They should have called it the vortec gas hog. I got a 2009 Silverado and it gets like 9 or 10 miles per gallon I can literally watch my gas gauge go down.
B - Thanks for sharing your experience!
I have a 2007 Express 2500 van 2 wheel drive that I use for service work carrying quite a bit of weight, It has a 6.0 Vortec that gets 10 MPG if I'm lucky. These are not the kind of vehicles you should buy if you are worried about gas mileage!
M - Thanks for sharing your experience!
The Vortec Max (the H.O. LQ9 version) actually came out in 2002 in the Escalade.
Reese - Thanks for adding this insight
Man I wonder if you coulda ordered this in a chevy box truck (express 3500) in 2002-2006 year span.
The cat eye 03-07 classic 1500 HD with 6.0 is in my opinion probably one of the best well rounded trucks GM has ever produced. I’d give my left nut to find a clean one.
J - Those are certainly great! lol, might be a stretch on the last part.
So the L76 that in the Pontiac G8 came from the Silverado? Wow ...
M - It was an adapted version for the G8, but is also found in the Silverado, yes.
Im curious because I bought my. 2011 Silverado ltz 4x4 and it came with the vortec max badges and it had a 6.2
I have a gorgeous 2007.5 silverado v max. What parts compare to this exact engine? Cuz i had to get the lifters done twice. They thought it was a 5.3. Anyways what actual parts fit the nbs silverado vortec max?
Are you asking which lifters you need for this specific engine? Seems like a big mistake to mix a 6.0 with a 5.3 - I'd have to double check on lifter part numbers, but the engines did share a lot of similar parts.
You left out the part about cam lobe wear/lifter roller failure due to AFM. I'm trying to find out if My 2018 Chevy Express 2500 cargo van 6.0 motor has the Vortec Max with AFM. Shop is telling me I have cam lobe wear or lifter noise due to AFM. :(
Mallory - In these videos, it is quite difficult to cover ALL of the problems these engines can experience. If you are wanting to know if your vehicle has AFM, it is best to pull the VIN and look it up. This will likely indicate if you have AFM or not.
Not sure when the afm started but it was post 2007
I have a '03 2500HD Vortec Maxx 6.0L and the vin decoder says its a LQ4. The truck has a super low first gear ratio and lots of trim options, so I think the badges are correct. It has 4wd and factory Edelbrock headers with a CARB plate under the hood. I think it came from Texas. What engine do I have?
R - The LQ4 is a standard 6.0L Vortec.
vortec max were 1500's you have just a stock lq4
Hello. I have an 06 Sierra 1500 5.3l. I like my truck but I need more power. Should I swap engines or find a 1500 with a 6.0l?
K - Do you need more power or want more power?
So a 2006 gmc Sierra 1500 vortec max 6.0 won’t have AFM/DOD right? Trying to get as far away from lifter issues as I can
James - Best thing to do is pull the VIN and use a VIN lookup. It will tell you if it has AFM or not.
Gen 3 motors didnt have afm/dod. They were in gen 4 motors starting in 2005
Your my hero
L - Thanks for the feedback!
The 02-06 Escalades have the 6000 H.O. Only in the AWD though. 2WD trucks had the standard 5.3.
B - Thanks for sharing this insight.
So you said the first gen vortec max 6.0 has 367 hp what about the 2nd gen l76 ? Hp / torque ?
S - We have an article on this on our Chevy Trucks website that we think would be helpful: chevytrucks.org/what-is-vortec-max/
mid 07-mid 09 came with the 4L70e
Thanks for the added insight!
I like the video but always thought the 8.1 would be the vortec max since it was the biggest vortec that could be ordered but also didn’t it make the most torque?
You would think so but the MAX was really just a marketing ploy for selling their half-ton trucks with the bigger, more expensive 6.0 engine. The 8.1 wasn't available in the half ton trucks and calling the 8.1 engine MAX when it is the Duramax alternative wouldn't make sense, which is also why the HD trucks didn't get the MAX engine despite using the 6.0 from 2007 on (just my guess).
@@8020Media confusing isn't it?
@@8020Mediathe vortec max was pretty much their version of the denali. But kept the 2wd active(u can disable the traction control) as the denalis are awd or 4wd.
Does the 07 GMC sierra HD classic 6.0 2wd have AFM?
JM - It should not.
@@8020Media How hard is it to find a 07 GMC 2wd 6.0?
Pretty difficult, but not impossible.
2007 GMC Sierra 1500 classic 2wd slt crew cab 6.0L. How much $ would be a reasonable price. 8th letter in the vin is a N.
You'd have to look at other comps out there. it depends on condition, mileage, and more.
It's the sierra version of the Silverado SS?
For the MAX?
I’m pretty sure you can get the Silverado ss in 2wd in 04-05
Ben - Correct.
I bought a stock 06 vortexmax recently and I love this truck. The 4:10 kill me at the pump. 70mph at 2200 rpm and 80 at 2800 rpm. Not a great daily driver.
Eric - Thanks for sharing your experience! It can definitely be a good truck.
What about the lesser known Vortec 8.1 L big block?
T - We've got a full video on it: czcams.com/video/pXIdvgvy6lM/video.html
I have a vortex max Denali 2003 awd
S - Nice!
I have 06 Denali also awd
Great truck great motor
K - Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@kylejmxbjust bought one they’re sick
I still have my 2007 new body Vortec max LTZ 105k on it. Has the 4LE70E transmission. Have the Diablo I3 tunner to shut off the AFM/DOD.
Every so often I’ll have someone come to me with a complement or questioning what does the Vortec MAX badge mean.
B - Nice! Thanks for sharing your experience.
The ss silverado was not 4wd
H - Depends on the year. It was introduced with AWD.
And only 1500
J - What?
So what is the difference???? Make it simple
D - Did you watch the video?
If you watch the video he explains literally every difference
