    This is the best thing coach T has taught me. Still working on getting from 450’ to 550’, but this makes those 300-400’ shots so much easier

      @@Balanceiskey-nd6el no, I talked to him about 7 months ago. This is part of the magic position. I’m still working on it and I have a long way to go, but I was at a wall at 375-400’. Spending ~8 hours over discord video chat with him and about 30 hours doing the drills in his course gave me the understanding to continue my personal training. The overarching idea is that power comes from athletic rotation of the core

      The side by side comparison debunks his point. Watch Ezra's back foot, there's no weight on it during the rotation. He's definitely not 'driving it in'.

    This is some of the best info I've learned in the last year. My back leg especially my knee has constantly hurt until I figured out hip engagement from this video. For me this is a two-for-one my back leg now feels much better and I gained 50 ft. Thank you Coach T

    Dude that looks like a Straton i've played disc golf tournaments with in the So Cal area LOL. I just played along side him at a tournament in Los Angeles if that is the Straton in this video. And he had a very similar looking dog with him as well! By the way he can definitely drive the disc!

    It's a little known fact that a funky baseline is absolutely essential for hip engagement. That and a more diagonal approach preceding the reach back and x step. 💛

    I always struggle with the idea passive trail leg vs active. No matter hips need to be activated however i wonder if its match up based.
    Example: Eagle with a slow run up most likely is firing the trail leg. While shoulders are closed to target.
    Example 2: Calvin’s leg doesnt seem active but stacks weight on the trail leg and “falls” with it. The Ground force of lead plant finishes the job and snaps hips around. while shoulders stay closed as well.
    Possibly two ways of having the same intended outcome. Thoughts?

      Your right, it's the push down of the front leg that snaps the hips. I have no problems with coach T but this back leg thing is non sense. If it's true, where are the pros backing him up. He has a huge channel with a huge following, why aren't pros backing him. He's doing the "squishing the bug" techniques that are very dangerous for your knees. If you wanna keep your.kneess stay away from this method.

      @@ciromassa7322 idk if i feel one is right or not. I just feel it isnt absolute. Space for the disc to travel through is paramount. Ground force i think is up for grabs. In DG we have the luxury of a run up to aid in creating ground force. Raising the question of “do you need an active trail leg”. Force plates (like we have in golf) to measure vertical, linear and rotational force would put the discussion to bed but you’re need a whole tee pad full of them lol quite expensive haha

      ​@@ciromassa7322It's not "squishing the bug" leave it up to OT to try and coach on something he doesn't know.
      You're pushing off the ball of the foot, that pushes the knee in and rotates your hips into your brace as baseball hitters do.
      But don't let me tell you you're wrong there's dozens of baseball mechanic videos that shows the difference between what's shown here and "squish the bug".

    My favorite shakira song is HIPS dont LIE. My friend justin crum told me about it . He is a huge shakira fan. In fact he’s been going to see her live soon. Im going to likely go with him and bring one of those foldout signs that says “i love you Shakira, will you marry me?”

    What about the front-leg and all the muscles there? Can't you get the same engagement and power from the front leg instead - e.g. by de-weighting the back leg and pushing up/back with the front leg and all the strong muscles there?

      Whenever I do front leg I lose at least 100 ft plus it’s a lot harder on my front knee.

      How are you planning to use the muscles in the front leg and brace on it at the same time?
      People listen to other channels that don't even understand what's happening here and are just wrong.
      You're simply pushing off your back into your front brace. It's that simple.

    After watching your video, I loved the idea, to engage the left leg in this way.
    So I watched dozens of other slow motion drives of paul, simon, eagle and others. I can see their massive inward-movement of the left leg, but I also see, that there is nearly no pressure between their left foot and the floor. It looks like their left foot leaves the floor without any effort. The best example is calvin (watch this: czcams.com/video/q5nvKshqayk/video.html). His foot starts sliding over the floor before it turns inside. In other words, his foot and leg lose contact to the floor before he could engage them in the way, you claim the pros would do. He does exactly the "de-weighting" what you recommend not to do.
    Now I have got the feeling, the way you teach the engagement of the left foot and the hips is not really the way pros do this. But maybe I am wrong. Anyway I am a bit confused now. Perhaps you can explain to me, where I might have an error in reasoning with this.

