From a joiner who has veneerd custom work tops,
The warping issue is almost certainly down to glueing a layer to only one side of the board. This is why formica work tops have a " balance " layer, normaly of a cheaper patern on the underside (same goes for real wood veneers). This means any expansion or contraction is equal on both sides of the board. Hope this helps 👍
Thank you!
I think Stargrave/Frostgrave could be pretty great for this! Small skirmish groups, neat terrain... just perfect
Those are going on the list for sure, stargrave with some really varied sci fi terrain would be epic!
I had the exact same thought. This is perfect scale for that.
Pocket Oathmark FTW. (ok, you might need oversized pockets, but not too big.)
Dude, the editing is absolutely impeccable. Bravo!
Dang, that editing is way better than the content 😂😂
Edited
I forgot to mention that the Black background wall is a brilliant idea 😂😂
Wishing a speedy recovery with the finger! Happy to see you are still able to make progress on your other ideas. Love the idea of a portable skirmish setup.
Battletech might be worth a look. Its hex maps are small, and there's a TON of STLs out there for minis.
I've seen hex terrain that can be printed too, modular and interesting, could be worth it for sure!
@@eBayMiniatureRescues If the sheer crunch of regular rules is a bit much for you, like it is for me, there's also Alpha Strike, which is a simplified ruleset that works great for quick skirmish games on the go. It can be played either on a hex map or hexless, and I think would work well in a case you can carry with you.
@@Brodie337 anything simplified gets a better chance at seeing play for me. I don’t get a ton of time to play like I would like, so simple versions and skirmish I can play with people who come over for regular board games. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll look into this!!
After coming back to the video for a 3rd watch, I second alpha strike. You don't have to play with all the special rules if you don't wanna
Oh man, i really hope you do this.
You, Sir, are a delight
So neat!
Prayers for a quick and uncomplicated finger recovery 🙏
para bellum is a company that is doing it right. I enjoy conquest because none of the factions are the same. great game great rules! this is great idea mini conquest.
I am on a similar path. Working on a small scale(dare I say 'Epic")Horus Heresy. Was interested in the game but just did not want to deal with painting regular sized marines. I have been having fun slowly painting up some Adeptus Titanicus models and with the recent purchase of my first 3D printer things have come into focus. Great video as always. Hope that finger heals up soon :)
Thx for the inspiration. I would love to see your take on a Mini Relicblade! Get well soon.😊
Mini relic blade is definitely going on the list :)
Get well soon! Can't wait to see this painted and you well again!
This is awesome. What a great idea. Thank you for the info on the new anycubic. The speed is eyepopping.
And using the scene from UHF! I love it!! Thanks for a fantastic video.
hehe, gotta love UHF, one of my favorites!
There is something so primally N E A T about making travel sets for games. Portable terrain, or battle maps, etc. Ive been making a portable D&D/PF2e kit and Im enjoying it greatly.
It does feel pretty neat to just pull out and set up. D&D makes so much sense for something like this too. Getting a good visual representation down for everyone to see. And the amount of work at such a small scale makes it at least easier to get finished before a session.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Ive been wanting to set up a bunch of pre made chracter sheets so I can walk up to people in conventions and just start running a game.
@@lastwymsi that sounds perfect
Aw hell yes, love epic-scale stuff!!
OMG mini kill team would be epic. You don't even need to convert the rules, just print a half sized measuring stick.
Printing out an in scale measuring stick is exactly how I do it. No changing numbers or trying to convert anything, the measuring stick just works with the profiles right out of the book :)
*Another* new 3d printer?!
You're gonna have to print a new house to fit them all in!
Also, show us the finger.....
Lol, the finger is pretty bad, I think it would fall under some sort of violation to show it.
At this point I have 4 printers at my house and they do take up some serious shelf space. Before I moved into my new office space I had them in walk in shower on a shelf. It was pretty hilarious to see, although the shower was non usable at that point. Now I at least have a space for them…for now.
Great vid again, hope your wound heals soon as iv had many myself working in the scrap game and foundries and their a pain when it stops hobby time.
hope you hand feels better soon. I look forward to you doing some battetech stuff.
I also love 15mm scale!
Gotta say, your taste in music is excellent sir. Love all the shirts
I do love a good band tee :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues haha it's my entire wardrobe at this point 🤣
Loving the 15mm love here... Please keep it up.
