      The optimal way of recruiting students is to raise their support their levels via mission assistance, eating together, and giving gifts to name a few. Once they reach support level B, they have a 20% chance roughly of joining you when the next week starts. The only problem is certain units like Ferdinand and Caspar have B supports locked until part 2, so those you will have to grind for.

      In my second run, after learning more about my 3 kills; Ashe, Mercedes, and Shamir, I decided to recruit everyone, and I did, except for Raphael (Heavy armor is useless on Byleth).
      TBH, Shamir's statements in chapter 4 and Mercedes's religious obsession (and voice) left a bad taste in my mouth, but I ended up liking them regardless. I actually paired them with the other CF exclusive characters, Hubert and Jeritza, respectively.

    For all of you saying how lysethia has meaningless supports, you ought to reconsider. Lysethia is a character who has been burdened by these two crests, they give her some great power but, at the same time, they shorten her lifespan. All of her support tackle 1 of 3 themes: How other people keep looking into the future (which she despises since she does not have one), how people treat her as a child (where we learn she does not have the luxury to be treated as such since she will die young), and how talented she is (which bothers her to an extreme since she has gotten to where she stands by sheer effort and not talent).
    So yeah, Lysethia is a pretty deep character who may be a bit annoying due to how she treats others but is truly endearing

      I truly think its poetic that the lazy and apathetic slacker would be the most ardent supporter of their leader who would fight to the death when no-one else would think she would.
      Personally I think they complement each other well, they are both easy going but while Claude is industrious and radical in his mindset and ambitions, Hilda is lazy but efficient and good at management. They complement one another and I think that Hilda is the best ‘retainer’ character to her respective House Lord. (Possibly more if you choose to pair them which I did because they go together really well.)
      Unlike Hubert or Dedue she doesn’t enable a leader of questionable morals or sanity but instead supports his ideas as a friend and colleague.

      Yeah man, this stuff is totally new to me. The way that they can use perspective to turn your students and allies from good friends into enemies you had to kill is an amazing thing. They tried with Ryoma and Xander, but failed. Other morally grey villains like Brunnya, Selena, that one senator from Radiant Dawn that I can’t remember, killing them was easy because there were no connections with their characters and personalities, you couldn’t get to know them before you fought them and there was no way to save them. That said, really like the way that the Fire Emblem series is moving, considering they fixed the major flaws the recent games had. For example, the fan service was greatly toned down, there wasn’t a specific character whose personality I hated, or at least one whom I refused to use simply because I hate their character, and the levelling and promotion system, as well as skills, actually balanced in this game. Now to wait 8 months for the story expansion...

    • @HollowGolem
      @HollowGolem Před 4 lety +5

      @chu chu You really should. It fills in so much of the backstory on what Edel's doing, why she's doing it, and how much of what goes down isn't even her doing (since she has a rogue faction within her army that she's sort of forced to ally with, a faction filled with people she hates).
      Just recruit everyone and you're fine. You can avoid Hilda, spare Claude, spare Flayn, spare Seteth... hell, I even just avoided Cyril so I didn't kill him (you pretty much have to kill Catharine, though. That bitch is crazy).
      Edel even offers terms of surrender that Rhea refuses in the end. Edel's route is really sad, because you get to watch the church hang Dimitri out to dry and use him as a meatshield. Rhea is definitely the most villainouse of the faction heads, even above and beyond Edelgarde. Even in the church route, Rhea's a real bitch.

    • @KendrixTermina
      @KendrixTermina Před 4 lety +6

      @@HollowGolem Claude totally calls that Rhea's evil, too, so it's not just Edelgard.
      Indeed he even goes further /believes her to be responsible for all the xenophobia all around (and here you thought taking in Cyril and Shamir was like her one redeeming quality) .
      Though he deals with the church via manipulation/ installing Byleth as a figurehead, and hence isn't forced to go *through* any of them (ie, Catherine and Cyrill survive) though his methods are technically slimier, in the end he and Edelgard were each simply using the tools they had at their disposal.
      (thing with Claude is he's got a very devious calculating mind but his parents are alive and ruling the Alliance is just his side gig to a grander scheme, so he doesn't have as much of an edge or investent as the other two, so he'll prefer softer methods and consistently bails if things go sour which had both advantages and drawbacks)
      He only rescues Rhea to press her for information (that being the one scene where Claude gets close to sounding genuinely angry) and then points her at twsitd so they destroy each other, it's made very clear that he's only using the church for political expedience
      Given her extreme backstory you find out in the golden deer route (her whole civilization was killed) you can understand why Rhea's the way she is, it's sad, sympathetic maybe and she's certainly fleshed out as a very multilayered antagonist, but ultimately she's been taking out her however justified anger at like 11 evil humans on 30-40 generations of a whole country and her motivation, though very human, is 100% selfish (to keep control of humans because she hates/fears them deep down, and to revive Sothis) whereas whatever faults Edelgard may have, her motivations are altruistic.
      Even If you S support her she basically admits to her crimes and of never having cared about byleth as their own person in the beginning - it's not that she's not evil, you simply redeem her/stop her being evil if you're willing to put up with being married to her in return... I prefer stopping her with a sword tbh
      In the end the thing is that everyone involved was acting on the information they had and none had the full story (another good example is Seteth & Flayn being unaware of the crap Rhea was pulling while Edelgard didn't know they were innocent, meanwhile poor Dimitri has no clue about anything at all but he still manages to know/find out all that super-disturbing business with Edelgard's mother, plus his route contains a lot of worldbuilding lore dumps) - Claude comes the closest to decihering the whole picture but he's still missing important pieces and only gets there in the very end. Unless you've seen all four routes you have no clue what's going in
      I mean it's not like I don't feel sorry for Dimitri. While the others more or less always end the same way (Claude flees, or attempts to, Edelgard chooses to go down fighting once cornered) Dimitri manages to get more or less 4 fairly different outcomes all of which are terrible, the one where he lives might actually be the one that put him through the wringer most of all, he just eventually manages to turn the corner once Byleth gets back. Poor dude never gets a break, it's like his parents forgot to invite Maleficent to his birthday feast.
      But he simply went after the wrong person, not even necessarily through any fault of his own.

      I mean they certainly are very close, she's his right-hand woman for the most part (for some reason she's recruitable in Blue Lions though which makes no sense to me but ok) but I've always seen them as more best friends. Hilda in particular is very flirty and affectionate and would say something like "my dear old Claude" even if he was just her friend, I think. But I do also agree that barring Byleth coming in and stealing one of them away, Claude and Hilda would end up together. On Claude's part most of his "romantic" supports are crap and more platonic than romantic anyway except for Petra (which wouldn't happen if, canonically, Petra remains with the empire, as I think she unfortunately does :( sadness) and MAYBE Lysithea, if we're pushing it (those two give off such strong sibling energy though... especially with how he treats her like a little kid just to annoy her, it's such a big brother thing to do). But that's just my perspective on all that, I personally like how this game focused more on friendship than on romance unlike the past games.
