I just realized something. When the developer said "the player is gone" he was referring to his son. It's like at heart he was making this game for his son, and when he died he lost all the motivation to finish it, and the grief combined with the pressure to release the game drove him insane. I honestly find this story more sad than anything. It's very well done though.

funny thing is that this is not a creepypasta video. It's actually part of an ARG, and the seller might be a character in it. The pasta setting is still really funny tho, as nowadays it's so obvious that there aren't actual people who would go out and sell whatever random strange shit they found in their attics/basements.

@@SunGodAtomes Alternative Reality Game. It's basically a big simulated storyline you need to follow by solving out puzzles that the game makers leave for you to find. It's like playing treasure hunt on the Internet, but on a much bigger scale and with a story attached to it, and the only "map" that you are given is pieces of riddles and the clues to solve them that are scattered all around the web, waiting for you to find them.

What I like is how he says he'll talk about what he thinks of the game after he plays it, but he never comes back to talk about the game, hes silent until the video ends

Maybe he’s alluding to him being sucked in the game (like petscop) he did say it was a “revival machine” and the machine was created for the devs dying son
The story telling in the video is fantastic.
Not only that, the camera also slowly gets closer to the TV while the room gets darker and darker.

something wonderful about this vid is that it imitates the style of gaming history videos that are popular now adays, setting it apart from Petscop. It even mimes how many of them would do sudden jokes to keep the viewers attention. I'd love to see the materials like the magazine pages published somewhere to be read!

actually, no. The creator of this game is manfred lorenz, he created this game for his daugther and other people, but suddenly he found his daugther dead after his daugther fell down the stairs. Manfreds daugther has been brought to the hospital, but sadly the doctors couldn't save her then manfreds got stressed and depressed, so he stole a computer from the office and bring his boat to the sea and drowned himself with the computer he stole.

Petscop is a classic that will be hard to top, but this has potential.
I come back to this video every now and then, even though the ARG has been "solved". I still think this is a masterclass example on how to do an ARG. Everything is SO neatly done, the setup, Adam's video, making other unknown lets play channels with Crow gameplay; everything feels natural and is set up so beautifully. Wish we can get more ARGs of this caliber and quality instead of generic trying too hard to be creepy ones.

Just a heads up there’s waaaaay more gameplay videos out there if you search Catastrophe Crow. And if you go to the uploaded videos on those channels there’s even more hidden. I think this thing is just beginning and im so here for it.
what i genuinely find amazing about this video is that, atleast for the beggining, it is shot and edited EXACTLY like a review for an actual game, like the way he edits the swears, the graphics he shows, and even the music he uses, it PERFECTLY recreates a genuine yt channel to an impressive degree, very big props to Adam

If I remember right this was my first introduction to both crow 64 and your work so I was 100% just taking this all as fact and loving every second of it

I love the detail that one of the crow's wings is white, which allows for the player to easily see which direction they're facing, which was a real thing taken to consideration when designing characters in early 3d games like Crash Bandicoot(his gloves and light colored belly patch)

I mean this as a major compliment: the least convincing thing in the entire video is Crow's wall jump, and only because it wasn't a common mechanic at the time. The aesthetic production here is basically perfect, and I don't possess enough high-fives to adequately express how impressed I am with it.

This implies that his daughter died, since the messages mostly imply that the game was meant for his daughter, Thea. This is heartbreaking.

I don't know if she's quite dead as I feel like parts of the story seem to suggest that the developer somehow found a way to either keep her alive or bring her back, and it may have something to do with his "suicide". However, it may have been better for her to have stayed dead.

i love that the tired tradition of cursed video game stories has been maturing lately. its gone from a bunch of edgelord kids wanting sonic to be gorey to people realizing that fake 3d virtual spaces resonate with us in a really particular way that can make for good horror, and that the tortured artist trope can be applied to game developers too.
Always been a fan of creepypasta and all that stuff, no matter how repetitive it became I just had a liking for this type of stuff. Really glad to see the amount of effort people are putting in to making these, it’s literally phenomenal.
