To facilitate this, the NBA's pre-season games should start a bit earlier. European season usually start in September but the NBA's training camps start at the end of September.

We need a world club tournament
year to year
A world tournament with the NBA champion and the champions from each continent would be interesting. FIBA should help organize this competition.

I am a lifelong Chicago Bulls fan, born and raised in Chicago in the 90s and seeing the dominating Jordan/Pippen teams. Continue to watch them to this day. Now I live in London, and my wife is from Barcelona. I went to an FC Barcelona basket game last year with my mom because we used to go to a lot of Bulls games growing up. I got so anxiety ridden because I felt like they were passing way too much. But in reality they were really really hunting for the best kind of shot. No heroball at all. Made it pretty obvious why the current Bulls 'my turn, your turn' with Lavine and DeRozan is failing. I'm quite sure that last years FC Barcelona with Mirotic would beat the last years' Bulls in a series.
Being away from the US in general, you understand we are just raised with a ridiculous amount of entitled exceptionalism. It's such a gross look when the cacophony of sports media and former NBA players like Gilbert Arenas continue to talk about players like Jokic like he is a joke. I remember when Nikola Mirotic turned down a contract in Utah and Milwaukee to return to Barcelona. I was like, 'yes, I too would have taken less money to live in a way, way, way better city.' And so many people came down on me in comments about how America was the greatest yadda, yadda, yadda. It's ridiculous that even as somebody that has spent substantial time in all three aforementioned cities; trying to explain thing like worker and social rights, the choice of free healthcare, great infrastructure and public transportation, and pedestrian access just illicits a response of 'that's communism.'
Respect to you. Thank you for a wonderful take and reflection.
Funny how much the americans actually love communism. When you tell them of good things, they say communism.
Also, considering how a lot of american internal politics reminds me of late 19th to early 20th century Europe that nurtured the communist idea, it seems they really want to bring about a revolution.
Just weird.
Bro turned down a huge contract from Utah to play in Barcelona, yup bro is acoustic. I’m not even American 😭

Basket game? lol
There’s a reason Luka Doncic from Slovenia said European league is harder then NBA
Well duh. The NBA season (82 games) is more than twice as long as a Euroleague season (34 games). Do you realize how much more taxing that is on your body? NBA players aren't always gonna go hard every game. Meanwhile, Euroleague pllayers have to play hard every game because each win or loss means more. But look at how NBA teams turn it up when the playoffs start. They are on another level.

@@drestathagangsta8880 if you count Euroleague, Domestic league, Domestic Cup and Super Cup games, a final4 Euroleague team will have to play around the same amount of games as an NBA team. Also in Europe you don't have commercial time-outs every 5 minutes, so I don't know who's getting more physical at the end. Also in Euroleague all 5 players on the court move like hell, in the NBA it's too much iso and corner men. If you watch a play-off or final 4 game in Europe is like watching wrestling or brawls at times
Add 34 more Games of domestic competition, 1 to 4 of Domestic Cup and 1 or 2 of Supercup.
At least 70 Games, 74 at most, only 8 less than in the NBA where 41 Games are played with now defense and with many players resting.

what do you mean Europe is improving? You do realize that most of the best NBA players are European? NBA is just higher paid league, thats all there is to it. If the same amount of money was circulating in Europe, I believe 90% of Europeans would never even consider going to NBA. On the other hand, calling an NBA team a world champ just because NBA is the strognest league is really stupid. We can all agree that English premiere league is the best football league in the world, but for many years Spanish teams dominated in Champions league over all the English teams, even tho Spanish league is not the strongest. @@konstantinosmaragkakis585That's already baked into their record cause the top NBA teams are playing the lower rated NBA teams. The euro league teams are purely hypothetical based on the win rate of playing top NBA teams since 2000 or whatever year he said
Winning one game means nothing. These are friendlies, and the NBA teams play friendlies against other leagues all the time, they almost never win. In the NBA, even the worst team in the league can beat the best team on any given night just because of the nature of the game. The vast majority of the time the NBA team wipes the floor with the others.

