    Tips on how to dial in your SB3000 Subwoofer! Thanks, Nick!
    * For connection to an AV processor, the phase control should be set to 0 degrees. This is because the AV processor will time-align the subwoofer with the other loudspeaker channels in the system.
    * For a 2-channel system which lacks time alignment, the phase control should be left at 0 degrees if the subwoofer is placed on the same wall as the loudspeakers.
    *For a 2-channel system where the subwoofer is placed on a different wall than the loudspeakers, it’s possible this could put the subwoofer out of phase with the loudspeakers, resulting in phase cancellation and reduced bass performance. In cases like this, the phase control can be adjusted to improve the phasing and reduce phase cancellation between the loudspeakers and the subwoofer over the bandwidth where they are sharing output.
    * While this can be done by ear, it can also be done with empirical data using a measurement system like REW (freeware) and a UMIK-1 microphone (about $75).

    Thanks for the shout out and link Sean. I too find the SB3000 fantastic for music but is not my favorite for home theater. I think it's great that you focus on 2ch because that definitely is not my strong point. I wish I could articulate what my ears hear, which you do very well at. Keep up the great work. Pssss I dare you to crank it up....I just dare you. :)

      @@ZeroFidelity If you're hearing a buzzing noise from the plate amplifier, I'd highly recommend you chat with the famous SVS customer service about it. Odds are they'll have a method of repair/replacement for you, an audible buzz from the amp, especially that loud, is likely something they'll fix under warranty as a hardware defect.

    Great review and spot on. I bought two of these subs to pair with my Wharfedale Denton 85th. Anniversary speakers as my main 2-channel and Home Theatre speakers.
    My, oh my, oh my!!! These babies have brought a realism to my music and Home Theatre that is just amazing. My main interest is 2-Channel music listening and the dual SB-3000 subs put the artists right in the room with me! Now I am relistening to much of my jazz collection and find myself now adding even more to my collection. All genres are fabulous with these subs. The bass is fast, articulate, punchy, and extremely musical. It is also just there, in glorious fullness! No boomy, directional thumping ... just solid articulate and musically powerful bass that revitalizes the bottom end of your music everywhere in the room.
    I love these subs!

    Just received a gloss black SB3000 a couple of days ago and so far I’m very pleased with it paired to Ultra bookshelfs . The app is well integrated and designed. Although I’m brand agnostic, this isn’t my first SVS sub. I have a SB2000 paired with Paradigm Prestige bookshelf speakers in my office. Prior to deciding on the 3000 I agonized for weeks staring at websites from HSU, Rythmik and others. What brought me back to SVS is their customer service, build quality and aesthetics - this sub is beautiful. Having said that I’m getting a nasty 50hz null and probably need to move it out of sight.

    I have owned an SVS sub for my HT for 10 plus years. I love it because it works for music and movies. It will handle a good amount of power and will even handle an accidental dose of a bunch of power for short bursts. While mine isn't this new I would whole heartedly recommend their product.

    I’ve had the smaller SB1000 in my system for about 2 years and it integrates very well with monitor size speakers. It is also fairly easy to place. I have it on my front wall close to the left corner. For my music needs it does a great job, even at loud volumes. I might add a second one one day...

    Thank you for this vid! This is exactly the problem i currently have. I recently purchase 2 Polk Audio S60e and i find the bass is lacking the satisfying "punch". Don't get me wrong, it occasionally reaches down low (especially in movies) but in most music i just wish it made the drums and beats stick out more, you know? Now i'm wondering if i should be returning the speakers and be looking for a complete new set of floorstanding speakers altogether or just "fill the gap" by getting a sealed SVS. What are your thoughts?

    I just set up the sub-3000 with psb t2 speakers, which go pretty low themselves. Set crossover at 50 -10db sound great. First day, so I may tweak.
    I was worried, from your review, that there would be a transformer hum, but there is none on my unit. I’m also using the wireless modules. No drama, they just worked.
    One thing to be aware of...people call this a small sub for what it does. It may well be in sub land, but its actually the size of a small dorm room refrigerator. Bear this in mind when you consider placement. I have it in a back corner, partially obscured by a couch.

    Omg! You called Nick out! He is the SVS guy and he didn’t know what the name stood for? That’s hilarious. I actually knew Ron very well. He had a nice home here in Colorado Springs and had an office downtown. I got to test out all kinds of prototype subs and production subs. Got to take subs right out of his own home theater room. Really nice guy. Because of all of that, I have owned many SVS subs in my life. And you nailed it though, I have NEVER liked SVS for two channel music. In fact the most recent sub I have owned from them was the PC2000. And guess what, sold it because it couldn’t do two channel. And you nailed it again. Metal is one the best genres of music to test subs out to. I have an entire playlist of double kick drum bass metal music. And if you are looking for a quick sub that is amazing on two channel music, check out the RSL Speedwoofer 10s, best Musical sub I have ever owned. And it’s no slouch on home theater. I have owned a pair now for 1.5 years and they aren’t going anywhere. In face I am buying two more to match with my new Magnepan LRS’s. Keep up the great work man! I appreciate and enjoy your videos! Oh, The Home Theater Hobbyist tested out the RSL too and he really likes them too.

