Agreed, I grew up in the Detroit area and started playing guitar in 1974, Ted was a very big deal locally. He was also the reason that in 1976 I purchased a brand new Twin Reverb!

This came out the year I started playing guitar. I remember my dad buying it for me, because he was a huge Nugent fan and wanted me to learn how to play like him. It brings back memories. I was a 12 year old kid, but damn did it make an impact.
These days when people think of Ted Nugent, they think of the crazy behaving, high strung hunter and political guru. But what most people seem to have forgotten, is that it was his GUITAR that put his face on the map...Not his politics or his hobbies! Ted’s a BEAST!!

I saw him with KISS for their "Crazy Nights" tour in Pittsburgh. I never seen such a high-energy performance, it almost ruined KISS for me...they looked like the Beatles in comparison
The first time I saw him was at 1979 Day on the Green MONSTERS OF ROCK and AC/DC was there (with Bon Scott). Others included; Aerosmith, Mahogany Rush and Saint Paradise.

I’ve heard many ppl throughout the yrs saying, never meet your idols, they’ll only disappoint you. Not true, I met Ted back in 1990, and we became instant friends. I had NO expectations, therefore I was NOT disappointed. He is who he is, and will NEVER apologize for it. He is very passionate about his beliefs. He is the same person OFF stage as he is on stage, and I love that about him. He does talk too much, and I can deal with that, LMFAO!!!! But that’s Ted. I’ve been a fan since 1968 with the Amboy Dukes, and I’m still a fan to this day, and a friend for the past 33yrs. My point, don’t expect anything when meeting your idols. Accept them for WHO they are, and you won’t be disappointed. And for those that don’t know, that’s Michael Lutz from Brownsville Station on bass.

I was introduced to Ted Nugent’s music in 1975 when the first solo album was released. My 13 year old ears were immediately dazzled. Insanely talented and creative player. Ted’s playing is pure: no pedals or gimmicks -just an amp, a guitar, and a love of music.
I got to meet him back stage after a concert. The thing I noticed the most is Ted likes Ted but I suppose that’s why he is Ted Nugent. His place in rock n roll is very large. Not all people can say they sold out arenas worldwide for several years & headlined the big major multi band shows. Truly the motor city madman

I gave Ted a pick once at a book signing for "Kill It And Grill It" that was made from a silver quarter run over by an Amtrak train and then carefully machined for extreme sonic bombast. Just ask Ted about it. He won't remember!

He opened the show by standing on a platform above his amp stack, and he jumps off the platform, flying thru the air, lands on stage in a quasi-splits pose and strikes the first chord of the show and the place goes wild, all 12,000 of us. I saw him jump off his fenders at the Silver Dome and land on his face, I think he broke his guitar. It was either that show ,or another, Iggy Pop opened and came out wearing panty hose...................he got pelted by every beer on the main floor, all at once. Good times.

Aside from Ted's awesome playing and tone the most vital thing here is about dedication, endeavour and positive attitude: applicable to just about everything. Fantastic.

This guy can really Jam! Saw Teddy play live at Binghamton Veterans Memorial Arena back in the mid nineties. It was worth every penny. Paid around $10 bucks for a concert ticket back then. Now they cost $50 bucks plus!
I know exactly what Ted Nugent is saying as a Harmonica (HARP) Player of over 35 yrs. I learned alot from ancient harmonica players as Little Walter, Kim Wilson, Charlie Musslewhite, Sonny Terry, Sonnyboy Wilson, Paul Butterfield and so many greats I attempt to emulate but have developed my own tone and style. But Ted Nugent is from another planet and world like TY Tabor of Kings X. The best!

This is absolutely HILARIOUS. Can't believe I'd never seen it before. When I was in middle school & early high school I went through a good few years of listening to a lot of this guy (one of very first concert experiences). Not my kinda thing anymore, but this instructional video is GOLD. Hysterical parody of himself and he knows it, loves it, and completely nails it. I swear to you, I get a very Jim Carrey vibe from a lot of this, and would not be surprised if Carrey studied this over and over while he was getting his own early thing together. Unbelievable...
I could never be sober in the way he is as I love the occasional beer and smoke a joint a couple times a week but I really appreciate and respect people who are so comfortable being themselves that they never rely on drugs or alcohol. That said this is an amazing guitar lesson and I just love Ted and anyone else who can only be themselves and aren’t afraid to step out.
A friend told me about his first Ted Nugent concert where the lights went down, there was an ominous silence then a blood curdling scream followed by a wild man with a guitar leaping off the lighting rig going straight into a song...!
And this was the year Spirit if the Wild debuted too, that's one helluva badass album with too many excellent guitar licks and riffs to count. After 20 years he released one of his greatest albums.