I really wanna see it get settled. The first time I saw the "World Champions" title being used by the NBA champs, I find it weird since there are no flags being represented there and there were only playing in a domestic league. About time to settle this. Best ball clubs in the world duke it out to see who's the best.
Yeah, no flags are being represented for each team, but technically that statement is partially incorrect as well. The NBA (as well as other American sporting leagues) do have our country's national anthem (The Star-Spangled Banner) be played before EVERY game, regardless of whether it's the postseason or not (and if the Toronto Raptors are playing, the Canadian anthem plays too). I personally find it to be an odd tradition that's dated back to WW1, because you never see this in Europe for the UEFA Champions League (You never hear the anthems of the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, etc. in that event). I don't know how anthems are like in the EuroLeague but many Americans' arrogance and patriotism, especially for the NBA, just boggles my mind, AS AN AMERICAN MYSELF, quite a bit on many occasions.
Remember back in the 30’s when England refused to play in the soccer World Cup because how could anyone even consider themselves better? It was a foregone conclusion, so they said, that England would crush anyone, so why even go to the tournament. Then in 1950 they decided to grace the world with their presence and were summarily eliminated when they lost to the USA by a bunch of amateurs. So much for the English arrogance at the time.
The apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

if there's something american nba tams definetly should learn about european clubs is to make good club badges. my god the nba badges look just like some kind of soda or snacks label
That's because in the NBA they're franchises, European teams are teams that have more and even more years of history, culture and tradition and many time (like Real or Barcelona) are owned by fans, or in the case of CSKA, was workers owned being the club of the central soviet army until 1992. And many Greek teams were fan owned until recently with over +60 years of history at least.
For instance franchises move from cities, or just buy new rosters completely. And that makes them behave more like when your local supermarket chain puts a new store in another place and tries to reach a market by attracting customers.

@@matthewmartin7391 playing a soccer match is much more taxing on the body. you probably spend (way) more time on the field and need to do a lot more running. so it balances out.
@@janthecoo4964 not really, nba players play a maximum of 135 games a season if they go all the way and have to constantly be running and jumping in an explosive manner with barely any rest days most times being just a 1 day rest. Where in soccer you have up to a week for league games and midweek for domestic and continental competitions.
So they have better recovery as for actual gameplay footballers have a more tedious cardiovascular challenge however in terms of frequency of injury the nba is a lot more injury prone as players are constantly jumping putting incredible pressure on there knees which is already bad with a tall persons high center of gravity compared to a footballers lower center of gravity and heightened lower body strength.
It’s about the same interms of taxing body issues.
I doubt this will ever happen. The NBA teams wouldn't want to risk losing their prestige as the best teams in the world. They are making too money and have too much clout. It is why 1v1 competitions don't happen in the NBA or the fact that stars don't play in the dunk contest.

In Europe's Football, there is a UEFA Champions League which seek out the best team in Europe. Europe arguably has the best Football Leagues in the world but when they won the Champion's League, I havent seen anyone called that team who won a World Champ. They just said, "European Champion". They usually said World Champ only when they won the FIFA Club World Cup.
So by saying NBA champs are World Champs. doesnt make sense to me. Or maybe I'm just stupid and doesnt have the right to think like this :v
Nope, you’re completely right
You're right, what's happening is just that basketball has been one of "america's sports" for a long time, and only now it's starting to become a more international sport.
Football on the other hand has always been an international sport from the start.
So many americans who watch the NBA aren't used to the concept of a real international sport, it's new concept for them, while to us it's just obvious.

One major fact you stated, NBA has a different ruleset to FIBA and Euroleague, which means they get to play all those games under the rules they are comfortable playing.
None of those games were indeed played under FIBA rules, aka the rules used for international competitions

