Dang everyone in this comment section is mean
Everyone says that Felix joining the Empire doesn't make sense, and I agree that the way they wrote his interactions with his former companions in these battles makes it look that way, but I think it DOES make sense if you think about his history, and also what he would have witnessed having joined the Black Eagle House while at the academy. *SPOILERS* below for those who don't know Felix's backstory yet.
Felix's brother, Glenn, died during the Tragedy of Duscur attempting to protect Dimitri. Felix's father, Rodrigue, hails Glenn's sacrifice as a noble, just, and therefore good (albeit regrettable and tragic) thing. Felix has been bitter about this ever since it happened, particularly since he saw Dimitri go absolutely berserk and therefore considers Dimitri to be something of a monster (hence the derisive nickname, Boar Prince). Ever since then, Felix has been absolutely jaded about the concepts of knighthood and blind loyalty. He wants to be stronger since he genuinely enjoys swordplay, and also because he wants to (in his mind) overcome Glenn, who was his rival, but even at the academy he is decidedly NOT training simply to be Dimitri's knight. He's not interested in that.
With that being the case, Felix is an easy recruit to Black Eagles during the academy days because he values sword strength (which Byleth has), and because, let's be honest, the Black Eagles is overall a strong house. Edelgard is a tank on her own, Bernadetta destroys everything as a sniper (and in Felix's supports with her, has a "technique" he's curious about to disarm opponents), Linhardt is noted as a genius despite being lazy, Caspar is SUPER enthusiastic about training, and so on and so forth. Since Sylvain joins immediately if fem!Byleth is chosen, Sylvain signing up with Black Eagles could be another motivation for Felix since Sylvain IS his best friend (and they made a promise to die together ffs). It's not necessary for him to sign up, ofc, but it's not hard to see why Felix -- thinking academy days are just academy days -- could switch over to Black Eagles, thinking he'd get more out of that House than a House with a mage as a professor.
Then the Holy Tomb happens. Felix sees Rhea call for the deaths of Edelgard and Byleth without anything resembling a trial, sees her transform into the Immaculate One and try to murder all of them, and therefore sees with his own eyes that EVERYTHING Edelgard has been saying about Rhea and the Church is *true*. Doesn't mean he's totally happy with the Flame Emperor business, but it does mean that he can see that what Edelgard was saying had merit. The fact that Edelgard also wants to *destroy the system of the nobility* AND gives everyone the option *multiple times* to peace out and not join the Black Eagle Strike Force AND therefore also doesn't believe that knight = laying down your life for your liege lord no matter what also probably further convinced him that this was where he wanted to be.
But the final straw probably came when Rhea fled to Faerghus and Dimitri decided to support her No Matter What (and the same goes for Rodrigue et al). Edelgard sent out information about how Rhea is terrible, information that Felix KNOWS is true, but neither Dimitri nor Rodrigue nor anyone else on Faerghus' side will hear it, because they have staunch loyalty to the Church of Seiros given that the Church of Seiros helped Faerghus be established. Regardless of what the Church does, Faerghus sides with them. It's the *same blind loyalty* that Glenn had toward Dimitri, that Rodrigue championed, that Rodrigue wanted Felix to have (and Dimitri, Rodrigue, and Ingrid all bring this up when Felix confronts them). It's the same loyalty that Felix has hated ever since Glenn's death. Does NOT mean that he is HAPPY to fight against them, BUT it makes sense that he WOULD, even if the fact that things ended up the way they did still eats him alive after the fact. (Because that's the thing about, you know, being a person; sometimes there are hard situations where there are no easy or clean answers out of it.)
So imo, Felix being on the Empire's side during the war if he joined the Black Eagles while at school makes sense. It also makes sense that he's not entirely comfortable with it, particularly with regards to Ingrid and Sylvain (if neither joined Black Eagles as well). That's what makes the writing in this game so good: the characters are complex and three-dimensional, rather than just being tropes, and the story clearly had a lot of thought put into it.
