Match 1: 7:41
Match 2: 14:14
Match 3: 23:26
Match 4: 37:09
Match 5: 44:44 - Hry
Seth in church 14:11 "that Lord is good" The lord is good"
R1 Sideboarding. Worship does not stop Grey Merchant, since Grey Merchant does loss of life, not damage.
13:41 - A lord is lethal thanks to arena. - (nevermind, you figure that one out)
As someone who used to be mocked at my LGS for playing spirits, having the new lord is going to make me much more respected.
Might actually have a legit deck now!
You have no idea how old you made me feel when you said Mirrodin was 15 years ago
This deck is too spooky
I love this deck so much! Great vid
Thanks!
23:17 "No force of wills in modern" seth says as I am looking at my disrupting shoals
but yeah, no real force of wills
Really? Really? Opponent? Spell snare, really? Mreh.
I love it
This is pretty fun to watch as I'm currently sleeving my new bant spirits deck hahaha. So stoked
It's a fun deck!
Damn this deck looks sick. Super fun to play
Yes! Called it a few instant deck techs ago :)
Preach it Seth! “The lord is good!”
I like watching control match ups, there super technical a lot of the time. I would love if you could upload them anyway!
I love the reference in the thumbnail
Oh, man... there at the end, saying "Mirrodin is 15 years old."
Time flies, I guess.
Yeah, pretty crazy.
Clique can fizzle mirracle triggers; so the deck actually can cover terminus
Matches: 7:41
You're a god damn hero
ty
I love BOP and Heirarch. But i also love serum visions. This deck has a lot of options
Gotta love Spirits
23:15 You accidentally edited the best part out. ("Draw for the turn.... Supreme Phantome! WOOOOooooo HOOOOOoooo! etc")
Was gonna buy playset of foil supreme phantom, price stop dropping and start creeping back up after this video... Thank Seth!
That Jeskai player drew insanely well.
No Blood Moon? Who are you and where is Seth?!!!
I love how seth says the black devotion deck has nothing to bear worship even though Gary beats worship
Time to start running supreme verdict main deck.
19:52 Rolled a nat 1.
Seth sounds like a tv evangelist lol. "The lord is good!"
My absolute favorite deck. Really wish I still had it but had to sell it for important reasons. Really want to rebuild it :)
"Selesnya Spirits" at the end there
This is almost exactly what i built earlier today. neat.
Sweet!
I think grabbing basics all the time is a little ambitious against decks that show path or field of ruins. I'm only like 20 minutes in and it bit you twice :p
I noticed the new card backs at 17:22
I WANTED ESPER SPIRITS. But I'll take what I can get, great vid as always Seth.
Question, why not Eidolon of Rhetoric instead of thalia? Its one more mana but its also a spirit and much much more difficult to remove since it's a 1/4 and can get hexproof.
Scott Vogel too slow against Storm on the draw, maybe?
They do entirely different things?
Myztik for the matchups they are for, not really.
Exactly, and Eidolon does it better.
But it's also one more mana, which is highly relevant
It hypes me up when he gets hyped when an opponent scoops.
remember that one that seth killed himself by cracking a fetchland
I do.
...and thought that his opponent scooped 😏
searches up super budget spirits, gets this at the top
I run blue white spirits and I use Nebelgast Herald and Vapor Snags. Tempo plays are key and it dominates.
Thank you for doing this deck! I knew you were excited about the new spirits. I would advise 21 lands and 2 geist. It doesn’t fly but is usually a 4/4 thanks to the lord so it can survive pretty well. Nebelgast herald is a good sideboard against Eldrazi, Jund, Hollow One and other creature based decks.
Nebelghast seems interesting. It is good against big creatures, that's for sure.
Human, Death Shadow, Jund, Elves, Wurmcoil engine, Eldrazi, Griselbrand, Kiln Fiend, green Titan... So much fun to deny their attacks for 2-3 turns or attack for lethal.
This is my deck for modern since shadows block.been waiting to see what changes the lord would make to the list. I do wonder why no geist of saint traft in the new list as a one or two of in the main
I've seen some builds playing Geist. I think it tends to die a lot in combat, which makes me not like it as much, but it can be very good on turn two, especially against control decks.
I guess it depends on the meta, but thats usually why you run 1-2 steel of the godhead (in the old list at least). It is bad when you coco into multiples though, which the new lord is not
Was curious how good a spirits deck would be with lingering souls and/or spectral procession.
Me too. Trying out a UW/Epser list is going to happen before long.
Magic Aids played a UW Spirites deck with prossetion that was pretty good.
Aww Bant?! :-(
Gimme Esper, I want that sweet Lingering Souls value!