I started playing in the mid 80's and studied Ted. Till this day I can still hear his influence in my playing. No matter what else I learn and play I can still hear it pop in at times.
I been listening to uncle ted since the amboy dukes days. My uncle always steered us towards good music when we kids. Every Xmas it was a few good albums. AC/DC highway to hell 77. Nugent all his albums. On Vinyl and 8 track!! This gets me inspired. I remember watching Miami Vice episode he was in. I saw him 10 times
FINALLY there is a REAL Rock Star that uses an ultra-thin pick like me. It seems like all the other big fish prefer these super rigid thick picks. I’ve been using ultra-thin Dunlop nylon picks my entire life and simply can’t use anything else.
Not sure what style you play but I’d tend to agree with that myself . I just can’t seem to comfortably use the really thick picks. I can’t seem to get a feel for how hard or soft I’m picking and especially when I’m playing faster stuff the control just isn’t there for me with a too thin or too thick of a pic. I love metal guitar the best ( but also love blues , classical , instrumental only guitar centred bands or solo players ( Joe Satriani-USA , Angel Vivaldi - USA I think , Andy James- british , Distant Dream -they are amazing/ from Poland , Widek- from Poland also , Hubris , God is an Astronaut and a few others ) and also most heavier types of hard rock ) because they don’t slip when you sweat ( I always liked the strange or special kind of plastic they use ) Ever since the first time I tried one my friend had when I was 18 ( I’m 51 now) I’ve always used Dunlop -Tortex orange .60 mostly. or occasionally the thicker Dunlop- Tortex yellow .73. For me anyways anything under or over that thickness just either doesn’t feel right or flex enough or it’s way to much on the thin side and it’s too floppy enough to really dig in and get a good pick attack on the choppy heavy riffs . I like the pick slightly thick but still pretty flexible, if I need to make it flex or just be stiffer I just change the choke pinch point on it. I think my ultimate pick would be in between the orange and yellow thickness a Dunlop Tortex .66/ or .67 but far as I know they don’t make them …

Yes! His right hand was the first thing I noticed...well, after the "wench." Most of the guitar greats have said over and over to "watch the right hand, THAT is where the REAL playing happens." I always try, but then I almost always shift over to the left! I think this is the first time I've ever been able to watch a guitar player's RH the entire time. The second thing I noticed was what he said later in the video, which was that he's "gentle" with his right. I think I noticed it because I just heard the same thing about Angus Young from his guitar tech. It's true, but Uncle Ted here is visibly more so than Angus.
@@jamesthe-doctor8981 He is also playing a short scale guitar. 23", I think, as opposed to the typical 24.75" gibson scale. makes a huge difference. Stupid fun to play. You can bend strings all to hell, and makes the player look bigger than they really are.

And he doesn't really know a lot about playing guitar either. He does have a decent technique, but he is bending all the weak notes, his phrases have no beginning and no end, and his timing is somewhere in between vague and non-existant making him sound in some ways like a beginner.

What a character. I've never been wild about his music, but I've always appreciated his unapologetic approach to life. The left has done everything they can to paint him as a heartless killer of defenseless animals, though he has greater respect and understanding of wildlife than they could possibly grasp. I am not on the far right by any means, but I am an American, and therefore I respect the right of the individual to express themselves as they wish. You go, Ted.
Actually hunters do more for wildlife conservation than anyone else, partly by the hunting licenses and tags they pay for. They also have a great respect and appreciation for wildlife. Uncle Ted hunts for food and consumes and donates what he hunts.

I remember going to all the Ted Nugent Concerts every time he came to Houston. The Houston Chronicle reported that his Concerts were as Loud as a B52 Bomber at full Throttle inside a Hanger. His Concerts were Loud, Proud, and Always a great Show. He was the wildest person I’ve ever seen playing on Stage of any Concert. It was Great Times. I Love his Politics also. I even learned to play all of his songs.👍👍👍😁