Agreed, should be a world championship tournament. However a friend is still a friendly and can guarantee some of these guys just didn't want to get hurt.
8:32 And THAT'S why nba or any other powerful team can't declare itself champion without playing. There were some cases of european teams (the clearly superior teams and favs to win it every year) getting beaten by teams from south america and others from mexico and africa put up a good fight making everyone doubt who would get the W
Even if you'll win 99 out of 100 games as long as that single L exists you can't celebrate beforehand
hermano argentino, no pudiste haberlo dicho mejor
In football (soccer) we have continental cups and then there is another tournament amoung the winners to decide who is the world champion of that year
The only part of the video actually addressing the question whether NBA teams are World Champions is from 6:00 to 7:37 and I was surprised that it was even a question and didn't understand why it was a question in the first place. But if people manage to come up with the argument at 8:37 "too many times" (although 1 could be "too many" for that) then that probably tells me how it became a question.
I am not really into basketball and just got this video recommended for some reason. So I didn't even know that there were different rules (and what the differences are but that's not the point). But it seemed interesting so I watched it. The point (and fact) is that you are not the World Champion unless you win a competition with the best teams from all around the world. Period. So the main part of the video, deciding whether the NBA champions can be called the World Champions was over with the definition of a champion at 6:39. The rest was statistics about how often NBA teams win, how often Euroleague teams win and what's the recent trend in the matches between those teams. This doesn't change if teams from one league won 60, 80, or even 99% of matches previously against teams from other leagues, doesn't change if some players had better or worse performances in one league than in the other, *especially if those teams usually play with different rules than the other.* This wouldn't change if NBA teams had 1 singular defeat against Euroleague teams and it wouldn't change if they had 0. Every team, every national team, every league in every sport was unbeaten once until suddenly it wasn't. If you say that the NBA is the best league and their champions are the best team then that's still your (obviously widely regarded) opinion. If you say that NBA teams don't take these matches seriously, that's also your opinion and it doesn't matter regarding the original question of the topic. If the teams call themselves World Champions without winning a competition *that every single team in the world can gain entry to by winning matches on the court* (which is true for the FIFA Club World Cup pointed out as an example, *every single team form every single country in the whole world can, theoretically, with different chances but still non-zero chances, qualify for)* then that's not an opinion, that's their objectively, factually wrong claim since they didn't prove that they are the best team in the world. *Since such a competition does not currently exist* (as I read in other comments, only the Intercontinental Cup does which in its last edition featured 0 NBA teams and 0 Euroleague teams) *no team can rightfully claim that they are the World Champions.*

The same story can be seen on international team level as well. The FIBA World Cup for national teams hasn't been won by a north american team since 2014, with the last winner being Germany in 2023 and Spain in 2019. The US did not even make into the top 3 in each of those tournaments respectively. A European team is also tied for most titles overall with the US team (formerly Yugoslavia/now Serbia)
This has nothing to do with NBA and club basketball.

Did you see joker playing for Serbia in this fiba why didn’t he play cause it’s a low tier leauge for him he’s current nba champion and mvp he could have easily made Sérbia more better but why he didn’t cause it’s sucker trophy the winner it was denis Schroder who was good in finals and he plays in nba what is Schroder is nba nothing guys traded like shit the champion Schroder ain’t shit in nba see the level Schroder dominated in fiba but nba a little guy who gets traded players for Toronto
Great video clip, thank you
The difference of these one off games is that they're played as exhibitions. I guarantee if you told Kobe that was the "World Championship" game- Lakers win by 20. It's a showcase game and they don't care who wins because there's nothing on the line.
Cry😂😂
What happens if you told the same to Euroleague top players like Navaro or Spanoulis. Same thing. Get over it. Nowadays it would be 50-50 between top EL and NBA teams. Sometimes I watch Bucks and GSW games and I cringe on how bad they play. The Nuggets is a different story though. They could win the Euroleague
so he missed all of those shots on purpose? lame ass argument
@@TMPOUZINot exactly. Those players you mentioned would still be hyped up and trying to prove themselves against an NBA team. You're lying to yourself if you think NBA teams feel as if they have something to prove against them.
I knew we could rely on you making these arguments and spreading the word
I was there for the Alba Berlin/Spurs game, and i can tell you that even if Berlin did a great game, the spurs would have beaten them so hard if they had push at 100 percent. They only played the 2nd quarter at 90%, which lead them to more than 20 points advantage. Then they were just chilling and got surprised...
I've always said ( I'm a Lakers fan) that I wish there was a champions style competition. Top 4 teams from every league compete each other to become the actual world champions
I would love to see something like the club world cup we see in soccer. Hopefully FIBA can organize something like that so that there is actual competitive basketball played between different continents.
FIBA actually already has a tournament like this. It's called Intercontinental Cup
Would NBA clubs even attend if it's played under FIBA rules? It's easier to say you are world champion just because.
@@jal051Finalists from ECF and WCF. Or top 2 team regular season team from both EC AND WC.

