After our incredible day with the Howard family at Hurts Donuts in Bettendorf, Iowa (you can check out that video here: • DISCLAIMER | SHE DIDN’... ), we headed to a Walmart for the night. Corey shares some of our best tips for when overnighting in a Walmart parking lot and gets a surprising answer from the girls about how they would rather travel on drive days!
We headed to South Dakota on our way to meet Jess’ parents at Mount Rushmore and stopped for an overnight at a local fairground in Sioux Falls: W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. We love staying at fairground campgrounds, because there is always something to see, and they usually have full hookups or at least water and electric for less than local private campgrounds.
The fairgrounds were also super close to Sioux Falls Park, so before checking out, we drove over to see the falls. The girls were ready to be underwhelmed, but we were all pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the falls and the park were. The walkways were stunning, and there were so many places to explore.
We even climped up to the top of the tower for the drone view! As with so many other places we visit, it wasn't just the beauty of a location, but the incredible history there that won us over.
Remember that a quick stop to see something is always better than skipping it! We are so glad we took the time to check out the falls!
Stay tuned for next week as we head to Mount Rushmore! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new video!

Thank you so much for filming Sioux Falls my Hometown. Made me cry... Happy tears. My husband and I were both born in South Dakota. I lived in Sioux Falls and we got married in Sioux Falls. That was 62 years ago yesterday. Now we live in Missouri. Always love your videos. God bless you all. Much love❤❤❤❤
🎀 Happy Anniversary, blessings for many more happy and healthy years together.
LOVE that y’all are headed to the black hills!!! One of the most beautiful places this Texas grandma have ever ridden my Harley 🥰 Looking forward to seeing it again through your eyes.
No one's travel life is complete without a trip to SD.
Been twice and would love to return!
We love a bit of history thrown in so definitely not boring 😊
Not boring at all. Love learning the history about places.
Sioux Falls looks like a really unique spot, definitely worth the stop, and not a boring episode at all!
Darn, I missed you guys. I live just 17 miles south in Small Town SD. Fun fact, just 1/2 mile west from where you parked the camper, is a tunnel blasted through the rock that connects the 2 quarries together. You might have driven over the tunnel not even knowing it was there. Speaking of history from falls park, south on Phillips ave is the old downtown. Also from 6th and Phillips turn west up the cobblestone street, and your in the Historical District of Sioux Falls. Most of those houses were also built from the rock at said quarry.
Good one. Liked the music selection. Nice slow down and smell the flowers feel to it. ❤
I LOVE Sioux Falls! It was my favorite part of SD. Thanks for showing it!
What amazing video. Love learning about the States. I cool how the falls was formed. It must be even more beautiful in the past without all the buildings around.
Thank you from Ontario Canada.
My hometown! Been years since I have been back there. Thanks for the look back!
Used to be able to climb on the old mill back in the 80’s and 90’s when I was a kid. That area also used to be “be careful” zone back then too.
Very cool!!!
Beautiful Falls. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
This is really interesting! I love history!
Beautiful
Thanks. That was beautiful.
Such a great video👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting video. Thanks!
Great video and history is always good to know ❤
Another great episode. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful Falls and the history behind the mill was very interesting. A different way of life back then for sure. I agree with Corey on having the prisoners carry the bricks to built their own prison. Need to have more of that now, then maybe people would think twice before they do very stupid things. Take care!
Enjoy your videos so much.
Wonderful video!!!
Thanks for sharing, enjoyed all the history lessons.
I love it, what a beautiful place.
Great video! We took our family vacation to Lead SD this year and stopped overnight in Sioux Falls. We loved it!
Another fun video. I ended up skipping South Dakota this year and spent most of the summer in Idaho and it is still beautiful.
Such a great family you folks have there! Every video I think I am either smiling or laughing almost all the time!! The happiness and comfort factor I get from each episode is just as helpful as the rest of the content. Very well done Nickerson family!! I pray God keeps HIs hand of protection on you as you travel.
Bomb it. I love that phrase for it! Iowa to Georgia is my personal best. Still have PTSD from that.
I am in Custer, SD right now! Really beautiful areas.
Great episode. I would never had thought to stop there. Nice place. Thank you for sharing with us.
We spent a night in Sioux Falls SD two years ago and we also enjoyed seeing the falls. There was more activity when we were there as there was a craft and food fair going on along the pathways.
Thanks for all your wondervideos. They bring back wonderful memories of he places we went when fulltiming over a decade and partimeing for quite a whie after that. Even though we were on the road for that long we couldn't cover all there is to see and some of your places are the places we missed. Hope you keep it up and safe journeys.
We were there in July this summer, thanks for such a great tour, we missed some of this. I love how you go through everything so well
If you ever make it to Georgia, stop in Augusta. Their canal has an amazing history.