I have ALWAYS wanted to do more skirmish/micro battle gaming. Love all your content!
hope you heal fast pal. great video
Thanks man :)
This is amazing! You need to do it for Bloodbowl! Portable, better sized for the dining room table and a game that is super accessible to everyone… actually scratch that… I might try doing this for bloodbowl… ignore me😅
Bloodbowl would be perfect
Hey Man! Furniture builder here, if you put glue or paint on one side of a thin-ish substrate you should do something similar to the otherside. The heat and moisture in the air won't penatrate the plywood of the glued side and will penatrate the not glued side. Plus glue can 'tighten' up slightly. So it's pulling, and sealing. Which causes cupping. Paint or thin layer of slightly watered down glue on the otherside will help with the cupping.
Hope this helps!
Great advice, thank you!
Will definetely consider mini Conquest once my Mk5S arrives in July!!
Hoop it heals good mate good luck !
Ok, that is cool! Great video.
Love these pockethammer videos :)
Would love to see Pocket-MESBG :)
Blood Bowl may be an idea at this scale
get well man!
Can I just say your filming and editing skills are amazing 🙌
Much appreciated :)
For skirmish games I always recommend Space Weirdos or Sword Weirdos. A rules-lite game that would suit small scale well
Just looked these up, they sound really cool. Thanks for the heads up!
I've been hearing about this game rather a bit, and Stephanie at @OrionsBeltMinis has done some pretty outstanding videos painting the minis from it as well. If ever I get a printer, this could be something I could invest in a bit, if only to have the experience of painting minis this tiny.
Stephanie does a great job on those conquest minis! Even if you don't have a printer, there are stores that sell prints, mostly on etsy and ebay. Forest Dragon is all small scale already and full armies are like $50 printed and shipped, but of course, having a printer gets you much farther.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues That she does, and I'd forgotten about the shop option. I get a lot of stuff on the Bay of E, from sellers licensed to print various shops' minis, if I'm honest.
@@MaskedRiderChris nothin wrong with that! That’s what I would do for sure
ArcWorlde or DGS Freeblades would be great at that size. Warp Miniatures makes a few 10mm ArcWorlde sets
ArcWorlde looks pretty cool, really unique aesthetic and free core rules. I also appreciate it when they make smaller scale minis, much easier than printing them out lol. I just bought some Freeblades at Adepticon this year, and I played a pretty lengthy demo, that could be fun in a small scale for sure.
why not Blood Bowl? it doesn't even need to be shrunk down. I would love to see your take on one of these cases that flips open to reveal Blood Bowl stadium. ♥
I definitely intend to make a sweet blood bowl set, I have several teams in the wings :)
hope you and your finger get well soon!
Very cool!
Maybe you still wouldn't be able to do this with the finger all jacked up but it would be kind of funny to see you try and train/use your non dominant hand. Just as a fun challenge. I hope you heal up well and quickly!
If it doesn’t get better soon I’m gonna have to do something like that, and it would be hilarious to watch lol.
This is giving me ideas.
Dangerous ideas....
Cool video and great concept. I definitely need to check Conquest out. I've also been thinking about making 10-15mm stuff for DnD 5e, so maybe this will give me a kick in the pants.
This is how I would do dnd if I played. I haven’t for a long time.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues There's some cool TTRPGs out there besides DnD. Let me know if you'd like some suggestions. :)
Great video, Casey! Get well soon! And wait... you cut the finger ON a model??? I hope you share some details on Paint Bravely!
Thanks! Yeah I cut it on a model, some dirty spiky piece...super dumb. The last episode of Paint Bravely I definitely talk about it :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Oh nice! I haven't downloaded the latest yet, but will tomorrow to listen to at work. Hopefully it wasn't a nurgle model!
It's nice to see First Blood in your channel. Hopes to see more!
I'm always looking for a good reason to include Conquest minis on the channel :)
That's epic case
So cool! I love para bellum models and have a small amount of dweghom. Ive been wanting to do this for Warmaster cause i love some of the old school vibes you can find for the models, and i can usually buy physical since i dont have a 3d printer.
This is also such a good eay to get new people into the game, if you have everything done up like a normal board game
There are a ton of 15mm minis out there that you can buy, of course printing gives you the options, but it's not necessary for sure. The small scale board game feel does help people get into it easier. I've been able to just take it out and show someone how to play really quickly, they don't feel overwhelmed and it really helps sell the idea!