It’s just a lot of people don’t like rock music played by a very conservative, small government Republican, white anti drug bow hunter who oozes self confidence and preaches a hard work ethic incorporating self reliance, personal responsibility and independence. It's his 'stage persona' and reflective of his off the wall humor and sharp wit. He's just a really high-energy human and he channels this in his playing and the persona that informs his playing. It's a true testament to Ted's grip on reality that he has never gone down that long, dark road far too many musicians wander - always to their detriment (just ask Clapton), sometimes to their death ('ask' those that paid this price, or ask their loved ones who bore witness to the price paid).
Went to see The Who at JFK Stadium in ‘82. Outdoor stadium mind you. 157,000 people. It is not far from the airport. When they started playing, it was mind numbing. We could see jets taking off, but could not hear them. You could scream as load as you wanted, but needed hand gestures to be heard. Happens I go to see Black Sabbath the next weekend at an indoor show and I couldn’t hear them. I was still damaged. The Who is the loudest man made entity I have ever heard in my life.
Saw him in the early 80's at the peak of his Wango Tango powers ....my ears literally rang for 3-days after that 3-ringer show!.....close 2nd for sheer volum-ocity was Motorhead.
I saw Ted in Lubbock Texas back in the day. He ended the show by hanging his guitar on his amp cab (while it was still plugged in) and then shooting it with a crossbow. Dude is awesome.

I went from playing acoustic to playing electric in the 70’s because of one single riff. Cat Scratch Fever. Then VH dropped that first iconic album with no BS and the journey of tone chasing started. Ted sparked it for me though.

I owned this from about the time I was 15-17 years old. Was my first real guitar instructional video. Watching this guy take that Glock to that small electric piano. Man he as a character. Anyway this helped form my right hand technique more than any other source. I played Metallica, took, and all sorts of other stuff after I started to pick up the tips on this video. I gotta admit. Even in todays standards , he had a great tone with those Gibson guitars and those peavey amps. With no pedals. No overdrive pedals! Blew me away bc I was a pedal freak. Always have been and will always be. Pedal are just cool to me. So, thanks Ted. I’m sure many a child had this video amd learned a lot from it. I know I did. Oh and that pRS guitar he has in this video made me want a prs so so badly. Still do. I will get a prs.
People today I don't think understand how hard it was to get good at guitar pre CZcams. You had to listen to records over and over stopping and playing, trying to get the notes right. There were no tutorials, no good ones at least, and you had to really really love it too keep going. And to not only master guitar, but to become an artist, creating guitar parts and songs, that has to be something one was destined to do. Today, almost anyone can become a guitar player. Including me!
That is very True. I couldn’t count all the Hours I spent Practicing to Records or Tapes. You had to learn it on your own. Now you click on CZcams and they will slow a Song down, and Teach you every Lead part slowly. It’s easy to learn now. Back then t took a lot of dedication and hard work.
Ted Nugent is one of my favorite master guitarists. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, performer----Uncle Ted is the TOTAL PACKAGE DEAL. Plus, he was ALWAYS gorgeous to watch...Mmmmmm. Loved him since I was a kid listening to the Amboy Dukes "Journey To The Center Of The Mind" sounds even better now than it did back then. Ted Nugent is simply THAT fantastic!!!
I don’t play guitar but I think Ted is one of the greats. The character and uniqueness of his playing set him apart. He’s also very versatile. Maybe not the fastest player but definitely plenty fast. And the smartest guitar player ever.
Yeah, Stranglehold is a masterpiece. Playing guitar is one thing, but writing the music and lyrics is another. I know some great musicians and bands that never made it because they couldn't be original. They couldn't create. They could only do covers.
Not a bad show and it didn't cost me anything what a guy ,seriously he's extremely smart, talented is his given. I was at a concert one year and his amp stacks was to the roof and not all the amps weren't turned on amazing, thanks Ted james m.
If anyone is interested...I did some searching and I think when Ted said he uses a 52 pick, and mentioned that it's thin, I believe he's referencing a 0.52mm thickness pick which converts to 0.02" or 20 thousandths of an inch. I found an 0.026" (0.66mm) thickness pick in my guitar stuff...and it's pretty thin. I tried using the side edge like Ted and wouldn't ya know, I can chug on the A string much faster than when I use the side of the pick. Thanks for the tip Ted!!! Ted Nugent for President!!!! Edit: I'm watching this again because it's so great and at around 12:20 when he's using his vice grip finger as a slide he's got the biggest smile. Guitar makes me smile too, and so does Ted!!! Vote red or we'll all be dead!

I use Marshall TSL 100 stacks as opposed to Peavey Amps but from the way you sound I'm sure the Peavey's are just as good or better !!!

This came out the year I started playing guitar. I remember my dad buying it for me, because he was a huge Nugent fan and wanted me to learn how to play like him.

I’ve been a fan since 1968 with the Amboy Dukes, and I’m still a fan to this day, and a friend for the past 33yrs. My point, don’t expect anything when meeting your idols. Accept them for WHO they are, and you won’t be disappointed.