Sioux falls is my favorite city. So much so I'm moving there from Dallas next year.
I have been through there many times while driving 18wheeler, but had no idea of the history there. Thanks for sharing, very interesting.
We just stayed at The KOA in Sioux Falls in July. What a bunch of nice people. Keep up the great videos. We booked our Maine trip this year after watching your videos. We are staying at Acadia Seashore because of the view. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing the fairgrounds campground. Will help us with a similar trip next year.
I visited SD in June and LOVED it!! I did and saw so much, using your suggested approach of selecting and doing things well. I selected and did things well, but I did not stop to see Sioux Falls, as it was super hot and I travel with pets. Next time. Until hen, I learned SO MUCH from this video. Thanks, @Find Our Someday!
I am with Corey! I like short days.
Another great video! I'm heading to Sioux Falls tomorrow. First I'm going to check out the headwaters of the Mississippi, and the "biggest ball of twine in Minnesota"... By the way, I'm the guy that was staying at the resort across the lake from you in Island Park Idaho.. I'm slowly working my way home..
Funny, we'll be at the LH Lyon fairgrounds in 2wks. Thanks for showing us what it looks like.
Great video. I spent a week out there for soccer with my three daughters more than 10 years ago. The falls where really cool at night.
Sioux Falls Park is fun and a great place to stretch the legs on a trip out west. I've stopped twice. It is nice to see it get some love here.
I want my truck camper to have 1080ah lithium with 960 watts of solar. That should allow me to boondock and run A/C for 5 hrs, and still be fully charged before dark. ( They don’t call me the “Boondocktor- PHD in living free” for nothing! Great video!
When I was stationed at FT Leavenworth, my friend & I visited his cousin in western Iowa a couple times and tripped over for night visits to SF, SD. It appears that I missed a lot but we only went due to the cousin living in a dry county.
Where on earth are you buying gas for $3? It’s over $5 here in WA!
Also, your family is always so happy. A joy to watch.
Love the Falls, we were married there (profile picture is on one the west side lookouts. It sounded like you were hearing the Air Force practicing. We're just west of the city, in the middle of nowhere.
Thank you for visiting our small big city! We love the falls and take everyone who comes to visit. Glad you shared and hope next time we can meet up and take you to our favorite donut shop! Hit me up if you ever come through again!!!!
Looking forward to Sturgis. Been there many times.
Wife and I love your videos, so keep them coming. I've searched the Internet high and low looking for the Grand Designs model you guys are rocking, but was unable to find any information. Would you be so kind to share the year and model you guys have? We are looking to go full time with a Senior in highschool. Thanks a million, eat some donuts for us. Oh, by the way totally jealous of the last video of working in the donut shop. That looked like so much fun. Be safe guys.
Coming back to VA after our trip to the Badlands I thought about staying at the fairgrounds and exploring Sioux Falls but we “bombed” our way through to a casino in Larchwood, IA.
Next time you visit falls park make sure it's in the spring when the water level is higher and there's alot more views above the falls
Hi, I hate cities too. But love history.
Next time you guys come to South Dakota near Sioux Falls, you will have to check out Palisades State Park!
GREAT video.......looks like you guys are having a blast. My wife and I would LOVE to go full time.....maybe in a couple years. On the solar......My son and I built what we have from items that went on sale.....I think we have about $1500 in our setup. Works for us......mind you....we also have a generator just in case. We LOVE finding spots in parking lots for the night. We LOVE boondocking.
Enjoy your travels
WOW!! Such a beautiful park! Please never apologize for any of your content. I am with Cory, I do not like cities at all, I avoid them at all cost!!! I prefer the small towns with their history, little known historical facts, and especially all the natural beauty and historic buildings. For me, as a native "Desert Rat", I love anything that has trees, flowers, WATER, green fields, WATER, beaches, forests, WATER, and wildlife!!! Did I mention "WATER"? I can't get over how the rock & all the grass have their own areas, but I guess the people probably cleared the rock to be able to grow the grass & create the layout for the walking paths. I'm going to have to look up to see what kind of rock that is. Your videos encourage me to look up information about the areas you visit, so it is kind of like I am getting my dreams fulfilled too. For those of us that don't have the money, health, or youth to be able to travel and fulfill our dreams, you allow us to live our dreams through you. My dream is still to go to Alaska and catch a bunch of fish, crab, and shrimp, but especially a huge halibut (I would have to have someone help me reel it in). LOL! May God continue to Bless and Protect you all on your journeys.
Next time you're in the area I can recommend Big Sioux State recreation area, $26 for an electric site, great hikes.
Hey I was in the badlands 4 years ago this month and I'm back in SD now too Of course you probably filmed this video a while ago.
