  • We continue the adventure by cruising our Hatteras Motor Yacht down the ICW and out into the ocean. We run into some difficult docking situations but make our way to Saint Augustine. Just a few more stops before we cross to the Bahamas.

    Hello Ed and Lyn. My name is Richard Gwinn. I am a totally blind person since I was 12 years old. I worked with my grandpa who owned a heavyduty shop in WV. I learned a bunch from him about Diesel engines and fuel systems. They all are very touchy about any air mixing in the fuel, it turns the fuel in to foam, you can not pump foam. I also owned a boat which my daughter enjoyed for a long time until she grew up then she got married and now has two children, who I am totally taken with. I sure did love boating a bunch and my daughter was a real good boat handler as well. We kept our boat a pear seven in Anap, MD. I sold the boat since I had no one to help me with her. My wife does not like boats at all so I had to sell out. I am certified on cat engines but am familiar with the Detroit’s and Cummins as well. If you don’t mind I will make a suggestion for your engine stalling problem. Any filter housing that has damage of any kind on it just get rid of it. You were saying in one of your vids, one of the filter tops or lids, had a dent on it, no good get rid of it or see if you can get another top for it, and change all o rings a gaskets every year. The problem of dirty fuel is a big problem I think you need a fuel polishing system installed on your boat, will make a big difference. Run both engines on it and your gen sets as well, will take a lot of stress out of your life. Check the captions blog and you will find some info on fuel polishing systems, there is one call Alfa leval which is a centrifugal system which spins the fuel and all trash and water goes to the outside and then the fuel is sucked out and you send the clean fuel to the tank you choose. Good luck captain,may you have smooth seas and a fair wind for all your trips. By the way, that wife of yours is a keeper, wish my wife had some of her qualities, Fran is the love of my life as well, she just does not like boating or doesn’t like being around the water. Definitely a dry lander. By the way my boat was a 48 Viking sport fish, she had 3406 cat Terri charged diesels. She as very powerful and fairly fast, 30 knots full out. I got a good price for my boat but I sure was sad he day she was taken away. I put a lot of work and money into the boat, but it made a better man of me. My daughter and I got to know each other a lot better working on and running the boat. We never was so bold as to take the long distance trips that you and your wife takes. We stayed in the Chesapeake bay some times we we ventured out a little more but never did make it of FL. I really enjoy your vids they are great. Please keep them going as much as you can. I look forward to your vids every day. I would like to have a drink with you and yours some day, I would enjoy a nice long conversation. Conversation is the only thing I am good for now days, but I do have a lot of experience with diesels and some boat handling.I am fairly good with the lines as well Lyn, maybe you could teach me a thing or two, I am always open to learn something new. Roger Out!!!!

    New subscriber here. I really enjoy your videos. I'm not a boater, but I'm a serious wanna-be. What I find most useful about your videos is how you detail things that went wrong, both your fault and things that just happen, and the costs of these things. It really helps me get an idea of what it would really be like to own and operate a boat. Thanks a lot. Always looking forward to the next video.

    Love watching you guys on your expeditions. I really appreciate the time you take to explain what you are doing and why. I had no idea what was required when entering another island country such as the quarantine, flag requirements, and associated fees. Even enjoy hearing you communicate with the marinas and harbor masters. I hope I can learn/remember the lingo if I ever get the opportunity to travel like you guys. Stay safe keep posting videos. Thanks.

    Nice maneuver, I saw your boat when I got fuel at KW Bite.
    On the captain’s test, we would have done it in reverse. We would have locked down the #2 cleat and put the starboard engine in reverse, to keep the bow into the wind. However, we do not have thrusters on the exam.

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  Před 3 lety +1

      The current was coming towards the bow and I did not think I could get the stern off the dock. By going bow first I was hoping the current would help swing the bow out.

    • @zapalskic
      @zapalskic Před 3 lety +1

      Not criticizing, but in a freighter if I loose the bow, I could kill someone. We have 10 times more control of the stern.

    ALWAYS BACK OUT, all of your boats control is in the stern, rudders and power. If you go out bow first, the stern will try to go into the dock as you rotate. Even stated your current and wind on the outboard side. Backing out allows more control.