I was introduced to Ted Nugent’s music in 1975 when the first solo album was released. My 13 year old ears were immediately dazzled. Insanely talented and creative player. Ted’s playing is pure: no pedals or gimmicks -just an amp, a guitar, and a love of music.

I got to meet him back stage after a concert. The thing I noticed the most is Ted likes Ted but I suppose that’s why he is Ted Nugent. His place in rock n roll is very large. When I was in middle school & early high school I went through a good few years of listening to a lot of this guy (one of very first concert experiences). Not my kinda thing anymore, but this instructional video is GOLD. Hysterical parody of himself and he knows it, loves it, and completely nails it. I could never be sober in the way he is as I love the occasional beer and smoke a joint a couple times a week but I really appreciate and respect people who are so comfortable being themselves that they never rely on drugs or alcohol. FINALLY there is a REAL Rock Star that uses an ultra-thin pick like me. It seems like all the other big fish prefer these super rigid thick picks. I’ve been using ultra-thin Dunlop nylon picks my entire life and simply can’t use anything else.
Not sure what style you play but I’d tend to agree with that myself . I just can’t seem to comfortably use the really thick picks. I can’t seem to get a feel for how hard or soft I’m picking and especially when I’m playing faster stuff the control just isn’t there for me with a too thin or too thick of a pic. I love metal guitar the best ( but also love blues , classical , instrumental only guitar centred bands or solo players ( Joe Satriani-USA , Angel Vivaldi - USA I think , Andy James- british , Distant Dream -they are amazing/ from Poland , Widek- from Poland also , Hubris , God is an Astronaut and a few others ) and also most heavier types of hard rock ) because they don’t slip when you sweat ( I always liked the strange or special kind of plastic they use ) Ever since the first time I tried one my friend had when I was 18 ( I’m 51 now) I’ve always used Dunlop -Tortex orange .60 mostly. or occasionally the thicker Dunlop- Tortex yellow .73. For me anyways anything under or over that thickness just either doesn’t feel right or flex enough or it’s way to much on the thin side and it’s too floppy enough to really dig in and get a good pick attack on the choppy heavy riffs . I like the pick slightly thick but still pretty flexible, if I need to make it flex or just be stiffer I just change the choke pinch point on it. I think my ultimate pick would be in between the orange and yellow thickness a Dunlop Tortex .66/ or .67 but far as I know they don’t make them …

Yes! His right hand was the first thing I noticed...well, after the "wench." Most of the guitar greats have said over and over to "watch the right hand, THAT is where the REAL playing happens." I always try, but then I almost always shift over to the left! I think this is the first time I've ever been able to watch a guitar player's RH the entire time. The second thing I noticed was what he said later in the video, which was that he's "gentle" with his right. I think I noticed it because I just heard the same thing about Angus Young from his guitar tech. It's true, but Uncle Ted here is visibly more so than Angus.

What a character. I've never been wild about his music, but I've always appreciated his unapologetic approach to life. The left has done everything they can to paint him as a heartless killer of defenseless animals, though he has greater respect and understanding of wildlife than they could possibly grasp. I am not on the far right by any means, but I am an American, and therefore I respect the right of the individual to express themselves as they wish. You go, Ted.
Actually hunters do more for wildlife conservation than anyone else, partly by the hunting licenses and tags they pay for. They also have a great respect and appreciation for wildlife. Uncle Ted hunts for food and consumes and donates what he hunts.

I remember going to all the Ted Nugent Concerts every time he came to Houston. The Houston Chronicle reported that his Concerts were as Loud as a B52 Bomber at full Throttle inside a Hanger. His Concerts were Loud, Proud, and Always a great Show. He was the wildest person I’ve ever seen playing on Stage of any Concert. It was Great Times. I Love his Politics also. It's a true testament to Ted's grip on reality that he has never gone down that long, dark road far too many musicians wander - always to their detriment (just ask Clapton), sometimes to their death ('ask' those that paid this price, or ask their loved ones who bore witness to the price paid).

Went to see The Who at JFK Stadium in ‘82. Outdoor stadium mind you. 157,000 people.
It is not far from the airport. When they started playing, it was mind numbing. We could see jets taking off, but could not hear them.
You could scream as load as you wanted, but needed hand gestures to be heard.
Happens I go to see Black Sabbath the next weekend at an indoor show and I couldn’t hear them. I was still damaged.

