- Ever seen a person’s weapon and assumed something about how they play? Well, you’re not alone. In fact, most weapons in TF2 hold a certain stereotype. This series of videos aims to go over some of the most well-known weapon stereotypes in TF2.
Please keep in mind that I’m not saying that anyone who uses a certain weapon is a certain type of person. These videos are for fun. Sorry if I hurt your feelings or something.
This episode we’ll be talking about the soldier, aka literally everybody’s main/secondary. There are some…let’s just say “controversial” weapons this time around, so get your popcorn.

KiwiKitty I always thought of the Original as being the super ultra mega sweaty Tryhard launcher. Like, the soldiers I see using it are usually top-scoring team carriers who take this game way too seriously. (or maybe that's just my pocket soldier, either way, I'm conditioned to follow the sound of the Original when I am medic)

Direct Hit Soldiers that know what they're doing are terrifying.
I used original, not because of those types, but because it reminded me of DOOM.

i'm the cow mangler soldier and yeah i tend to use the charge shot a lot, it's super satisfying to set people on fire as a soldier, especially if u fire that charge shot into a group like when ur defending against a cart push, also it's a good way to take out sentry nests since the charge shot disables engie buildings for 4 seconds

The direct hit ain't that bad it's gotten me out of plenty of situations. Especially when playing the Brazil king of the hill map I dunno why but that map brings out all the scout players.
Gotta remember that the equalizer also used to have the Escape Plan's buff along with its current damage buff at low hp

i noticed a stereotype for the stock shovel recently, and that is the people who have never heard of tf2, saw some random trolldier montage and installs the game thinking that the shovel is some god-tier war machine that insta-kills every class
I use the conch because I like to think I'm a team player but really I just hate taking chip damage and not being at full health. also because it means soldiers can't get the one hit of of me allot of the time.

It kind of sucks that most people associate it with "Bad Box Soldier", since "Support Soldier" (Conch+Whip) is arguably more common than the former. I run that all the time on maps where there isn't much room to rocket jump.
i see the former more often, which is a shame. I think default shotgun compliments the black box more due to it's lack of a fourth rocket, having the conch with the black box seems redundant to me. I mean you already get health regen as a passive and you get tons of health back when you activate it, the up to 20 hp you get while firing hardly seems worth having one less rocket.

half zatoichi conch soldier is underrated, basically makes you a demo knight when you run out of amo
Throw in a rocket jumper and you have a highly mobile spy with a chad version of the kunai and health regen
Also killing another zatoichi user while rare fills your banner instantly
Melee black box
I feel like the Liberty launcher was made more for juggling opponents. The extra rocket and faster projectile speed are perfect for keeping your enemy in the air against their will. I feel it is strange how nobody's seen this yet.

Splash damage is a key aspect of the soldier, although direct hit is good, there is a reason you don’t see it in sixes or highlander that much
I use the Cow Mangler, and only the Mangler, I know it isn't the best launcher, but I don't care, it was literally the very first weapon drop I ever got when I first started playing tf2, so it has sentimental value to me

I used the air strike because the flurry of rockets feels satisfying I even named it perfection at its finest... now.... I use it ironically and I get more kills than I usually would my level of savant-ness is sometimes confusing and disappointing

As a medic main, myself, I don't really mind it as much, personally. I mean, I find a bad Black Box soldier is probably still gonna die anyway, even with the healing they get from it (hell, even from a medic healing them as bad soldiers tend to play extremely recklessly, not even waiting for a med and haven't really gotten down the skill needed to Rocket Jump away from danger if things go south). I feel it's a crutch for new/bad players, but not as frustrating to deal with as spy's "LEL FUCK SUBTLETY I'LL JUST GET AWAY WITH EVERYTHING LOLOLOLOLOLOL" Dead Ringer or the "I can shoot straight up and probably still have it count as a headshot to you" Huntsman.

Equalizer doesn't have the Marked For Death when holding it, so that is why people use it to taunt kill more than the Escape plan.

I think the direct hit has it's uses, like insta-killing scouts and random spies who accidentally step in front of you.
Also, now that I've used it I can't use the stock because the stock rockets are too slow for me.
@Wooosh As someone who uses the direct hit a lot I disagree. Projectile speed is definitely still a factor.
I can't aim with the direct hit, but I was so bad at aiming before the lack of splash damage doesn't affect me.
The only thing I can aim are engie's shotgun and the Detonator

As a medic main, seeing a batt's backup soldier is like a saving grace to me in casual pubs.
I will always try to keep them alive so they can activate what is basically a team-orienated vaccinator.

I 100% fall into the cow mangler stereotype. But charged shots are just so satisfying it's hard to not use it.
I use the air strike and gunboats with the escape plan to move at the speed of light and bomb people with a lot of rockets. I also use it for trollider like you said but also the extra clip size after kills is great for doing the fastest and largest jumps it's INSANE

Oh I know I'm terrible at the game, I just use the Direct Hit for the faster rocket speed to quickly keep hitting 59 damage rockets.

I actually like to use air strike without base jumper, and have the battalions backup on instead. One of my favorite things to do is just jump up over cover and carpet bomb the enemy push.
