Beautiful RR. The '70 model year is the most recognizable of all. The Air Grabber design with the shark teeth, inspired by Curtiss P-40 Warhawk "Flying Tiger", is super cool!
"the professors went through all the catalogs", give me a break, those guys were gear heads and knew exactly what they wanted, I mean needed....LOL BEEP BEEP !
Wow! You got to drive the Wayne State car!! What an amazing machine! Super cool to «see» it out in the wild. And it’s even cooler that the owner races/raced it in the pure stock drags! 🤩
A bet a student or two filled their shorts when the +6 opened up! Hell that’s the kind of thing we need today so all the young kids don’t grow up to aspire a shit box green car only, when you hear and feel that muscle- you’ll never forget it and want one someday!
I think the ‘71-74 cars were much more modern looking, but while I typically prefer the ‘68-70s, I wouldn’t kick a ‘71 Road Runner or Charger out of my garage.
What’s up with the “Beep Beep” Horn? Sounds like it needs an adjustment, I’m pretty sure there is a small adjustment screw on the back of it so you can correct the tone. Beautiful car with a super cool history.
It was all scientific. Best power/gear ratio to meet their goals for a fixed amount of money. LOL. I love the fact that it turned into a delivery vehicle for the department afterwards!
@@musclecarcampy9922 the vac advance comes in during light load cruising. During full throttle acceleration the vacuum signal drops off since it's not needed and mechanical advance takes over.

haha pretty obvious isn't it
Super cool. I love the seams in the vinyl top.

My friend had a ‘70 GTX with this engine, a 4-speed and 4.10 Dana rear. Spectacular.
Really excellent video and an interesting backstory... thanks!
Thanks for watching. Please share the link with your friends!
I had a 69 RR, My key switch was on dash.
That is by far the coolest university on this planet or any other! )
Torque rating was 490 lbs-ft; 480 was for the 440-4 bbl.
Great car with a neat history!
‘70’s were not as good looking as 68 & 69’s but dar better looking than the ‘71’s and later years.
Pretty fast rides with the 440 tri power option.

Tach option was about $25 back then. Lots of $$$$ then.
And it wasn’t all that great!
pretty common back in the day
michigan state did sort of the same thing with a 69 442 with a w-31 drivetrain that was raced by students.
Wasn’t that W31 car bought just to race?
@@musclecarcampy9922 it was an R&D mule.
the car had no VIN,it was basically just a giveaway to the school.
I assume you are referring to the Olds here.
Love the back story!
Love the white with burnt orange interior, too.
Wow, that's wild!
That is a cool car and a great episode
Thank you.
Awesome car!

lol they bought a muscle car for "research." Mans knew what he was doing

Why disconnect the vacuum advance?
I assume it had something to do with making the end carbs come in quicker. They worked off engine vacuum.

no tach with a 4:10 Dana.......white steels on caps would look meaner
how much?
Ah, not for sale.
Damn fix the uneven gaps on the hood and trunk lid. UGH!
The hinges get loose and wiggly from opening and closing. Still looks cool though.
quit driving like a old lady and stand on it😀
Geez, did you watch the video? We got on it where appropriate. Can’t exactly do burnouts on Main Street in Gross Pointe Woods!
Nice video. Though Mopar cars with big blocks were always pigs around the northeast. They sounded good but didn't perform well in the 1/4 mile.
