I currently have a harvest right freeze dryer. If you are not mechanically inclined then you should not buy a harvest right. I have taken it apart, worked on it over and over. It is still functioning, however I have purchased a Stay Fresh freeze dryer. Waiting on delivery. Hoping it works ok. Just got off the phone with a $45.00 bill for harvest right to help me fix my freeze dryer. I must admit that youtube videos have helped more. Not saying the help at harvest right was bad but more help was obtained from youtube. The techs at harvest right are trying to fix units that have a design problem. I truly hope they redesign their units. If they don't they won't be around for long. I have had my harvest right for 6 years now and have spent lots of money trying to keep it running. At this time it is running great.
Thanks for the VERY DETAILED review, John! I’m buying the StayFresh. I have had the Harvest Right for over 3 years and have had nothing but issues with it. Customer service was someone reading off a script, not fixing the issue and passing me off to someone one else who was equally incompetent. The StayFresh looks like it has a lot more higher quality components and craftsmanship than the Harvest Right. If no one believes me about the Harvest Right, I have one to sell very cheap.
Currently, Harvest Right is including their industrial pump at no extra charge. So Stay Fresh is $795 more, for the same comparable unit. That is disappointing They need to match Harvest Right's savings.

Good video, thanks. And, I just learned that there are other options for freeze dryers besides Harvest Right. How long has Stay Fresh been in business?
awesome. with tax and the industrial pump that i want, it's a cool $4k. imo totally worth it. i am saving up and hope to purchase next yr. i was waiting for your freeze dry video!!! this one is WAY better than that other company from the hrs of research ive done. love it john!! u look cute in this too!
I would love to purchase one. I been looking at them for a couple of years, but I just don't have the funds for one. I just found out I have osteoporosis, and started on both Estradiol and progesterone. They are expensive on my part D I am also on two thyroid meds as well, and not covered under insurance, so I will have to use one of those pharmacy saving card to help to make it fordable to be on them.
I sure like the idea of freeze dried foods, but apart from the purchase cost, I can imagine the electricity need would be enormous and turn out costly. If things could be dried in a few hours, it might be worth while.
Electricity to run a freeze dryer works out to $2-$3 a day. That being said, have you priced buying pre-made organic freeze dried food? It is really expensive and a person can save lots of $$$ by making it yourself.
Hi, Can we have your name and order # so we can investigate this further to find out what happened ? we have searched but didn't see any order history for Carol Clarkson. We take customer service seriously.
The noise the freeze dryer makes is as much as a standard fridge + the vacuum pump. The standard vacuum pump is about 62 Decibels and the Industrial Pump is about 54 Decibels
While it may work in the garage in the summer, it will significantly increase operation time. I would not recommend putting this in a garage. Maybe a in-house laundry room, that is where I plan on putting mine since it stays cooler than the uninsulated garage.
Have a winter home in Punta Gorda FL I can tell you that refrigerators in the garage have a very short life. The humidity level is insane! Anything plastic or rubber also tends to degrade and gets sticky at an accelerated rate compared to our Ohio home garage.
I am struggling to make a decision between the Stay Fresh or the Harvest Right. I like the probe that means no guessing on the dryness of the food. Also would like to know how long this company has been making freeze dryers.

Just saw some countries allow freeze dried food on international flights because it is considered processed food and not agricultural.