It is not biring at all. This makes a great video, seeing these spots that one would never go to. If we get too bored you can wash the truck again, said with fun...LOL
Hey guys,
Ça fait longtemps!
I'm with you Cory as an anti-bomber! 4 hours a day is the sweet spot for us. Great video on Sioux Falls, I never even thought about the fact that tere would actually be falls there. Speaking of falls, if you haven't done it yet, can I recommend The Gorge hike at Watkins Glen State Park in New York? We did it a few weeks back and it's 100% the most beautiful falls hike we have ever taken. We felt like we were in Middle Earth on the way to Rivendell and were waiting for elves and hobbits to pop out and greet us. Great video as always! Safe travels!!!
Just did our 1st Walmart . Midwest very small town. Off season so one other travel van and two truckers . I feel safer with company. We have 300 watts Solar I think. Newly added. I think we need another panel.
Great video as always guy's. I've been watching you guy's for years. I just had an idea for Cory.I seen it from a guy in Canada. He time lapsed the trip from Edmonton to Vancouver. And I thought that was really cool. I just thought that maybe you could start time lapsing your trips to show show everyone some of the scenery that you guy's get to see on your travels. Just a thought. Love your videos guy's. Stay safe, drive carefully, have fun, keep smiling, and God bless you and the rest of your family. ❤ 👄🇨🇦
We still call and ask about rather we can stay in anybody’s parking lot even if AllStays say we can.
If you guys are ever in the southwest.... I'd highly recommend Shiprock, NM as an interesting off roading hotspot, assuming you guys have never been 🙌🏾
You mentioned Tony's. Are you talking about the one we always stop at in Portland, ME? My wife and I are both Maine-iacs but we live in Atlanta. Tony's is always one of our favorite places to stop at whenever we get up there, along with Amato's in Windham. We must have a ham italian from them and for me, a lobster roll....so yummy!!! My wife is actually from Portland but for the most part grew up in Casco, I'm from Presque Isle but grew up in Naples. We went to school together in the SAD 61 area around Naples, Me.
If your ever out this way again you need to check out the Palisades...
That’s going to be quite the contrast between the wholesome family doughnut making in Iowa to the drugs, alcohol, and debauchery of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. I assume you guys aren’t going to be working together as a family at any of the local establishments in Sturgis.😆
👍❤️
Big Pipe = Penstock, built a few in the recent past.
Just got a predator 5000 generator dual fuel and ran it on propane. Super quiet…like super. Could not hear it in the horse trailer living quarters.
Great video. Was that a guard tower from the prison?
Suggesting to use a generator? Great....I'll remember that when we are boondocking and we hear the lovely sound of a loud generator. 😢
Forget Walmart as it's hit or miss. Cabela's is the place to overnight RV in a pinch.
Gas and diesel are defiantly not cheap in Canada with gas costing 2 dollars a liter and diesel costing even more The only bonus ive got is i will be buying a 1998 Dodge diesel with the 12 valve Cummings engine that will give me 22 mpg while towing a camper Solar sounds great cept on cloudy and rainy or snowy days So you either need an extra high output altrnator or a generator with a quiet muffler added to it
Cory....."I'm in charge" followed by three laughing ladies!!! LOLOLOLOL! I only have 1 daughter...and I knew what that meant.....You wear the pants in the family...because Jess says you can...I live it everyday for the last 41 years!! (but wouldn't have it any other way!!
👍🏽
Been to the Golden Spike in North Platte NE?
This was not a boring episode. I love it when you throw in some history.
Just wondering, have you checked out Boar tires?
784 views, 101 likes. And I an still going to say first on comments 😅 🙃 😳 🙂 😐 😊
Where is this donut shop at ? We’re in the West Des Moines area, always nice to take a little road trip.
I think this is the most I've seen the girls talk in a video. Some of their personality that we don't normally see came out some.
Question, I know you have a pull behind but why did you pick a pull behind vs a 5th wheel? We are really started to look at our 1st one so we are looking at both
Thank you!
What a great park to explore! Thanks for taking us with you.
Sorry to inform you but the breakfast pastry that you ate is in fact Not a kolache it was a klovasniki often mistaken for kolache. A true Kolache is a flat pastry which typically has a fruit filling and sometimes cottage cheese.
Maybe one day when you pass through the town of West Texas you can try a true Kolache!!!
Wait.......Who speeds up a waterfall, you should slow them down. lol
OK.....as a retired Seabee Chief Petty Officer, it is my duty to counsel and educate Fleet Sailors. Iced coffee and/or fish tacos are just wrong. Stop it. That is all. Carry on.
Just wanted you guys to know that my husband and I used to absolutely love your videos. Unfortunately you seem to be getting very preachy. This is why we dropped less junk.
I don’t blame you, we’re awful.