Barca and Real Madrid be cooking in fútbol and basketball 💀
Excellent video, only thing wrong I could find was around the 8 minute mark when you say the Premier is the best football national league. It isn't. The only reason people claim it is is because it's the English league, which makes it more internationally accessible and have more "history" to itself.
The best league is the Spanish "LaLiga". It has the best teams with the most international titles along with the best players in the world.
No. It’s statistically the EPL. Anecdotally, from players and managers, it’s the EPL.
La Liga is not the force it once was, since the EPL is benefitting from much higher revenue
I think if it was actually formatted like an important game/playoff game
The game results would be drastically different.
In our perspective as Brazilians, this issue is reminiscent of the "Copa Toyota" controversy, also known as the Intercontinental Cup. In this tournament, the champion of the Copa Libertadores (which, by the way, excludes teams from Central and North America) faced the champion of the UEFA Champions League in a single match. After this single game, the winner was considered the world champion. Currently, the FIFA Club World Cup includes champions from continental leagues as representatives, and there are still plans for changes to give this tournament a championship format. In my view, this would provide more fairness in the "world champion" matter.
absolutely correct my brazilian friend
Yeah, the intercontinental was really outdated. It belong to the times when only Europe and South America had strong clubs, and it wasn't even correct in the territories. It's good they changed it. But hey, at least there was a cup. No one claimed to be World Champion just because.
your copa libertadores winner got slapped 4 zip by a team without its two best players. those north and central american teams would not change aynthing to that
@@reinoutvanrespaille6217 Your analysis is quite superficial, considering that a team from Asia and two from Africa have reached the final. Just like Fluminense, Santos with Neymar lost 4-0 to Barcelona in the final. So, understand that the world is not limited to South America and Europe, even in sports.
@@profpenatieri your point makes no sense. the champions of each continent play in a direct elimination tournament to decide the world champion. EXACTLY like the actual world cup. what do you want every single team in the world to play each other to determine the world champion?
i just watched this video after the loss of the mavs against real madrid
mavericks best player played 10 minutes and the 2nd best didnt play
@@konstantinosvlachakis1857 so youre telling me mavericks are just a bunch of losers depending on 1 player? Aight. Or maybe real madrid are just better on a team level, which is obvious
@@spkd123 NBA players usually don't go all out in these exhibition matches for fear of injury. These are promotional matches for basketball to enhance the game in Europe. Btw when you're talking about best player, that's 20%+ of the on court team firepower, 20+ because the best player does more than a regular player. For example, MJ probably on average scored a third (or more) of all Bulls points per game. Basketball is not football, a single player has more effect on a team.
@@MrAkaacer ahh, so youre saying they dont want to play. Of course. You're just either delusional or ignorant.
@@spkd123you pretty much said it yourself 😂 that's the Mavs for you , the team runs through Doncic no one else sorry buddy boy
Your conclusions at the end are a lil wild. It’s important to keep in mind that these matchups were NBA preseason
There is already a "FIBA Club World Cup" and it's called the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. The only thing is that most EuroLeague teams don't participate, and the NBA sends the G-League champions to play in that cup. But still, we need the NBA and the EuroLeague to participate in this competition to prove that NBA teams aren't always world champions.
Noah Lyles is laughing somewhere at the background. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He doesn't need to. He just needs to keep on focusing on his athletics career and winning more medals against athletes from all over the world. He doesn't live in a self-claimed fantasy with self-awarded "world champions" titles, and that's a big win for him already.
someone is salty@@ClovzeLeFernandezMatthews
He’s a bum
17:40 Important to note that the Euro League teams played the best teams in the NBA if they were to play in a regular season they would have matched up with tanking teams and their records would be much better.
He also chose some of the finest clubs in Europe. I think his comparison is balanced.
fair point. especially in the light of team usa latest vows
I dont know why I just watched this. Im not even a basketball fan. But good video, have a like
I don’t watch basketball, but seeing this video, I think it would be cool if they organized a championship like the Club World Cup by FIFA
The question is how serious do the NBA players take those games.
Because I doubt they take serious at all.
Yeah, it's just a preseason game that's just got a bit more spice to it but that's it.
I thought Kobe was supposed to be competitive
You really think professional sportsmen can turn off a winning mentality
Watch an NBA all star game 😂@@slapmyfunkybass
and for anyone that was wondering, the 2023 October game showcased in the video (mavericks against real madrid) real madrid won by 4 points, 127 - 123.
They need to do a best of 7 to see who adjusts better I’m sure the nba players have never seen there competition yet the euro players have seen nba players and have a whole game plan going in yet they lost more of the time
Thanks for saying it! You have this Canadian's support!
A couple of days ago, Real Madrid won a game against the Dallas Mavericks in madrid. A match in which it had clearly been agreed not to play defense, otherwise Real Madrid could have won by at least 30 points.
dude y’all could/would not have won by no 30 pts…Idk who be sounding more ridiculous sometimes, the Americans or the Europeans.
Bullshit.
in 2007 Unicaja Malaga (also euroleague team at that moment, now playing champion basketball league) also defeated Memphis Grizzlies.
Anyway, that doesn't mean anything. I'm quite sure NBA teams don't give 100% when they play overseas with european teams in preseason, and also, european teams are, of course, quite motivated.
Really good video facts was spoken. At this point insert the club word club cup
According to Wikipedia, non-NBA champion teams have a 13-2 record against Euroleague Championship teams. NBA championship teams have a 6-3 record against Euroleague teams. The total combined record is 19-5 in favor of the NBA according to Wikipedia. So what exactly is the argument again?
The argument is, according to your statistics, that once every 4 years (19-5) the World Champion could be a non-NBA club. BTW, this is about the same percentage that happens in soccer with non-European clubs.
i would love to see NBA teams playing officials on european courts. NBA is better at basketball, but NBA crowds are so lame. Imagine Denver or Boston playing Olympiakos, Real Madrid or Locomotiv with a full court
also, one quick thing. European teams are accustomed to Single-Elimination, something NBA teams dont really know how to face. NBA coaches arent as quick as European coaches to change things in game (they make adjustments, whereas ive seen european coaches changing the starting five from the five that started to other 5 guys in the seconf half), usually making those changes in the next game of the series.
Lokomotiv? Are you for real?

