Even though I've recently revealed that I paid off all my student loans, I've actually be financially free for almost three weeks and the second question everyone asks me (besides how does it feel) is, "What's gonna be your first purchase?".
I thought this would be a fun video to film because what I originally thought was going to be my first big purchase, was not at all what I wanted to spend my money on. When you finally have some financial stability, it's been my (very recent) experience that you don't want to spend your hard earned money on stupid shit. Who needs a Gucci bag when you can pretend to be Ina Garten for the rest of your life?
Don't worry, I will be doing my final budget video of the year (and my life) and will explain my financial plan moving forward buutttt I needed to treat myself before getting back into the groove of completing my savings fund.

LOL! I love that your first big purchase was a stand mixer. I remember I told myself that I'd get a designer bag when I got my first big major promotion. Once I got there I felt silly and instead bought a Blendtec blender. Best decision ever!!! haha

Quest to FIRE Like you said, we all value different things. If you can easily afford something you love, it’s totally fair game. Frugality is worth it because you spend money on what you really want!
@@QuesttoFIRE I have three $1600 - 2000 bags and they bring me so much joy! They were pre-owned, and at one time ethically created - no shitty unsustainable supply chains - all people involved in the designing, sourcing, selling were well paid and worked in good conditions. They're classic styles that have held up for decades. I'll keep them forever, and treasure them, they'll never be thrown out. They'll go to my children. I'll wear them hundreds of times. I value having a few high quality items that took attention and care to create, over many cheaper alternates that I could cycle through where I don't know how they were formed. I didn't go into debt to buy them either. Cool if it doesn't align with your values, but I wouldn't knock it as frivolous when it's actually a highly intentional and conscientious choice, made to be less consumerist than supporting cheaper bags that may be knockoffs from unsustainable rapid production cycles.

I told my self no big purchases until I’m debt free, and it’s keeping me motivated because I really really want an Oculus Quest. Tomorrow I’ll be paying off my car and the rest of my debt should be gone next July. Thanks for being a huge motivation, congratulations again on being debt free.

Girl, I had the same mentality. I told myself my first purchase after becoming debt free was a handbag (Chanel or YSL). While I was working on paying off my debt I developed or was in process of trying to live a minimalistic lifestyle. So! I sold ALL my 18 handbags (except for 2 which I felt I use often). And I returned all the stuff I got as wedding gifts that I didn’t use bc it’s was pretty and fancy, but I didn’t use them at all and it took up estate space (another thing I learned in becoming minimalistic). I RETURNED MY MIXER STAND. :( I wanted to keep it so bad, but I only used it to make mash potatoes lol. I’m glad I did bc it took up counter space and I barely used it.
So what did I buy for my first debt free present to myself? A Nespresso coffee maker kit with milk foam maker 🤓🙈😝.

I love my kitchen aid stand mixer! Since I don’t bake a lot, I try to find other ways to use it. My fav at the moment is for shredding chicken.
Put chicken breast in the crockpot on high for 4 hours or low for 7-8 hours until it’s tender. Then put in your mixer and mix on low until it’s shredded (less than a minute). It shreds it pretty fine so if you’re wanting larger chunks you may stick with shredding with forks. It’s saved me so much time!!
oohhh, that's a good tip! I've baked three things so far but I'm definitely not a baker myself. I do want to try a bread though
Just wanted to say Aja, that considering how much you make and that youre DEBT FREE, you totally couldve bought the mixer and a super expensive purse. Your ability to still make controlled purchases shows youre a TRUE WINNER with money! Congrats! You totally deserve this
I think it might take me a couple years to be comfortable paying for a designer purse. To me, just seems kinda silly to spend all that money on a purse.

Congratulations on the Kitchen Aid purchase! I have loved mine over the years & now have the deluxe hand mixer and 5 and 3.5 & stand mixers. One of the best things about your purchase is that you have wanted it so long before pulling the trigger, you will totally appreciate it much more! I have been meaning to make Ina's chocolate cake for so long, I'm gonna make it this weekend for sure.
Low key I have never related so hard to someone on youtube. I love that you chose something that you've always wanted instead of going the route of a hand bag. Mixers like this are super useful and totally worth the investment. So excited for you and can't wait to watch your cooking videos!

OMG I've wanted a stand mixer FOREVER, I remember when I was registering for our wedding I was praying someone would get me the mixer. It's such a status symbol lol. Enjoy your mixer and rolling pin! You deserve it.
I've had that same mixer for 30 years! It's still going strong, and I love it! Be sure to read the instructions when you get it. I think you're supposed to calibrate the thing where you attach the whisk or dough hook to be sure it's in the right position in relation to the bowl. Yes, you NEED a mixer!

Ahh I am so happy for you! Baking is one of my true joys in life, mainly because of the treats that result from it, and having appliances like stand mixers make the whole process far less tiring, and of course, quicker!

@@AjaDang I would have to say biscuits, or cookies as you would say in America. They are usually quick to make and to cook, especially once you know the recipe well, and they taste incomparably better than anything you can get in the shop. They are often far better for you, or maybe more accurately, not as bad for you 😂
Congrats girl!!! I've negotiated at stores to give me the discounts I would have gotten off the rebates on rakuten. All you have to do is ask! I even told my now husband when he purchased my engagement ring, he had better used a coupon and negotiated the price😂. Working on our debt free journey paying off my student loans! OMG me too! I've been dreaming of a stand mixer from KitchenAid for at least the past 10 years. I love baking and have used a hand mixer because the KitchenAid stand mixer is so expensive. Last year in October, I saw a huge sale for these mixers and finally bought my first one!! Honestly, it feels extremely rewarding and makes baking so much easier. I used to make apple pies (crust and filling) from scratch. Using a hand mixer, it was like a workout. With the stand mixer, it makes things a lot easier. Hope you enjoy your first stand mixer as much as I do! P.S. You're really awesome and inspiring!