@eBayMiniatureRescues great to know! When i have the means ill definitely try to do this
I think kings of war works really really well at 10mm. The thing with skirmish games is that they are already pretty easy to paint with few models, easy to transport, and played on a relatively small area. Which games like kings of war, those things really make a big difference by scaling down, suddenly everything is made so easy in 10mm, while loosing nothing of the strengths of the normal sized game.
I've just got into Bushido a skirmish game played on a 2x2 board 👍
I’ve seen that game up close at some cons, looks pretty sweet.
Blood bowl would be perfect for a travel box
I would love to tackle Bloodbowl!! Puns aside, it's definitely on the list!
Comment for the Skull Throne
Not gonna lie 8:28 a Metallica-esque riff kicks in, think to myself "I gotta put on some Metallica!", then 5 seconds later you're rocking a Master of Puppets shirt.
haha, perfect :)
We got it all on UHF!
Can't wait for my next trip to Spatula City!
Mordheim!
Well Heroquest is the GREATEST BOARD GAME EVER made, or so I've heard, so why not a travel version of that?
The bard did make a good point about hero quest, it’s going on the list for sure :)
I plan to make this kind of thing, smaller than 15mm, more like 10 or 6mm, for AOS, Saga, Bolt Action, LOTR or Starwars legion , maybe using 1 to 3 bases for a unit. Or use generic historic or SF rules designed for big armies games at small scale and print 10 or 6mm starwars or LOTR.
it saddens me that you didn't even one set talk about Argatoria, which is basically the 10mm standard right now.. and it's getting bigger and bigger
Never heard of it! But for sure I'll be looking into it now, thanks for the heads up!
game has 6 factions and about 80 extra units, with about one unit per week coming out :D Potential Old world Killer... not joking
@@miniaturepainting nice, sounds like it’s growing and that’s a good sign for longevity
Awesome! As I said before. Star wars legion would be awesome to see
It's high up on the list for sure!
What about Deadzone might be a cool idea for this type of travel box. Also, not sure how it would work but I would love to see a micro Blood and Plunder (Ships and Pirates).
Might I suggest some learning to paint with your off hand? Might make for an interesting comparison and video. Also, good to learn a new skill. Or useful or helpful for among with a more serious injury and what they can do.
I might have to anyways if this keeps up. I’m not gonna be fully healed for a while, so different ideas and techniques will have to be part of at least the next few videos :)
👍
have you heard of quar? its really cool looking imo
Love the travel box builds. I know people who haven't gotten into TTRPGs because they don't have the space or time or terrain. I can turn up with this and play immediately!
Any links to the art supply box you used?
I really enjoy just being able to get it out and unleash it on unsuspecting people who thought Monopoly was the only board game :)
here's the link for the box, I'll add it to the description as well, thanks for the heads up!

Excuse the off topic question, but where is the logo on the button(?) On your apron from? The one you also got tattooed? I have the feeling I know it from somewhere but can't place it right now.
It's the logo of a band I was in for almost 20 years. Sadly we haven't been active since Covid, but that's life I suppose. The band is called Authmentis :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Thanks, I can't remember having heard of them but I will give it a listen. Always glad to find new music. Apparently it just seemed familiar :D
Are Conquest: First Blood models hard plastic or resin?
Most of them are made from the same hard plastic that companies like GW use, very high quality. They also make some of the cooler centerpiece models out of resin, or at least give you the option. It’s nice because the resin casting they do is also on the higher quality end, so you end up with some really good looking models.
Could you do something similar with board games. Such as Space Crusade, Star Saga, Dungeon Saga etc.. Make a more travel friendly version.
I will be going 15mm for Stargrave, This Is Not A Test, Five Parsecs From Home and One Page Rules. I really need to go through my unprinted digital pile of shame.
I still haven't received my M5s!
I hope it gets to you soon! When it does it will be worth the wait :)
Grate video and idea! I lokked and klikked all your links but coud not find a link to the box/table? I am Norwegian and looking for the right term to find somthing simular... manby some mesurments of the case?
I'm not sure if this will ship over, but at least you can see it if you need to look for an alternative. This was the best one I could find in the US at least.
www.hobbylobby.com/Art-Supplies/Storage-Organization/Storage/Artist%C2%A0Supply-Box/p/81011351
I tried the link from your other video 😎 it is blocked by region I think 😥
@@piddiification :( that’s not good. Do you have a vpn? You could change regions to somewhere in the US, at least to look at it.
