@@dennis3224 both. It's very rare that "reality" TV is actual reality. I spent some time looking it up recently. But Ken made valid points about how they couldn't possibly have not known what was going on, with them having to sign documents and stuff. Plus, some of them are terrible actors. It just reeks of fake all around.

For someone who grew up where both english and spanish are spoken a lot, I was taught to speak the language that everyone can understand just to be respectful. But the way they approached to ask to speak the known language from the whole group was EXREMELY rude. But in the end, they are allowed to speak whatever language they want to speak.
Me too. In my case english and german. I used to live on Zanzibar and visiting only knowing english but no swahili (both languages are the Islands main languages, sadly nobody very close to me spoke swahili or taught it) so I can totally get how you'd feel self conscious and left out. Still by no means a reason to act out like that. Sure everyone can speak their native tongue with other people who know the language. I would only ask for talking in the language the group understands when socializing. And I mean just ask nicely without a fuss. Same case but tables turned goes for me as well living in Germany now. Like I experienced both sides
I feel like whether it's respectful or not really depends on how private the conversation is... Like there's private conversations in public that aren't reallyy private, like where you have two conversations going in a group or something like that and it's expected that others in the group will want to switch gears and join in or add to your conversation... And then there's genuine A-B conversations like what they were having where they're literally the only people in the group and they're having a conversation with each other. You know, where most of the time its just straight up weird if you start listening to their conversation from 50 feet away and starting acting like a little bitch because you can't interject in their conversation that you were never a part of and were never MEANT to be a part of. In the latter I don't think anyone should have to feel obligated to speak the language of the people who just so happen to be in the room who aren't even a part of your group and shouldn't even be paying attention to you... That's just some entitled wine-drinking 40-year-old white barbie doll shit.

I knew it was fake from the moment it started, I even suspect there's like one person on the show who is an actress or an aspiring actress because as I noted in a previous episode, her reactions were the only ones that were appropriate and acted well, as if she knew how to fake realistic emotions and nobody else did. But, I can't tell if it being fake makes it worse or better.

I'm swedish but most of my friends are from Serbia and Romania. So to be able to speak to their relatives that don't speak swedish or english i have started learning their language. And my friend can help me translate and correct me when needed. It's honestly amazing learning something new and taking part of another culture.

As someone who speaks a fee different languages and lives in Canada where there are many different languages spoken,I can understand both ends of the argument here. I think that if you're in a big group of people,you shouldn't feel bad about speaking your language cause why would anyone be excluded? They are speaking between themselves. I had a situation where I was hanging out with 2 friends who spoke the same language and they kept speaking in it for like 40 min that I was with them,that is being excluded. I always speak my native tongue with my mom while in public cause that's what's most natural and comfortable for us,It doesn't always mean someone is gossiping about you.

the language thing depends on context... if you're having a private conversation then, fine... but the way this entire scene is set up, and that they were at a party, implies that the spanish speaking ladies were bad mouthing the others and intentionally distancing themselves... I have chinese family but i myself can't speak mandarin... they'll intentionally use mandarin when im around to bad mouth my lack of understanding and claim im just nosey when i get upset (I can understand some key words) so this situation reminded me of that.

So if you've ever seen them looking for casting for these shows they don't tell you that. Ive seen some casting calls before they pretend they aren't with TLC and will advertise "looking for a dating show for the whole family to find love" things like that the casting is really predatory...they don't know what they are signing up for, they sign up for it but there is a good reason we don't see many of the sons or mothers who are just grossed out by the whole premise

Iâm polish living in London UK. I never speak polish when Iâm surrounded by people who donât speak and donât understand it. Itâs just rude. Even if Iâm not talking about anything important, still, I use English to make everyone included and avoid confrontations.
They are in Mexico though, and they were talking among themselves (the people who understand spanish). It'd be rude if they randomly started speaking a different language mid sentence or the one shot where the orange lady was awkwardly in the middle of them.
Overall they weren't being rude, she was speaking to her son and the other women left to speak Spanish away from the others since they were uncomfortable (didn't think that was necessary again they're in Mexico). Plus the loud one got way too aggressive, she was clearly mad they were speaking Spanish in general. She wasn't even near them when they were speaking.
Not every person needs to be involved in every conversation. Danish is my native language, sometimes I speak it in public, if others have a problem, they can cry.
I don't like people speaking another language in a group of people hanging out because I think it's rude BUT that is if its a small group that are all hanging out so it leaves one person out kinda thing. If you're at a party and you are hanging out with another group who cares! I met a German group of friends in Vegas and when we were walking to a club they were all speaking German and one of them even acknowledged it and said oh guys we are being rude speak in english, because I was the only one that couldn't join the conversation. I feel like it's common social skills when it would be considered rude and when it isn't rude...

In a group conversation with people who donât speak Spanish, donât speak Spanish. As a monolingual person with bilingual parents and bilingual extended family, it really is peeving when someone makes a comment that only some people in the conversation can understand. Itâs one thing if youâre not actively conversing with people who donât speak your language, but when youâre clearly in a group w/ people who canât understand a certain language, it is rude. Just like it would be rude to whisper to someone next to you during a group conversation.
Saw a commercial for this show yesterday and prayed for your souls.
