  • This is Part II (Part I was "Teaching the Circle Waltz Mixer". Peter Amidon is leading this traditional dance from the New England Dancing Masters (NEDM) book/CD collection "Sashay the Donut". He is joined by NEDM's Andy Davis, Mary Cay Brass (black top) and Mary Alice Amidon (white top). The Circle Waltz Mixer is our adapted version of "The Family Waltz" with origins in Sweden. We replaced the short partner waltz at the end of each sequence with a two hand turn. The dance can be done to any Waltz (it works best not to double the A and B sections). We are dancing it to "In Continental Mood" by Andy Cutting from the "Sashay the Donut" accompanying CD. "Sashay the Donut" book and CD, and other NEDM collections, can be purchased from the NEDM website - http:www.dancingmasters.com

Wow, these are just beautiful. I am hopefully going to try some of these out in my new music post in September. Thank you for uploading. I'll definitely be buying the music as well.

A teacher comment on Teaching with Orff suggested that, instead of ladies and gents as roles, you could use rocks and posts. Offering a choice after defining the roles, takes out the unnecessary gendering in the dance. Repair the dance like he does at 1:20 just by asking rocks to raise their hand!

Perhaps something more poetic than "rocks and posts"? So many choices!