No sorry. But thanks for trying and the quick answer. I really like your videos. Hope the finger thing is not serious and that you get well soon . Please keep doing your thing. And filming it so we can partake if we are lucky.
Vell wishes for "up north".
This is incredible, but not many people can afford a 3d printer TwT
To be honest, 3D printers aren't that expensive anymore. You can get them for €200 or less. If you compare this to buying 3D mini's from GW, it is about the same price as buying two vanguard boxes. In other words, in the mid to long-term it is actually very affordable.
Even if you can't, there are etsy and ebay stores that sell prints, even at 15mm :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I can never find a decent/well priced store, guess I need to look harder haha
@@NerdySatyr I’ve found better deals on eBay than on Etsy. But yeah the prices can be high.

I'm just discovering Conquest First Blood thanks to your video. I'm 4 months late to the upload and hope it isn't too late to ask a quick question.
If using 3d printed proxy armies, were do you get the chataater/command cards from and are they really needed? I have loads of great stl files that would fit into First Blood and I'm wondering if the cards are a problem. If the cards are available somewhere, I'll be all set to play.
I print everything at .03 layer level it is the best level for quaity and speed, printing at a lower layer level gives no real benfit and it makes a huge difference over .05. I have never heard of anyone printing above .05 with resin printers :-/
I’ve always printed at .05, and I’ve never had any complaints. This printer giving you the option out of the box for .1 was a weird choice I though, and I did test it on minis, the results are obvious and a smaller layer is definitely better, but where it actually made sense to me was in printing out the terrain. The blocks I did still looked great and printed out in like 20 minutes, so I was able to pump them out and still be happy with the quality. For minis that I would paint and want to display I would definitely print at a higher quality.
@@eBayMiniatureRescues I was talking about for mini figs and vehicles mostly 😁 buildings and other objects like that .05 is a great was to go about it (didn't make it clear my fault) also yeah the .1 was odd that's what most FDM stuff gets printed at these days for stuff like buildings. One thing I would also check the anti aliasing at a 1 or 2 it will help more with any smoothness when printing at .05. like I said I personally go for the .03 as the time it takes over .05 isn't much more but the quality difference is insane and there is no real benefit at printing at thinner layers after that it's the sweet spot in my experience. I pretty much only print minis these days everything from busts, vehicles, little bits like nads for marines and knifes 💪🏻
@@yagsipcc287 yeah for sure! I’m definitely gonna try going with .03 for minis, I’ve gone with .01 and that’s nice, but with my older printers it’s always taken so long it’s almost not worth it. These days the printers are much quicker though so I’ll be giving it a shot again :)
@@eBayMiniatureRescues Sweet!! good luck :-)
Hope you get well soon follow the doctors order if you get extra pain and redness go back to doctor. You're the easiest person to listen to and your non conceited attitude is a break from most streamers keep up the great work.
Dude learn to paint/ink/drybrush with other hand. I mashed my right hand when I was a kid so I had to learn to write etc with my left. Its not as good but ok for simple stuff.
As for another game to do this to...
There is only one..
Mordheim. Build the whole city in that scale..
I tried lol, it didn't go too well, but if this keeps up for much longer I might have to invest some time into getting there. Mordheim is definitely a possibility, I really like the setting.
Loving your videos Casey. Can you do an in depth video about 3D printing soon? Also what printer do you recommend?
Thank you!
I’m always looking for excuses to use 3d printing during my projects, I think the most in depth video I’ve done was probably the pocket Warcry video, which is similar to this one. That video was about getting started, so there’s lots of good info in there. A great starter printer, in my opinion of course, is something like the Anycubic mono 4K. It’s on the smaller side, but very good quality prints, and the printer is pretty inexpensive at around $150. Something in a similar range from elegoo would also be a good place to start. If you are gonna buy a printer I recommend getting it from Amazon, if something is wrong with it then Amazon is the easiest to return and get a new one. Some of these companies can be hard to deal with for that kind of thing.
DBA Ancient wargames.will be ideal for the portable box
nothing from ebay and no rescue
maybe save old models from ebay and make a game for them instead of constantly shilling a brand new 3d printer ever other month and calling it "saving money"
God forbid a channel tries out something different every now and again...
Mate, don't be like that. Most of the videos that he makes are actually about saving bought models. The fact that he now and again makes a video about something else, but still hobby related, is actually awesome.
Anyway just my few cents. If you insist on being sour I cannot really stop you.
Pingo, dude...
