    This is fascinating! They almost look alien. It's so cool that they live just below us.
    Also it's oddly wholesome so hear scientists laugh and joke around casually

    The work that these people do is incredible. There's simply no way that we'd find out about these unique and rare creatures without the assistance of people who clearly love what they do.
    Thanks for sharing, the world is full of wonder, and so much yet to discover!

    I love watching these videos and the live ones. They make me want to go back to school and become a marine biologist. Unfortunately, I am a bit too old so I just watch and try to name the organisms before lthe team does and I am getting pretty good. 😉 I guess I can call it home schooling. Lol

    I wish you added timestamps with names of the species in the description so we'd get chapters. It'd make it much easier to search for more information. I see the species are in the description too, but chapters would make it more clear. Still obviously incredible videos, love to see these creatures. Feels pretty incredible to get these clear views of organisms from so deep under the surface.

    Normally it's pitch black right? So how does the light from the EV affect these creatures if at all?

    • @AGDinCA
      @AGDinCA Před rokem +1

      Most of the time, the light seems to have little effect on the organisms. However, certain fish, like the cutthroat eels, are definitely affected. They sometimes appear to lose depth perception and frequently run into obstacles or nose dive into the sea floor. Fear not, though; they are not injured. They just appear to be a bit shaken up and then go right back to the business of being fish. 👍

  • @iwatchedthevideo7115
    @iwatchedthevideo7115 Před rokem

    This is amazing footage and I cannot express how much I love the enthusiastic and informative commentary and banter! One question, as a videographer on land, what kind of lighting are you sporting down here? At these depths I imagine it's pretty pitch dark normally, but it looks almost as lit up as a coral reef. Do these creatures, who I imagine have never experienced light before, react to it, or don't they have the senses? Does it scare some creatures, and attract others, so that we are for ever doomed to have a whole shadow biosphere of creatures we will never meet in the deep, who flee at the first sense of a rov with photons? :)

    7:21 another trait on male chaunacops sexual dimorphism is they have really big nostrils compare to their own body. That's because their sole purpose is to find a female to mate with.

    How is it possible that that fishie has eyes? it cannot see anything right?

    • @coeurlregina128
      @coeurlregina128 Před rokem

      This was actually a question that puzzled scientists for a while! Turns out a lot of deep sea fish have specialized eyes that let them either 1) pick out the silhouettes of other creatures above them against the lighter background water, or 2) see the glow of bioluminescent organisms around them in the truly pitch black depths