    Man you’ve got to do a HSU review... in particular their ULS-15 MK2 because music and 2 channel users looking for nice clean bass will love it! Its a 15inch sealed sub, it’s specs are amazing flat from 200hz down to 20hz +/- 1dB and can hit at 12.5hz at 90dbs! Price to performance I really don’t think there’s a better sub out there at $800! It mops the floor of much more expensive subs... I am a music enthusiast but also a home theater enthusiast. This thing was perfect for me, not only do I can that insanely tight bass when listening to music, I can feel the right swift kicks of the bass drum... I get that total earth shaking bass while watching movies like midway or Jurrasic park. I loved the sub so much I bought a second one... not cause I needed it, I just felt compelled to run duals.

I might be among the few that hope for sonic perfection via 2 channel listening and am just fine with "good enough" regarding theater. Most of the time I'll pair the 3000 with my Emotiva 4s monitors, but I can't wait to try it with my Stealth 8 monitors, which already hit -3-dB point is at 35 Hz, and the -6-dB point is at 32 Hz,but I'm curious to see how everything integrates as I free the monitors of some of the low end responsibilities.

    Nice review thank you. The sb3000 is very expensive. It's a bit cheaper for US customers but it even far more expensive in Europe. Cost £1,300.00 or more which is far more than in USD.
    I've got one and I've not regretted an inch for my purchase. I live in a small space and it is an over-kill because the svs measurement suggested the sb1000 pro for me.
    This sb3000, oh my gosh, will rattle not just yours but your very neighbours' floors, walls and pipes underneath flooring as well. It actually drops deep to very impactful levels below the human hearing threshold. Plus the bass levels are adjustable to even insanely dig far deeper with no distortion if that's what you'd wish.
    This thing can pressurise a large living room. You could need two if your space is extremely large depending on your taste.

    I’m surprised to hear that you have humming issues that you can “hear 6-7 feet away”. It’s pretty intrusive no doubt. Mine is dead silent.
    I’ve paired this sub with my Heresys III, and it’s definitely a good match to add a nice foundation to the music, being very tight, fast enough and having high output to keep up with the fastest bass of my HIII and overall sensivity.
    Cut-off is at 60 Hz with a slope of 24 dB, the integration is seamless and one SB-3000 is more than enough with mains that go down in the 50-60 Hz vicinity as directional bass isn’t a factor. With very small monitors, a stereo sub set-up might be indicated.
    It’s too bad you didn’t have a chance to download the SVS app, although after a while it wears thin as you basically keep the same 2-3 settings (music | movie | gaming and/or TV) that you have tweaked.
    I like your “no nonsense” or pragmatic reviews. Keep up the good work.

I am sure it is more noticeable with speakers like the KEF LS50, but for those that go down pretty low (Tektons, Zus), will it really make a difference with music? Or is it only likely to improve the sound with specific musical genres?

    Great channel. I have the SB3000 for my home and love it but need something lighter for portable use with a JBL MK2 battery operated PA. JBL can hit maybe 110db max. I play heavy electronic synth music and also full symphonic music at 100db+ in the home. Need something less than 40lbs. I don't need the handles of a live sub or the ruggedness just looking for max performance. This is not for gigging, just personal mobil use. As an audiophile I'm looking for the best SQ but need the most slam/attack for loud listening. This is for playing tracks only no live instruments. Here are my choices regardless of price: SVS SBMicro3000, SVS SB2000Pro which I read can hit 121dB at 30Hz, a live sound sub- Bose Sub1 480 watts, 40Hz low end ,118RMS, or a studio sub the RCF Ayra Pro 10 goes down to 30Hz, 120dB max, 300watts RMS. Very confused between home Hifi-studio-or-Live sound subs??

    I'm currently researching subs for two channel stereo listening. I'm so glat you did a review, albeit a short one, regards two channel listening, as every review you go to just talk about bass slam, and movies. I'm not at all interested in how much I can make my furniture shake. I was looking ar REL's as they get great reviews for music, however they are very expensive. I can get two of these for a little over what it would cost me to get one REL S/510. I'm very tempted by these SVS, they're not as pretty as the REL, which are a statement piece for sure, however I wonder how much of the REL is hype, on creating a luxury item. I'd very much like to see how these compared to the REL S/510

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  Před 5 lety +2

      Nowadays? I couldn't tell you. 10 years ago? You could hear it in the upper bass. Class A/B amps would usually sound 'fuller', have more 'body', or whatver adjective you want to use. Class D amps, in the upper bass region, would sound cooler by comparison. That said, things like fancy analog input stages and advancement in Class-D circuits have begun to seriously blur those lines.

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  Před 5 lety

      If you're running a single sub, then the answer is usually: "yes". You will want it centered and as close to being aligned with the front baffles of your speakers as possible. The problem is that this is *rarely* possible in the ideal world. The next best option is to run dual subs so you can load the room more evenly (thus allowing you to get away with typical corner placement). And if neither are good options, then you just gotta find a place to put it and try your best. If that's the case, click on the description box of this review and scroll down for some generic yet good advice that comes from SVS.

    Hmm i can only hear a very, very faint high pitch hum from the back plate if I'm like 4 inches away. I can add that I'm VERY sensitive to these kind of sounds and this is a non issue for me since it is only barely noticeble even next to it. Could be some kind of coil whine like in computers? Also "dirty" current from the wall socket could perhaps exagerate this like in computers.
