the computer fan wire or a diode in between the relay legs (watchout for the direction of the diode)

    • @ej_tech
      @ej_tech  Před 6 lety +2

      What type of diode should I use?
      Edit: Found that I need a freewheeling diode.
