  • @plain6677
    @plain6677 Před 6 lety

    Thank you for doing this deck! I knew you were excited about the new spirits. I would advise 21 lands and 2 geist. It doesn’t fly but is usually a 4/4 thanks to the lord so it can survive pretty well. Nebelgast herald is a good sideboard against Eldrazi, Jund, Hollow One and other creature based decks.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety +1

      Nebelghast seems interesting. It is good against big creatures, that's for sure.

      Human, Death Shadow, Jund, Elves, Wurmcoil engine, Eldrazi, Griselbrand, Kiln Fiend, green Titan... So much fun to deny their attacks for 2-3 turns or attack for lethal.

  • @simpkira

    This is my deck for modern since shadows block.been waiting to see what changes the lord would make to the list. I do wonder why no geist of saint traft in the new list as a one or two of in the main

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety

      I've seen some builds playing Geist. I think it tends to die a lot in combat, which makes me not like it as much, but it can be very good on turn two, especially against control decks.

    • @simpkira
      @simpkira Před 6 lety

      I guess it depends on the meta, but thats usually why you run 1-2 steel of the godhead (in the old list at least). It is bad when you coco into multiples though, which the new lord is not

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety +1

      Hmm, I could see Tamiyo on the top end. Having a bunch of evasive creatures makes it a good card draw engine, could help out against control.

    • @jellytoast5320
      @jellytoast5320 Před 6 lety

      I just built Bant company for a friend, and Tamiyo, Field Researcher is a complete bomb. The card advantage Engine is to strong paired with the tapping of opponents creatures makes for great opening to win the game against control and creature decks. The only problem i have with her is she’s extremely bad against combo/tron, but she makes up for it in other matchups.

    • @awfullyfunmtg
      @awfullyfunmtg Před 6 lety +23

      From a stream, I think he said the Saffron part came from a nickname his elderly neighbour gave him, and the Olive part was from his band that had names ending with some kind of food. Or possibly other way around.

    Hey seth I don´t really do spirits at all but I feel like in the esper version can maybe run a moonlit strider in the sideboard. It seems very good against control as it saves a creature and has recursion. Then again there probably is a better card out there I was just browsing soulshift cards to see if any would be good in spirits.

    • @SilverAlex92
      @SilverAlex92 Před 6 lety +5

      I think that by just replacing the mana dorks with though sizes and collective brutalities (tho is better to be playing a guy on t2) and the cocos for lingering souls, you will have a very strong esper build. Still, you should weight that vs the speed, consistency and power that green and cocos provide.

      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety

      There's a handful of cards that make it expensive, unfortunately. Thankfully the Spirits themselves are pretty cheap, so we'll probably have a budget version before super long.

    • @ReneIsSoCool101Yes
      @ReneIsSoCool101Yes Před 6 lety

      Not sure if you follow a MTG CZcamsr called Magic Aids, but he also posted a U/W Spirit deck the same time Seth uploaded this video and it's much more affordable since it's only two colors, doesn't have an absurd 3 color mana base, and doesn't run the expensive green cards like Collected Company and Noble Heirarch (which is too damn expensive as a mana dork, since I would run birds of paradise anyways).
      And honestly I just prefer U/W spirits over bant spirits anyways so call me biased lol.

      I don´t like it as all the other cards to me seem better and winds doesn´t do anything by itself. It could be a great sideboard card however.

    • @Tyrant372
      @Tyrant372 Před 6 lety

      Jeskai is an established deck though. Why would you splash for bolt when you could splash for push or something? Spirits has few spell slots even without Vial, probably want to put that towards actually kill stuff spells.

    Quick question.... it's bant, and has lords, where in the world are the hardened scales?
    This Lord heavy deck slings out the +1/+1 counters

    • @feralwolf5452
      @feralwolf5452 Před 6 lety

      Michael Helton it was a static +1/+1 buff, not counters

    • @manemaan7403
      @manemaan7403 Před 6 lety +1

      Sadly, a lord effect is a static +1/+1 buff for your creatures, and it is not a counter (it would have said for example: your spirits enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on them). So this wouldnt work with hardened scales.
      Also, if a lord gets removed, the buff goes away as well, as opposed to a +1/+1 counter, which stays on a creature until the creature dies or an effect specifically removes it.

    Excuse me if the reason is obvious, but why no aether vial ?

    • @edogorah1474
      @edogorah1474 Před 6 lety +1

      That's what the green splash is for (in the form of Collected Company + mana dorks) is for. The UW version wants Vial, with green you don't need it, a bit like Merfolk vs Elves.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety +2

      Generally it's either Aether Vial or Collected Company, since they make each other worse. I think straight UW Spirits or Esper Spirits would definitely want Aether Vial.

  • @stalkerstomper3304
    @stalkerstomper3304 Před 6 lety

    I'd lose all of the green, and simplify the mana as white/blue. Collected Company is really the only reason to consider green, but by losing 4 Noble Hierarch, 1 Bird of Paradise, and 4 Collected Company, you free up a whopping 9 slots in addition to easing the mana sensitivity of a 3 color deck. Now what you do with those 9 freed up slots is up to you. I'd probably up my Phantasmal Image count to 3 by adding 1 more, while adding 2 Remorseful Cleric to the mainboard, 2 Dusk to Dawn to control your opponent's board while allowing for recursion for your creatures as a sort of an on-color reverse Collected Company. Finally, I'd add 2 Declaration of Stone, 1 Detention Sphere, and 1 Sphinx's Revelation to bring us up to 9 cards replaced. The non-spirit utility creatures can easily be replaced with on color non creature spells too, while still maintaining the "spirit" of the deck's theme. Thoughts? Any other suggestions ?

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety

      Those seem like good options for UW. Not sure about Sphinx's Revelation. Having some card draw would be nice, but I'm not sure we have enough lands.

    • @stalkerstomper3304
      @stalkerstomper3304 Před 6 lety

      MTGGoldfish For card draw, Distant Melody is awesome with tribal decks, though the spirit Bishop (from Kaladesh I believe) can help draw cards through the investigate mechanic, all while contributing to the spirit theme with evasion.

    • @liamw.1313
      @liamw.1313 Před 6 lety +1

      Michael Helton not enough of the spirits are white, and i think you'd always want to have spirit instead of an anthem effect in this deck, especially when you have two drop lords.

    • @liamw.1313
      @liamw.1313 Před 6 lety

      Also ghostly prison isn't great because this deck is more about beating the other guy down, and three mana on an enchantment which may or may not effect the other player can give them an extra turn or two in which they may draw an answer.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Před 6 lety

      I think Favorable Winds is probably the way to go for an anthem, since it hits everything except Noble Hierarch. Ghostly Prison is an option for go-wide decks is that's a place where help is needed.