Why does this only have 12 likes? This comment is amazing.
Dimitri didn't JUST ally with Rhea and the Church. No. He swore FEALTY to her.
It makes sense but yeah in this case I believe Dimitri was right . My favorite route is the Blue lions
@@diegocoello3042 How was Dimitri right?
I wouldn't say hes right but from his view it makes sense to help rhea since he saw his step sister exposed as the flame.emperor working with the ppl that caused the tragedy of duscur
The fact that you have to fight your former students and friends makes the war arc so much more powerful than most game's war stories. It's also true to life because in war people die and there's no plot shield to hide behind. Anyone can die at pretty much any time.
The only problem is you really only get to know characters once you recruit them so on your first run it's much less meaningful when you kill a character and on your second run and later I have found it easy to recruit everyone.
Maybe I'll do a BE run where I don't recruit anyone...
Maybe if the game had 3 acts and didnt make you pick a house immediately.
Spend 10 chapters bobbing between the three then get the choice, then get the 10 chapters fighting each nation.
Wouldve been 30 chapters like every other game and would excuse the reused maps🤷♂️
Crimson Flower without recruiting anyone, and executing Claude and Lysithea, is essentially the closest you can come to a Three Houses Genocide Route.

As much as I love the Black Eagles....the Blue Lions definitely have the best within house interactions. They were such a tighter knit group from the beginning that it is so much harder to see them fight each other.
Also vanilla.
I think Golden deer was the tightest knit group, Claude was just so charasmatic and everyone seemed to act much more lax near each other than other houses. They just acted much friendly towards each other overall.
@@bluezebra6701 I actually think the Black Eagles as a group were a lot more realistic in their interactions and I'm glad all of them weren't exactly chummy with each other unlike GD and BL (which also has their exceptions like say Felix/Sylvain and Lorenz/Lysithea). @@TenaciousDingo That's missing the point entirely. The point is that Felix's reason for betraying his kingdom are still not as good or strong as some other characters, and yet he's the one that has the most boss convos for an out-of-house character.

Snippet for other houses students' choice in siding with Edelgard if they're recruited.
Blue Lions
Felix -- Put off with the hollow sense of nobility that his dad and Dimitri follows.
Sylvain -- Despite his fear, he promised to work with Byleth and he won't go back on that.
Mercedes -- Puts her faith in the Goddess and that their maybe something wrong with the Church.
Ingrid -- Figures that her decision could possibly help her family and their financial problems, in the future, if the Empire wins.
Annette -- Believes that there is a chance something is indeed wrong with the Church and something needs to be done.
Ashe -- He refuses to trust in the Church after what happened with Lonato and his brother and he wants to know what really happened.
Golden Deer
Leonie -- Mentioned that Jeralt was suspicious of Rhea and decided to stick with Byleth because she promised that to Jeralt.
Lysithea -- If there is a connection between the system of Crests and the Church, then she agrees with seeing both of them fall.
Lorenz -- His family was always in good terms with the Empire. So, this works for both sides.
Marianne -- Idolizes Edelgard's ability to go against the world for her belief and wonders if she can gain that confidence for herself.
Raphael -- If his sis is safe, that's fine with him. He also points out that it is not mandatory that he sides with the Alliance just because he lived there.
Ignatz -- Put his faith in Byleth and refuses to run away from fighting.
Yeah the eagles route definitely has the strongest motivations for the recruits to join it’s side. The other routes are just weak ones like “war bad” and no substance above that
Yeet Yeet this is especially true for Azure Moon, in Verdant Wind Claudes at least fighting for equality but Dimitri is just fighting to end the war, which I find disappointing
I'd also add for Sylvain that he hates his crest and the responsibility that came with it so he'd feel compelled to join the side that wants to tear down the system that promotes the value of crests.
