2022 Expedition Highlights Reel - Deep Sea Exploration and Beyond | Nautilus Live

- Spending over 200 days at sea in 2022, E/V Nautilus and the Corps of Exploration explored the Central Pacific Ocean with deep sea dives, seafloor mapping, and brand-new partnerships venturing into the shallow ocean. Thank you for joining the adventure as we mapped over 162,000 km2 and explored never-before-surveyed areas of the ocean floor for over 534 hours across 34 ROV dives. With expeditions ranging as far as the Pacific Remote Islands and Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monuments, we ended our season close to Hawaiʻi launching the From Shore to the Abyss partnership program with near coastal research projects focusing on wildlife biology, maritime heritage, and plastic pollution. This highlight reel shares some of our adventures beneath the sea and the inspiring people and technologies that made them possible.
With over 8.3 million views of our exploration discoveries, we are proud to share a love of ocean exploration and science with communities worldwide. Thanks to the collaboration, partnerships, and our loyal audiences, 2022 was one of our most successful- and groundbreaking- seasons yet. i always adore these streams and compilations because i feel like so many people think science is very serious and boring and stoic and it's not!! it's people seeing sea cucumbers or siphonophores and saying "i love you!! you are so cute!!! you are my favorite!!!" it makes me so happy :)

I have an intense fear of the ocean, but I try to find videos like this every once in a while to appreciate the ocean and everything in it. I think if I didn't have this phobia, I would have loved to go into a field like this. Maybe in the next life. For now, I will watch from afar, safely in a land locked state

When I watch this I always think of a teacher who says now? boys and girls I want you to use your imagination and draw me something you think might be under the Ocean, only its no longer an imagination it's for REAL.
Its crazy to think for thousands of yrs all these beautiful creatures were just living their lives out unnoticed in the dark. Im so glad we have the tech to see this stuff!!!

I love this channel not only because it’s so informational, but you guys also bash the belief that scientists are super serious all the time. If I’m being honest, one of you has probably used the word “skrunkly” to describe an animal you’ve seen. and if it hasn’t happened yet, then it’s definitely going to happen eventually.

The museum I work at has an entire deep sea dive with footage and specimens from one of the canyons off of the coat of New York. They also added a small ‘Marine Biologist Chat’ in the corner of the presentation where there are ‘comments’ on the various animals that are shown. Id like to think it’s in reference to you guys 😂 I still want a ‘looks like a dropped toy’ comment for the dumbo footage

The absolute joy and enthusiasm these people have for their job is what makes these videos so fun to watch. It’s engaging, and makes you want to learn more. I come across your videos every so often and every time it makes me so happy and want to learn more! A few hours ago I watched some of the current livestream and I forget the exact things said but the topic was UTC time and the two men discussing it made the topic so entertaining to listen to. I swear anyone in these videos could talk about paint dry and make it interesting! The absolute joy in your voices make me want to learn more, and the people I’ve shared your videos with agree. Thank you so much for sharing your videos and making the amazing organisms of the ocean more accessible to the public! Thank you so much for doing what you do, I've learned so many things about sea life through your channel and streams, you guys make everything so fascinating. I used to tune into practically every single stream no matter what else was going on, and I'm starting to do so again lately, I just love having it on in the background. It's all so positive and informative and everyone involved is just so passionate and happy to be doing what they love. Those areas have a certain beaty to them like every creature is different and special in it's own way you don't have mostly fishy fishes but you have a lot of diverse fauna squids,corals and sea cucumbers

The EV seems to really be affecting the sea life. I wonder how much of this is due to the lights? Has there been much work done to try and image these areas *without* using the spotlights? A low light camera on a stationary (very stationary) EV may yield a different perspective. Great videos as is, with the lights. Thanks!

Hello! How do sea corals produce such vibrant colors when light can't pass through/get through the deepest part of the ocean on where they are located? Thank you.
We look for aliens in space and in our skies but they’ve been deep in our oceans the entire time.

I heard them answer this on the vid- they are sort of between sharks and fish, in their own category, so yeah I think so! :)

They're in the same class as sharks, skates, and rays (Chondrichthyes), so yes!
