    To all who wants to know, because I found many forums that speak about this dance "Circassian Circle"...
    I am a Circassian, Circassians (self designation Adyghe) got an ancient dance from paganic times, which is called "Round dance" in Circassian Удж Хъурай "Wudj Khurai" and from this dance came the European "Circassian Circle" version, probably English travellers who were in Circassia in the 19th century saw it and somehow they brought it to England and from there to other countries...

      Sorry, but you're going into a bit of romantic whimsy (as the naming of the dance was too). This is an English Country Dance, it is related to a number of other Country Dances and was originally a part of a longer dance. The dance in it's present form is really 20th century and does not come from Circassia.

      Ok
      Then why it is called “Circassian Circle” in English?

    • @andrewwigglesworth3030
      @andrewwigglesworth3030 Před 3 lety

      @Andy Napso Why not? In English Country Dance (often called English Ceilidh) we have "Sicilian Circles" that don't come from Sicily. "The Old Swan Galop" wasn't learnt from Old Swans and the dance "Clopton Bridge" is not a bridge ... I could go on and on in the same vein.
      If you look at the names of country dances and their tunes from the 17th right through to the the 21st century then you'll find all kinds of whimsical names used. Use of the word "Circassian" for this circle dance is no evidence whatsoever that it is from Circassia.
      Here's a link with some more information about this particular dance: www.webfeet.org/eceilidh/dances/circassian-circle.html
      The thing that some people seem to be picking up on is that this dance is done in a circle. However, this is very far from being unusual in Country Dance and was one of the ways that these dances developed. English Country Dances started off as dances in long sets, for as many couples as would in long lines. If you take a long set and join up the ends, you get a circle, and this is what happened with some dances. Some also stayed as long sets and others developed with smaller 4, 6 or 8 couple etc. sets.
      As described in to link above, what we now know as "The Circassian Circle" developed from part of a longer dance, often called "The Big Set", and is related to a number of other Country Dances.

      Bridges and Swans are not like saying Sicilian or Circassian circle, maybe you are right, but still calling your own ethnic dance in a name of other ethnic nation is weird...

    • @andrewwigglesworth3030
      @andrewwigglesworth3030 Před 3 lety +1

      @@AndyNapso You might find it "weird", but that's really irrelevant. Seriously, look at folk dances from Circassia, they are not the same or related in form or style to Country Dances.
      I'm not arguing (and never would) for some idea of "purity" of different folk cultures, I'm the one that you'll find arguing against that and any form of ethno-nationalism.
      All cultures dance, and at different historical distances many many different dance cultures are related, however, there is no evidence whatsoever that the Country Dance "Circassion Circle" is derived from the folk dances of Circassia.

    I danced the Circassian Chalk Circle at school in the 60s in England, taught to us then by Poles. We didn't use this music, it was Authentic circassian, so not sure where the irish jig applies.

      You can slow the song (or anything on You Tube) by going to the cog at the bottom of the video and clicking Speed then go to .75 to slow it or choose your speed.