Dimitri doesn’t like like the crest system either tho. If you read his endings it shows he changes Fodlan even more than Claude does. He just disagrees with the way Edelgard is doing things.
Not to mention Sylvain resents the crest system for what it did to his family, especially Miklan.
It's interesting that Sylvain and Byleth share a death quote. Killing enemy Sylvain here has him saying "So this is how it ends," and that's the same line as when Byleth is killed.
5:04 That exchange between Mercedes and Annette is truly heartbreaking...

The male protagonist has a different dialogue with Slyvain
Ramash440 wait how?
Ramash440 oh wow i guess i never tried to recruit him
It's much more malevolent from Sylvain when Byleth is male. Threw me off the first time through honestly.
I see all sides to this story it’s insane.
Rhea who lost her entire family, her people, all to a bandit and Those Who Slither in The Dark. She creates life to bring her mother back but none work until Byleth is born. She tries so hard to see her mother and in the Church of Serios route in all honesty she does she her mother again. You are her mother. So she dies happily and at peace.
Golden Deer route; Claude ends freaking racism! He fights against the empire, Those Who Slither In The Dark and Nemesis all to create the new Fodlan where everyone is equal and loved by all. Then heads to Almyra to do the same.
Blue Lions route; Dimitri who witnessed so much as a child falls from the heavens as an innocent and pledges his soul for revenge. And once it is in his grasp he loses more and then finally climbs from rock bottom to assume his role as the king for all. Finally at the point he takes out his former friend, his last piece of family and stands above all. Triumphant and scarred.
Black Eagles route; Edelgard who was tortured at a young age watching as her siblings were basically murdered in front of her and then given a crest she didn’t want against her will chooses to start a war to end all crest and the reign of Rhea who has been creating life to revive her mother from long ago. Soon she finds that it was harder than intended as she is willing to give up her life for this change in hand. She finishes the battle a leader for all and hands the kingdom, empire and alliance over to a new leader and exiles herself away.
And all this happens all because one professor chose a house to lead.
I just finished Black Eagle route for the first time and searched up for the dialogues, because I couldn't get them all. I can't believe this was just posted 6 hours ago.
Thank you for uploading this!
The fight between Mercedes and Annette is the most heartbreaking.
Am I the only one who gets annoyed that Sylvain and Ingrid only justify their actions by saying they’re fighting for the professor?
Like, they’re in the long list of victims of the system that Edelgard is trying to destroy, they should have brought that up.
Wasn't Sylvain brother situation part of the crest problem? Heck, even Ingrid has a problem with it
@@LAUTARO735
Yes, Miklan was disinherited because of his lack of a crest when Sylvain was found to have one instead, and for that reason, Miklan abused Sylvain to no end.
And so Miklan is basically one of the key reasons Sylvain hates crests. The types of women who only want him so they can get into the nobility or strengthen their ties with it by having a "crest baby" are another one.
The latter is similar to Ingrid's problem, which is that she's receiving lots of offers to be effectively 'bought' by guys who want her only for her crest. A few of her supports and her paralogue with Dorothea make mention of that.
They might have been affected negatively by the system but they were still close friends with Dimitri and didn't want the whole war to happen. if the system was to be changed, they would prefer a more peaceful method rather than to cut through their former classmates and Dimitri.
|t's the same mindset many of the BLs have when you follow Edelgarde since even they say that they are following professor as oppose to Edelgarde herself. It's quite telling how much faith they have in her believes and actions despite being her classmates.
Seriously sylvain absolutely hates crests. His brother tried to kill him because sylvain was going to be the leader of their house because of his crest. He feels like women only truly value him because he has a crest. A large part of his character is his hated towards crest.
Similarly ingrid also has her issues being that she is constantly being offered large sums of money to marry random noble dudes thanks to her crest. I don't get why this wasn't mentioned especially since both characters have an issue with it.
