Dereck Lively Isn't Like Other Rookie Bigs.

- Dereck Lively was a consensus top 3 recruit in the 2022 high school class. However after a year at Duke where he dealt with injuries his draft stock fell a little bit. But he still was a high upside prospect averaging over 2bpg in under 20mpg, with elite athleticism. Which is why the Mavericks took him 12th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. Lively may not have numbers that standout the most. Especially compared to his other rookie peers at his position.
But Lively had a real impact on the Mavs this season, and was an important factor in why they were able to avoid the play-in. In this video I want to talk about how good Dereck Lively was as a rookie, why he’s better than his numbers may suggest, and what his potential is moving forward.

Lively has very good movement for his size
He's very similar of a player to Rudy Gobert

@@r.a.tackey3230 he don't need to he just need to catch lobs, rebound, set screens and play defense that's really all he need to do to compliment Luka and Kyrie
@@r.a.tackey3230 horrible take, a jump shot will for sure be very useful, but it isn't the main priority for a big man in this current nba, main things are versatility on defence, grabbing boards, setting good screens and playmaking out of them, and catching lobs/diving to the rim, and these are all things lively is pretty good at, and will get even better