So ready for this.
Update: Buying this deck immediately
You got 1200$ lying around for magic cards?
Check out Esper Spirits here www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/660785
FluxxedGames without lands and heiarchs it is about 150 and a lot of us have those already
Cool list! Thank you.
FluxxedGames haha yeah I do actually I take advantage of living at home in between semesters and I save a lot up haha
Seth, any chance we will see a budget Spirits deck for modern soon? I’d love it.
It's on the list!
MTGGoldfish sweet!
worship does not stop dying by loss of life.
in reference to thinking about bringing it in match 1
23:00 where does phantom come from?
alex B. Opponent played the Cryptic Command during upkeep; phantom is his draw for the turn.
(He was a little overzealous with the editing so there aren't any frames of it actually sitting in his hand before he casts it. I was also confused and had to rewind it a few times...)
Nice deck, is there any room for Tamiyo, Field Researcher?
Hmm, I could see Tamiyo on the top end. Having a bunch of evasive creatures makes it a good card draw engine, could help out against control.
I just built Bant company for a friend, and Tamiyo, Field Researcher is a complete bomb. The card advantage Engine is to strong paired with the tapping of opponents creatures makes for great opening to win the game against control and creature decks. The only problem i have with her is she’s extremely bad against combo/tron, but she makes up for it in other matchups.
Seth where did the did the name “Saffron Olive” come from?
Reid’s Beads The jank gods whispered it into his ear one night, telling him to realize his true calling.
I think it had something to do with a band(?). I think that was the story. Everyone in a band Seth was apart of had a name with Saffron in it and he wanted SaffronOlive(?).
From a stream, I think he said the Saffron part came from a nickname his elderly neighbour gave him, and the Olive part was from his band that had names ending with some kind of food. Or possibly other way around.
TLDR is He was part of a band that was something olives and his neighbor (apartment?) was a vet that for some unknown reason called him saffron
Awfully Fun MTG p
for the elves match, the 2 mana lord you might look for here is the new one from M19. Elvish Clancaller. pumps and can search for another card named Elvish Clancaller and puts it on the battlefield. although I think it isn't that great.
that being said, Bant spirits looks pretty legit. would love to play this deck.
when seth says pump i now feel unconfortable XD
woah, the chat window/decklist at the start of round 1 game 1. How did you guys make a program that automatically fits itself to the chat window size like that?
(@richard, probably)
It doesn't fit automatically (although the size is based on the size of the MTGO chat window and it can be adjusted manually).
Check out my Esper Spirits Deck!!! www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/660785
Looks sweet!
18:47 Seth calls JTMS the bad Jace. What a world.
Nick Joseph lol, but he meant it in the sense of being a bad use of a Jace, since there'd only be one activation before dying. Not in the sense of JTMS is a bad Jace card in general.
At 23:13, when you edited away the draw step and Supreme Pizza miraculously appeared on the stack, I got very confused.
Is CoCo and mana dorks just superior to aether vial and card draw? Green seems really unneeded and its not even in the SB. Genuinely asking since I don't play modern really.
I think the content is amazing...
Thanks!
Would love to see you play the esper and maybe straight U/W versions to compare them
Check out Esper Spirits here www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/660785
Yeah, I'm hoping to try out the other builds too!
Seth what do you think about putting 4 Supreme Phantom, 4 Favorable winds and 4 Drogskol captain in the main board for a UW spirit deck?
Mark Sean Ace Gadayan You should try that, splashing black for lingering souls is also worth considering.
Hey seth I don´t really do spirits at all but I feel like in the esper version can maybe run a moonlit strider in the sideboard. It seems very good against control as it saves a creature and has recursion. Then again there probably is a better card out there I was just browsing soulshift cards to see if any would be good in spirits.
I still want to brew esper. lingering souls got a huge boost
The thing is while lingering souls is a great card, so is coco, and consensus seem to favor coco in this instance
Alejandro Arturo Pumpido im a big fan of collective brutality and lingering souls interaction. The tribe has so much distruption already i hope the esper version goes well
I think that by just replacing the mana dorks with though sizes and collective brutalities (tho is better to be playing a guy on t2) and the cocos for lingering souls, you will have a very strong esper build. Still, you should weight that vs the speed, consistency and power that green and cocos provide.
I've been testing a esper build with LS and using vial instead of coco, and I like it a lot more and i think it has a better sideboard plan, I think esper and UW are going to be the new best builds of the deck
check out my Esper Spirits
"We played Spirits in the past in Budget Magic..."
In the PAST indeed.
How does Bant compare to Esper spirits?
Um, at 14:54, couldn't you have countered the spell snare with wanderer?