Because ingrid fighting for the black eagles is incredibly forced given her personality of a loyal knight. Whether she was unhappy with the Crest system or not isn't something that would matter to her. Edelgards actions she would find reprehensible, so the only thing to do is concentrate on byleth.
Felix: Leave my sight!
Rodrigue: *Dies*
Freudia it was so fitting 😂😂
10:25
Flayn: Professor, why?! Do you not see the cruelty of this?
Byleth: NO HESITATION
-Sylvain, Marianne and Lysithea have fairly solid reasons to fight to destroy crests.
-Ashe has good reason since he lost his father bc of the church. So does Annette.
-Alois and Leonie's loyalty was always with Jeralt so I mean.. I guess that's a reason
-Lorenz could go either way given his family benefits with siding with the empire I think???
-Mercie, Ingrid, Felix, Ignatz, Raphael and Manuela* make very little sense to me. What are they doing there. Liking Byleth shouldn't be enough to leave their homes.
-Hanneman is suuper confusing since he literally abandoned his old life to study crests, but his supports with Edelgard sort of explain why he's there so ok I suppose.
-Shamir is a mercenary and is on her own side so she can do whatever she wants.
*Edit: lmao I completely forgot Manuela is from the empire in the first place. My bad.
Y'all make a pretty good point about about Mercie too
Manuela has the opera company, to be fair
My father abandon me for the Church? That's unacceptable 😡
Honestly Felix on BE feels like a lot more thought went into it than other characters
With Mercedes siding with the empire, it seems possible for me to see her do, just highly unlikely. Mercedes suffers under the crest system, separated from her brother, and her adoptive father wishes to use her for her crest and marriage. These are reasons that could make her side with Edelgard and the empire. Also, her brother sided with the empire. However, Mercedes and her mother live at a church in the kingdom and received help after fleeing from House Bartels so this makes it unlikely that she would turn away from the church. Also, with her gentle personality and care for people, I doubt she agrees with how Edelgard execute her methods.
Manuela is from the Empire, she doesn't leave her home, she stays to fight for it.
Hanneman...idk what's confusing to you about it. He literally explains in his supports with Edelgard that the reason he abandonded his old life is because he hates nobility and he's studying crests to get rid of them forever (by making them accessible to everyone). His goals are 100% in line with Edelgard's, and he even admits that he sees her as a second chance to save his sister.
5:55 this is probably the most ironic line coming from this character
8:25 Whoa! You can basically move anywhere!
i’m 100% sure that the worst thing you can do is putting mercedes vs annette and sylvain vs felix up against each other. it’s just heartbreaking to watch them fight and eventually kill their best friend. if you’re gonna recruit one you have to recruit them both
personally, i’d say the same for hilda and marianne but you can’t even recruit hilda in CF :(
Lynhardt vs Caspar is also soul crushing
It’s cool to see a side a Felix where he struggles to kill the people he cares about and then there’s his father
god seteth and flayn’s dialogue if you kill them literally made me cry, this is why I made sure I spared them
Flayn: You shall not pass!
Gandalf: That's my line!!
Missing: everything involving Lysithea, Edelgard, and Seiros... which is actually a lot. Note: I appreciate you going out of your way to do this for us though.
I have a seperate 11 minute video only for edelgard: czcams.com/video/oMe93PZYQhM/video.html
seiros will also be a seperate video
MELOO so Seiros will be a future video? Very well then.
personally i am loving this route. i recruited everyone and for some reason i really enjoy watching their turmoil about this choice. to me its just proof at how well written these characters all are ;3
The moment when Seteth died and leaves Flayn behind, just destroyed me. It. Just. Destroyed. Me.
"Don't you see the cruelty in this?"
"NO HESITATION"
Sylvain's talk with Felix and Ingrid before he is about to die by their hands is the saddest thing in the entire game for me.