      In my opinion you don't need weight on the back foot to do this. The weight shift and the internal rotation are (more or less) separate, wieght shift first, then the rest. The internal rotation of the hip comes from the hip, and surrounding muscle chains, not from the ground. But it will seem like it in a standstill demonstration because some weight on the back foot is needed to not fall over. In a throw with run up, the intertia from the run up coupled with the brace will "suspend" much of the weight in the air so that there is little to no weight on the back leg when the left hip action starts. Obviously, the slower the run up (or less agressive the weight transfer) the more weight will still be on the back leg. Having a bit more might help with balance, and subsequently accuracy,. In my opinion this is one of the reasons its more difficult to get power from the standstill, as the left (or trailing) side cant move as freely with weight on it. I think this clip of Wiggins shows pretty well that the left hip mainly starts moving forcefully once the weight is off the back leg. czcams.com/video/4fQ2qJX1A9g/video.html

      You are correct, the technique taught here is wrong. There is no 'driving in' of the back foot; the back foot is unweighted during the rotation as you have already noticed.

      That's cuz Calvin keeps his weight forward while running up so his foot be slipping when he tries to push off it... instead of keeping weight towards the back like, Eagle, Gibson, McBeth, Simon, etc.
      He also does shit everyone says you shouldn't do, like having his back facing the target while running up, or dropping his elbow, or not getting full extension, or reaching behind around his body instead of out.
      Believe it or not, Calvin's form is sloppy as fuck 😂. Sheer athletic ability and a lanky frame can hide so much.
      Feel free to copy what he does tho lol.

    One of my struggles is I started disc golf on tee pads that are really hard not to slip on and fall off, so subconsciously I am worried about where my back foot is going to land after the shot

      Forget the back leg and thank me later. pros throw from the front leg, the back leg is weightless and theyr not pushing off it, they push their front leng into the ground and right hip back.

    I have a question just looked at my form and I get my leg in like u said at the power pocket but I still can’t throw 400 what is the problem

      Are you getting that rotation _before_ the power pocket though? You're probably doing the motion, just doing it late, and it's probably passive instead of active.
      I'm the same way. When I watch my form it looks textbook, but it's _very_ small timing windows that make the difference. I'm throwing with my arm and my follow through drags my hips around instead of the opposite. Actually I'm kind of in the middle where I'm actively rotating, but a beat late, which is enough to cause most of that energy to not be transferred into the disc.

      I'm still very much working on things as this is a very complicated movement for a never athlete lol.
      But something I've been using as a good check to tell me where I need to go is to slowly get into a full coil at a stand still and just feel out your balance and what it feels like for all the muscles to be engaged. That's something taught in weight lifting to learn exercise movements and muscle recruitment.
      I know my fully loaded coil should feel a lot of tension in my left leg running up from my calf, to my quads, hamstrings and glutes, then tension in my obliques and my shoulder should be pushed forward feeling a stretch from my upper back all the way down my lats. It just feels like I have a coiled spring wrapped around from my left foot to my right shoulder.
      And I know when I release, I should feel activation from my left leg pushing the hip rotation, the right hamstring and glutes should be pulling hip rotation, and the obliques are like the afterburners kicking in further increasing rotation. My shoulders and arms shouldn't feel anything, as that's supposed to be noodle loose taking advantage of rubber band effect.
      So.. that tells me what the end product should feel like and if my movement with an x step on the T Pad doesn't feel like that, then I can figure out what's not working. And sometimes it's just gonna get better over time as balance and strength improves to help activate those positions.

    Mcbeth is not throwing from the back leg... he throws from the front leg. i watched your videos alot and learned to throw the wrong way, now its been really hard to get this bs from my muscle memory but i throw much farther now when i realised how wrong this backleg bs is. been a really long journey to fix after learning the wrong way.

    "most people dont even use their hips" dude i thought i was but i recently found out i couldnt even move my hips like somone who hasnt sat at a PC for 15 years. my hips, core, and back "chain" is broken. And im build like a greek god. Alot of people have crooked backs and locked hips. you have to increase your hip mobility to be able to use it

    Love your videos. Love that you approach the game from an athletic perspective. I'm a subscriber as well. However, I have to disagree with the rear hip internal rotation emphasis. This is the old "squash the bug" fallacy use in youth baseball. Internally rotation of the back hip can be achieved without any other rotation of the body. The upper body gets no power from the rear hip if isolated.
    The frame of Ezra clearly showed that the rear hip isn't actually internaly rotated because it is synchronized with the rotational axis of the spine. In fact, it is the front hip that internaly rotates as it is locked into a brace while the rest of the body rotares around it.