I went from playing acoustic to playing electric in the 70’s because of one single riff. Cat Scratch Fever. Then VH dropped that first iconic album with no BS and the journey of tone chasing started. Ted sparked it for me though.
Wow factor 100%..when I seen Ted Nugent in the 80s it was Friday the 13th I found 80 dollars and snuck into the Pan Am center and Mr.Nugent was swinging on a rope hooked onto the bars or whatever you call the ceiling or rapters he swanged and swanged that's the only thing I remember I think he had cmalfage on or a cave man fleece wrapped. Ted Nugent one of my all time favorite guitarists who I've seen many times over the years a huge inspiration to creating recording and playing music awesome ferocious intense Rock 'n' Roll, I bought this video on VHS tape back in 1995 at Chuck Levins Washington Music Center a fantastic video to get fired up, motivated to play, learn and Rock Out!!!
Went to a lot of concerts in the 80s, but Ted was the loudest and the most kickass guitar player I liked the best. Needs to be in the Rocken Roll Hall of Fame Now while he's still around. Do it NOW PEOPLE! Saw him in Portland Me. Best show I ever saw. Thanks Ted,

I can fully agree with that ! I never really thought about it ! guess I just have always assumed he already was…. 2023 ! Induct Uncle TED Damn it ! Or the whole Rock’n Roll Hall of Fame thing really won’t mean much in the future! If a dude can be a monster player like that for 45 YEARS! and still not get in… as far as I’m concerned… that is a Serious Oversight on their part! That needs to be addressed This Year!

Funny guy. I've never stopped to listen to him, he's more 80s than 70s as I pictured him before.
I owned this from about the time I was 15-17 years old. Was my first real guitar instructional video. Watching this guy take that Glock to that small electric piano. Man he as a character. Anyway this helped form my right hand technique more than any other source. I played Metallica, took, and all sorts of other stuff after I started to pick up the tips on this video. I gotta admit. Even in todays standards , he had a great tone with those Gibson guitars and those peavey amps. With no pedals. No overdrive pedals! Blew me away bc I was a pedal freak. Always have been and will always be. Pedal are just cool to me. So, thanks Ted. I’m sure many a child had this video amd learned a lot from it. I know I did. Oh and that pRS guitar he has in this video made me want a prs so so badly. Still do. I will get a prs.
People today I don't think understand how hard it was to get good at guitar pre CZcams. You had to listen to records over and over stopping and playing, trying to get the notes right. There were no tutorials, no good ones at least, and you had to really really love it too keep going. And to not only master guitar, but to become an artist, creating guitar parts and songs, that has to be something one was destined to do. Today, almost anyone can become a guitar player. Including me!
That is very True. I couldn’t count all the Hours I spent Practicing to Records or Tapes. You had to learn it on your own. Now you click on CZcams and they will slow a Song down, and Teach you every Lead part slowly. It’s easy to learn now. Back then t took a lot of dedication and hard work.

Ted Nugent is one of my favorite master guitarists. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, performer----Uncle Ted is the TOTAL PACKAGE DEAL. Plus, he was ALWAYS gorgeous to watch...Mmmmmm. Loved him since I was a kid listening to the Amboy Dukes "Journey To The Center Of The Mind" sounds even better now than it did back then. Ted Nugent is simply THAT fantastic!!!

I don’t play guitar but I think Ted is one of the greats. The character and uniqueness of his playing set him apart. He’s also very versatile. Maybe not the fastest player but definitely plenty fast. And the smartest guitar player ever.
Yeah, Stranglehold is a masterpiece. Playing guitar is one thing, but writing the music and lyrics is another. I know some great musicians and bands that never made it because they couldn't be original. They couldn't create. They could only do covers.
He is but David Crosby hates him cuz he is not a communist- Nugent is an American guitar slinger that rides guitar & plays it and celebrates it ✌️
Not a bad show and it didn't cost me anything what a guy ,seriously he's extremely smart, talented is his given. I was at a concert one year and his amp stacks was to the roof and not all the amps weren't turned on amazing, thanks Ted james m.
If anyone is interested...I did some searching and I think when Ted said he uses a 52 pick, and mentioned that it's thin, I believe he's referencing a 0.52mm thickness pick which converts to 0.02" or 20 thousandths of an inch. I found an 0.026" (0.66mm) thickness pick in my guitar stuff...and it's pretty thin. I tried using the side edge like Ted and wouldn't ya know, I can chug on the A string much faster than when I use the side of the pick. Thanks for the tip Ted!!! Ted Nugent for President!!!!
Edit: I'm watching this again because it's so great and at around 12:20 when he's using his vice grip finger as a slide he's got the biggest smile. Guitar makes me smile too, and so does Ted!!! Vote red or we'll all be dead!