And then Byleth comes along and he just deadass says that he regrets not wooing her lmao
So apparently, and I did not know this, there is one unique interaction that can occur during the Tailtean plains where Dedue and Dimitri will die in each other's arms if Dedue is not given the opportunity to transform before he or Dimitri falls in battle.
But unfortunately there are not any other interactions like this, at least not in my experience.
Keeping Hilda alive through the entire Derdriu mission, keeping Cyril, Catherine, or Gilbert alive during the final mission. This is something that I recall having more of an impact in previous Fire Emblem games. Especially choosing whether or not to kill an important character after you've bested them in combat or whether to trust a character and allow them to join you. It would have been interesting to see something like this in 3H and how it could've maybe changed the events of the plot, even if subtly.
Ingrid: Sylvain I dont care how hot you think Edelgard or The Professor are, this isnt funny.
Sylvain: this is nothing like that, the crest system has made my life miserable up to now. I honestly believe in Edelgard's ideals
Yup. Sylvain is a true believer in the cause.
What bugs the hell out of me is that Alois thinks that Jeralt cared about the monastery/rhea/the church over his son/daughter.
3:42 nothing like killing a childhood best friend for creating strong bonds
Lol
1:20 the most OP Training Sword that ever lived
Wow, Ingrid seemed really mad at Sylvain
Bruh she always mad at sylvain lmao
why is shamir so amazing
having played BL first, i felt physical pain when i had byleth kill ashe in my BE run like. i heard him say that line and i had to pause for moment bc i was so overwhelmed
for me the one of Raphael and Ignatz was the most painful my dear golden deer boys
“Jeralt, I did it, I ate the leftovers.”
I'm glad Shamir wised up and joined the Empire before Catherine could've stabbed her in the back the same way she did to Christophe.
Christope had it coming. He was a good man, and was tricked into thinking he was doing the right thing but he was still a conspirator at the end of the day. He should of known better.
If we draw parallels, I wonder if Catherine also found an elaborate letter with detailed about Rhea's assassination on Christophe's belongings.
Catherine did it to save her own ass. She's a coward.
I have allways felt bad
Felix is getting criticism from everyone in the Kingdom.
@Ben Bampton
But it didn't feel out of place.
He does hate dimitri because he know the type of person he is.
He hates his father for saying his brother "died like a true knight"
Picking crimson flower as your first road in a a nutshell: *PAIN*
I love how they handwave out of character betrayals as "believing in the professor"
I played Blue Lions in my first playthrough. Then went Black Eagles Empire route with a recruited Felix and omg was that rough D':
Dedue: it is shame i thought you would come to appreciate jis majesty perspective
Byleth: i dont even know dimitri perspective and why hes soo angry last time we talked was 5 years ago.
Student: "Professor, which of us should take the Wyvern Lord exam?"
Professor: "YES."
I love how civil Alois and Shamir's conversation is
and THIS is why i recruited everyone i could from the blue lions house when i went down edelgard’s route 😭 no doubt that the blue lions house really does bring out the most emotion in you. forever my favorite house
I didn’t know Alois could be an enemy in the Black Eagles path. 😱 on my first BE play through he was part of my army so I assumed he went wherever Byleth chose to go in order to keep his promise to Jeralt
Annette and Mercie just torn my heart apart.
6:27 poor girl, spends basically her whole life training to see her father, yet ends up on opposite sides of the battlefield.
Does Flayn battle quote with Byleth change if you kill Seteth?
Also Recruited Alois vs Shamir?
When Annete and Mercedes talked to each other, my heart got broken 😭
Felix and Ingrid gained support points for killing their childhood friend, that’s so sad
I cant watch this. Thanks so much for your dedication and the upload but god damn I just cant.
I've seen almost all of these conversations bc I love Edelgard and only took her route ever since I got the game (started my 4th or 5th cycle today) but it still breaks my heart :(
12:10 HES JUST A BABY!!!!!
This is why I always recruited every character possible on every route, and spared/avoided those I could. The sadness would have been too much for me.
