as soon as the mechanism gets seized up, the bypass will become faster and cleaner then using the key. (as this bypasses one of the mechanism that can be seized, while the key has to interact with at least the core and the locking system)

@Josh derp Which is kinda funny considering a disk detainer lock is in no way hard to produce or high tech. The original ABLOY classic disk lock patent is from 1910's and as such decades expired. Heck many of the newer cores are also decades expired. On top of that instead of doing exact shear surfaces on pins one is pretty much just stamping out the lock disks and stacking them. Sure it has to be stamped to good tolerance, but stamping is a cheap and very well mass production suitable process to produce repeatable parts in good tolerance. Same with the spacers between the locking disks again one can stamp them out.
with modern automation and hoppers full of ready stamped disks.... assembling the disk stack is just dropping in disks one after another, again very suitable for mass production.
So Walmart completely could offer as cheap simple disk detainers. I would say it might be actually easier to make a cheap good disk detainer since it involves less stuff like drilling multiple exact holes in exact places to exact depts with good tolerances. The pin tumbler lock body is much more complex than a classic disk lock body. All the disk lock needs is a big drilled hole to drop the core in and cut in locking groove in to which the sidebar locks in preventing rotation. Then one just needs the core plug in which the disks ride and has the other side of the sidebars locking surface. It is actually the most complex part, but even that is in the end rather simple part with no complex geometries.

@@aritakalo8011 I guess they would not be that hard to make if you start from scratch building a lock making company. The old companies have capacities to mass produce cheap locks with little changes to the design. Big changes would cost them money, and since people still buy the outdated stuff in a new package they'll keep doing it.

Hello LPL, Long time fan here. I figured out the top row of locks in this video you can do without even the comb pick. just a regular hook inserted towards the pins to hook the mechanism on one side then take it out and flip it and hook it going the other way and it will pop right open.
