- The legions of the dead are on the march, mindlessly shuffling closer! Join me as I paint some 3d printed 10mm skeleton light infantry, sculpted by Forest Dragon. Requiring only 7-8 paints, these are a must have for small scale fantasy wargaming.

Aly's Brown Liquid

Awesome. I just finished my small Vampire Counts from Forest Dragon. Black Coach, Lords, Grave Guards and dire wolves. Really enjoyed painting them . Skellies will be next
Those are gorgeous sculpts and you've done them serious justice with the painting. The Aly of the brown liquid is GW sculptor Aly Morrison and designed plenty of the old undead ranges these minis pay homage too. Coming full circle!
I did not know that Aly was affiliated with GW. That makes my wash choice more than appropriate.
Love these. The basing reminds me of WW1 mud. I wonder if a tuft could be chopped into 6ths and placed around. Thanks for sharing!
These look great. Thank you for sharing your technique. Pleased to hear that you're using them for Fantastic Battles, too. I have some Wood- and Dark-Elves coming for that as well, although I was thinking I'll stick with 40x20 bases so I can use them for other games too. You're making me rethink that though.
I thought about basing them on 40x20mm bases, for versatility. Eventually I decided I just like them more on 40mm squares.
Really good, thanks
I am printing these up but for 15mm . To match the minis I have, mostly battle valor and demonworld, I am printing the mounted Forest Dragon Miniatures at 140 percent and any foot soldiers at 165 percent to get a viable match. Depending on your likes, some miniatures I am printing up for 15mm from other sources I may make the miniatures a little wider in the x and y direction for what ever height I like them to be
on the Forest Dragon stl, I only wish he did the weapons not quite so huge.
Great tutorial, thankyou
Just a little clarification, warmaster basing is two strips on 40x20mm base that is called a stand. A unit is made up of one or more stands. Typically infantry units are 3 stands to make a unit
Can’t wait to see the Bretonians.
I really enjoyed this video, new subscriber 👍👍
Followup; your video put a worm in my ear and I ended up signing up for Forest Dragon's Patron, and I bought up all the Despoilers army so far. Really looking forward to any more fantasy painting you do. I'm looking at these Despoiler Chariots and sweating so if you decide to paint any of these guys, I wouldn't be offended at all lol.
Thanks again for all you do!
Glad you liked the video and the miniatures! I have the despoilers too, but haven't printed any yet. I'm probably getting a new printer soon so I'm putting off printing things until I can print at higher quality. Plus my pile of shame is already big enough. I can't promise anything, but I'll try to do a Despoilers video.
The nice thing about 3D prints is the lack of sweating. If you screw it up no biggy it's pennies to print another.
Very nicely done. I know you said you didn't like it but that rusty gold look on the armour I thought was cool!
Was it just a wash or a mix of your own? Ive searched around but couldnt find anything
It was Vallejo Model Color light rust wash. On 28mm figures it can be applied in spots to create rust and patina. On these small figures it just tinted the whole metallic area.
What technique did you use for priming? Brush on primer with a zenithal/grey dry brush?
When can we see more Fantastic Battles content?
What is that handle/paint stand which is being used?
That's the Hobby Holder by Game Envy. I picked it up on a convention a few years ago. I like it more than the GW holder because you attach whatever you want to a plastic soda cap with poster putty and screw the cap on. Easy to switch figures, and has a hand rest to steady againsts.
@@FeldgrauProductions thank you for the response & info.
Great channel your building here
Nice job. Pleas what company make this painting holder in a wideo?
That's a Hobby Holder by Game Envy. Got it at a convention a few years ago and very happy with it.
Have a massive 10mm lotr project I've been working on. What do ppl recommend as a basing method (20×40 bases)? Been doing the pva + sand so far and I've had only some limited success.
Funny enough, I'm also doing a 10mm LotR project (Helm's Deep for now). I'm basing on 40x20 bases because they're versatile, but 40x30 or 40x40 can also look good.
I do have part of a video where I go over my 10mm basing system. It mostly involved premixed grout. You can see it here: czcams.com/video/u7dYZwiiqF8/video.html
great results! have you tried contrast paints on these little ones?
I have not. I don't own many contrast paints, but it's something I want to try in the future.
since you're not doing warmaster, what are you using them for? great vid and paint job btw.
Thank you! I'm actually still looking for "the perfect rules™" but have tried (and liked) Fantastic Battles.
What type of base color did you use? looks like a white over black?
I believe it was a black prime then a white prime as a second coat, but I don't 100% remember.
@@FeldgrauProductions Thanks!
I am also currently painting those skeletons. The sculpts are nice, but they have the same problem that many 3D-printable models have. There are just too many areas that are very hard to reach with a brush without getting paint on other already painted areas. The poses of these skeletons are just too dynamic. In my opinion painting them is a real pain in the butt. I have already invested several hours in batch painting 2 complete units and they look terrible. Maybe I should not have primed them white, but black instead and then just dry brush them with white.
Many people think painting 10-15mm minis is easier and faster than painting heroic scale minis.
Is not. Not at all.