Could you make a budget version of this deck? I am looking into building one of these but I don’t have the money
Budget Spirits will definitely be coming.
Can’t tell you how much I love your techs. Thank you
but no Geist of saint traft?
also Mausoleum wanderer looks great, always been a huge fan of Judge's familiar and Cursecatcher
I think Geist of Saint Traftmight of helped with the control mackup
I feel like it dies a lot in other matchups, but it could help against control. Maybe a sideboard option?
yeah that's what I been seeing most of the time. It's been seeing 2 in the side board. If there's not 1 or 2 in the main deck.
www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1189596#paper like with this deck.
Hey Wizards, Noble Hierarch needs a reprint!
No goose of saint traft?
25:58 - 26:50 "No wrath" count - 10
How come Favorable Winds was not in the deck?
Seth what do you think about this deck ? 3 electrolyze, 3 Talrand, Sky summoner, 3 favorable winds, 4 remand, 4 izzet charm, 4 serum vision, 4 Kira, Great glass-spinner, 4 Phantasmal image, 4 Bloodwater entity, 3 Vendillon clique, 3 mountains, 5 islands, 4 scalding tarn, 4 sulfur falls, 4 spirebluff canal / SB : 3 Squelch, 3 Blood moon, 3 Tormod's crypt, 3 Smash to Smithereens, 3 Negate
Seems interesting. Having so many legends might be clunky. Maybe add in Faithless Looting too for more filtering (alongside Iiizet Charm). Also, is Squelch for anything specific? I've tried it a few time and it feels like it gets stuck in hand a lot.
Squelch is very good against Tron, like counter expedition map ability or Karn or Ugin ability
AskenSadik Probably wants bolts, deck looks sweet!
I love you and your videos but as a Jeskai player that has lost to my Spirits friend so much I loved seeing Jeskai win :o also yeah I think Baneslayer was the right choice there. Helix would kill one of your spirits but baneslayer closes out games so fast
Me: wow this looks pretty cool
*looks at price tag *
Me: HOLLY SHI-
Friggin modern legacy 😂
Boss guy Dude Honestly just proxy the lands and cards like Noble and EE. That's what I do and it makes so many decks much more affordable.
There's a handful of cards that make it expensive, unfortunately. Thankfully the Spirits themselves are pretty cheap, so we'll probably have a budget version before super long.
Not sure if you follow a MTG CZcamsr called Magic Aids, but he also posted a U/W Spirit deck the same time Seth uploaded this video and it's much more affordable since it's only two colors, doesn't have an absurd 3 color mana base, and doesn't run the expensive green cards like Collected Company and Noble Heirarch (which is too damn expensive as a mana dork, since I would run birds of paradise anyways).
And honestly I just prefer U/W spirits over bant spirits anyways so call me biased lol.
Nice flooded strand
Why no Bygone Bishop?
Seth u should try esper. I haven’t heard anyone else as high on esper colors as you have been. Mostly the discussion has been bant vs blue/white.
Id love a budget version
I expect we'll revisit budget spirits before long (probably straight UW).
FUCKIN SPIRIIIIIIIIIIIITS YEEEEEEEEEEES :DDDDDDD they’re my fave tribe and I’m so hype for this
Surprised there was no Geist of Saint Traft at all in this deck
Vesperia 566 geist isn't really great unless u have a board of lords or playing against control, probably won't but interactive cards than geist
Watching you play my favorite decks hurts my soul. Misplays up the wazoo
I think I would have played some tormod’s spirit in the main deck
what's with the art on windswept heath and flooded strand?
Hmm, I didn't notice. Is it weird?
just in the deck tech.
Please do Esper Spirits!!!!
Favorable winds?
Could work.
It doesn't get hit with the collected company, think it works better in the blue white build :)
I don´t like it as all the other cards to me seem better and winds doesn´t do anything by itself. It could be a great sideboard card however.
Winds is just really for budget builds of the deck :)
NOOOOO SAFFRION! ESPER! ESPER SPIRITS!
Esper's on the list!
MTGGoldfish - Maybe even Jeskai Spirits, splashing red for Bolt.
Jeskai is an established deck though. Why would you splash for bolt when you could splash for push or something? Spirits has few spell slots even without Vial, probably want to put that towards actually kill stuff spells.
Let's try esper next!!
It's on my list!
Try out UR Spirits in Standard, with Protean Raider, Tilonalli's Skinshifter, Vizier of Many Faces.
Quick question.... it's bant, and has lords, where in the world are the hardened scales?
This Lord heavy deck slings out the +1/+1 counters
Michael Helton it was a static +1/+1 buff, not counters
Sadly, a lord effect is a static +1/+1 buff for your creatures, and it is not a counter (it would have said for example: your spirits enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on them). So this wouldnt work with hardened scales.
