      I beg to differ with all of you.
      Most of the line-ups were in town, where you were randomly chosen to do battle when the Red light caught you and another muscle car in the opposite lane. It was on!
      My GTX 6bbl was factory stock with a 747 Torque Flight connected to 4:10 Dana.
      It never lost a race (in town) except for one Chevelle which was essentially a pro-street car before we really heard that term back in the early '70s.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking any muscle car. Those were the most thrilling cars to ever drive and I'd be happy with any of them.
      There was nothing like seeing and hearing those cars do battle on any Saturday night and there possibly may never be again.

    These 426 Hemi's with the right rear axle ratio could do 200 MPPH right out of the showroom. Pretty amazing since their transmission had no over-drive gears as we have today. The very best thing about performance cars back then is that they were very Affordable and could take a lot of abuse without costly problems.

    • @chadhaire1711
      @chadhaire1711 Před rokem +2

      @@kylegable1273 You are full of crap....the real horsepower of the 426 is 350, not 425, and that 500 figure is horseshit. You dont even know the difference between GROSS horsepower and NET horsepower. Until 1971 all cars were rated GROSS hp, which is a bare engine on a dyno with no mufflers, no belts, no air cleaner....that gave 425 hp on the 426 at 5,000 rpm redline. But put all those items on the engine and in the car, hp drops to 350 net--the REAL in the car horsepower. Starting in 1972 ALL CARS have to be rated net....the 1972 MOPAR parts catalog listed the 426 at 350, the 440-6 at 325.
      Running a bare 426 on the dyno at 6,000 rpm can raise the GROSS horsepower at about 470, but that is only about 370 NET in the car, but the engine can blow up doing that...which is why these came with a 90 day warranty. A 2022 Dodge 5.7 puts out MORE at 375 NET. The 500 hp figures are total crap and I dont need to go over to Petty to see otherwise.
      So again a 100% stock 426 street Hemi is running 350 horsepower......less than a 2022 5.7..100% FACT!!! No you learned something today....