    Are poeple just teaching from the hit to the reach back VS from the coil to the "hit", and that's why we unathletic people are so confused?. I remember you were big on the "snap" with a loose arm at first which gave me the lightbulb moment. now with the back vs front leg, rotation vs weight transfer meme going around I'm a bit confused again. Somehow I'm still throwing further and further as I'm learning what to decipher as proper information, and then not use it.

    Good video. I have to be honest for anyone who may be discouraged watching this video. If you are a beginner like myself please don't overthink disc golf this much. If you want to throw far, take your time. These tips don't account for people who may have disabilities like knee problems, hit problems or back problems. I love the content but I don't think anyone should feel like they can't achieve success in disc golf because they aren't throwing like this. If you want to throw far just to throw far then this video is great for you. If you want to win tournaments or play well then go out and do your best. I don't throw far tee shots and my form isn't great but it works for me. I focus on great upshots and try and polish my putting. I have beaten plenty of guys who can throw 400+. Focus on decent to good tee shots but your upshots and putting is where it's at. That is nothing to take away from this video. This is one of the first channels I started watching since starting 6 months ago but a lot of it can be a bit much and pretty discouraging when you feel like you can't get into some of those positions. I have been an athlete my entire life but after surgeries and injuries from sports and the military, my both just can comfortably get in these positions without causing pain or discomfort. Doesn't make the advice wrong, it just makes it not for everyone. I strongly believe what he is teaching is good but if you don't do it, I still believe you will be successful at disc golf and can still potentially reach pro level.

My channel I just started is more based on beginner standpoint and what’s it like to learn and grow as a beginner. A lot of my content will touch on touchy subjects or address things people are kind of afraid to say or things people don’t cover when it comes to disc golf. Like how everyone’s choice of disc or form may not work for you at all. I like to tell people my slogan which is “if you’re new to disc golf, pick up a disc, don’t stress and just throw it”. That also means for them to not overthink in the beginning and make sure you are enjoying it and loving it first, then take time to start learning and developing depending on your end goals. By no means did I make my conflict to spark controversy or conflict. Just sharing a different perspective

    This is just bs, pros throw from the front leg, not the back leg, the back leg needs to be weightless, when you trying to prove a point in not engaging the back leg, you just throw without a brace and thats why it lacks power. For beginners, dont try to do what this guy does, just reach out , put all your weight into your front leg, pull your right hip back and throw., everything is in the BRACE not the back leg.

    6:15 There's not a single pro that 'drives in' with the back leg the way you're trying to teach. Ezra doesn't even do that in the clip you use as an example. When the hips rotate, the back foot is bearing no weight at all to the point of just barely being in contact with the ground, just closely watch videos of pros driving to see this. The rotation of the hips is coming from the momentum of the body transferring through the hip bracing against the front leg.

      The drive happened when the foot was still on the ground. Your looking at what happened after the drive thinking that's the actual drive lol.
      If you've ever done something like a deadlift you'd know this. I can have 3 plates on the ground and be pressing like hell with my legs not moving the weight, the slo mo will look like I'm just standing still and my legs are doing fk all. But in reality a ton of power is being sent to the ground till it hits enough to actually move the weight.
      By the time the weight reaches my knees, my leg drive is already tapering off and the glutes, back and core are taking over, but looking at slo mo you'd think my legs are still doing all the work

    False. Do not do this. The pros do not drive off the back leg. Please stop teaching people this. All the weight should be on the plant foot when throwing. This guys is spreading false info that is hurting people’s form and joints.

      That’s funny, I hurt myself repeatedly and could barely walk at times by putting all my weight on my plant foot. 2 years of driving off my back leg and no pain just more distance.

      @@TimTimsTim I was 900 rated and stuck at 350 when I was working with Josh. Since I started working with coach T I’ve broken 500 and I’m still adding distance. I’ve also posted several 1050+ rated rounds and a course record in a major city but we still workin. 💪