Also, if a lord gets removed, the buff goes away as well, as opposed to a +1/+1 counter, which stays on a creature until the creature dies or an effect specifically removes it.
Honor of the pure then
Michael Helton you don't tap out on turn 2 for an enchantment that does little.
Michael Helton thats what new spirit lord is for. I don't think there are enough spots in bant spirits for honor but maybe Favorable winds in esper spirits? Making lingering souls into huge threats
Favorable winds to make it 12 lords
Am I one of the few who felt that the green splash slowed this deck down quite a bit? Magic_aids dropped an Azorius spirits build went 4-1 and made the deck much more efficient
Excuse me if the reason is obvious, but why no aether vial ?
That's what the green splash is for (in the form of Collected Company + mana dorks) is for. The UW version wants Vial, with green you don't need it, a bit like Merfolk vs Elves.
Generally it's either Aether Vial or Collected Company, since they make each other worse. I think straight UW Spirits or Esper Spirits would definitely want Aether Vial.
MTGGoldfish yeah i forgot about the coco part
Please play the esper version with vial, that's what I'm playing collective brutality discard lingering souls!
14:52 why not sac the wanderer so that the supreme phantom could resolve?
Probably worthwhile, although having Mausoleum Wanderer on the battlefield is pretty nice against control.
I'd lose all of the green, and simplify the mana as white/blue. Collected Company is really the only reason to consider green, but by losing 4 Noble Hierarch, 1 Bird of Paradise, and 4 Collected Company, you free up a whopping 9 slots in addition to easing the mana sensitivity of a 3 color deck. Now what you do with those 9 freed up slots is up to you. I'd probably up my Phantasmal Image count to 3 by adding 1 more, while adding 2 Remorseful Cleric to the mainboard, 2 Dusk to Dawn to control your opponent's board while allowing for recursion for your creatures as a sort of an on-color reverse Collected Company. Finally, I'd add 2 Declaration of Stone, 1 Detention Sphere, and 1 Sphinx's Revelation to bring us up to 9 cards replaced. The non-spirit utility creatures can easily be replaced with on color non creature spells too, while still maintaining the "spirit" of the deck's theme. Thoughts? Any other suggestions ?
Those seem like good options for UW. Not sure about Sphinx's Revelation. Having some card draw would be nice, but I'm not sure we have enough lands.
MTGGoldfish For card draw, Distant Melody is awesome with tribal decks, though the spirit Bishop (from Kaladesh I believe) can help draw cards through the investigate mechanic, all while contributing to the spirit theme with evasion.
Hey Seth, please make a video with a UW aether vial competitive list, please.
I plan to!
Santiago Jaramillo Villa And when he is in uw the black splash for Lingering souls isn't that far away.
Magic Aids made one recently
And Richard said the new lord was bad... the only problem now is that Seth keeps spiking up the prices of cards, hahaha.
4 color spirit, this deck cutting ramp for lingering souls... Maybe idk though I just feel like the ramp wasn't really with it would probably want 3 souls and 2 more 2 drops.
Four-color could be fun!
Why play 4c when you can play 5c?
MTGGoldfish You could run a Mana base more akin to the humans Mana base!
Sensei buh or 6!
shiser59 We could use a colorless eldrazi spirite as substitute, if we get one that is.
the lack of using clique during draw step bothered me more than it should. still solid games
Didn't we have a spell queller too? Draw step is often idea, but with other options I'm not sure it's as ideal.
that makes sense. i've just been conditioned to expect draw step clique, so when it doesnt happen it seems off haha
Mfw a fringely played modern deck is above 1000$
Fml that is rediculous
The mana base he chose is ridiculous. The spirits themselves are fairly cheap.
yea i know but still lol pretty crazy that the mana base jacks up that high!!
It's crazy that Noble Hierarch did not get reprinted within the last year and there were TWO masters sets!
The UW version is a fraction of the cost and arguably as good or better.
Birds of paradise: Honorary spirit.
Ok so hardened scales wouldn't work.... how about honor of the pure?
Also ghostly prison in SB for go wide strats
Michael Helton not enough of the spirits are white, and i think you'd always want to have spirit instead of an anthem effect in this deck, especially when you have two drop lords.
Also ghostly prison isn't great because this deck is more about beating the other guy down, and three mana on an enchantment which may or may not effect the other player can give them an extra turn or two in which they may draw an answer.
I think Favorable Winds is probably the way to go for an anthem, since it hits everything except Noble Hierarch. Ghostly Prison is an option for go-wide decks is that's a place where help is needed.