Home advantage plays a big part in those victories. Also basketball courts in EU are smaller + teams have 40mins of game time instead of 48. There are some stats:
Nba teams have a combined record of 52-14 against EuroLeague teams, since 2003, playing under NBA rules.
NBA teams have a record of 36-4, when playing the games at home, under NBA rules, and with three NBA refs.
Facts overload......Common sense overload.
this needs to get settled sooner rather than later
Excellent video, great background; the context is very important as well I absolutely agree with conclusions
You're talking about exhibition games, and they're probably mandatory as well. Its hard to read too much into it
Many of the teams that lost to the NBA are from the second leagues from their country
I heard the words "World Champion"... As a german I became sharp-eared! 😉😂
You have to say that the nba and euroleague have diferent rules, because It matters a lot for the stats
what if i told you he did?
i think you forgot to mention something really important and that's the draft picks and Caps rules in the NBA are far harsh and focused to make all teams on the same level unlike euro league were Barca and Madrid collect all the good players for themselves and become dominante
Dallas will be playing against Real Madrid in preseason game. Real Madrid is the current Euroleague Champions so this game will be exciting for sure. Luka against his former team, I'm sure he is hyped up because this is like homecoming game also him and Tavares has already played each other in World Cup it's like a rematch with different teams.
But they use nba rules and nba referees right?
@@BontoBontoa Yeah NBA rules and probably 3 NBA referees since it's a NBA preseason game.
and the dallas lost
One game sample size against NBA teams fresh off of training camp. Come on lmfao
It goes like this. "Nba champions" get their anabolics and meds during their normal season and while finish they make their recovery by stopping them. So they become normal so the game between europe teams is equal
Bullshit.
Here’s the thing it was a pre season game where they don’t try and the playoffs are best in 7 where they try their best against one another, nba teams are one one if not the best league imo
I wanna see a game where BOTH teams have the same interest level.
loosing from a euro team...? i think it's all the motivation you need
How about all the European audience who would watch that game?
Even the basketball version of Barcelona can terrorizing anyone between 2009-2011
Maccabi Tel Aviv in four times, Real Madrid, CSKA and Barça in three times, Fenerbahçe in two times and Unicaja, ALBA Berlin, Adelaide 36ers and the national team of the Soviet Union, the only ones to win against NBA teams...anyway, thank you for make this very needed video, whatever more powerful the NBA is, it is still a national league.
totally agree, it will be awesome to have a game or series between euro league and nba champions to declare the real world champion
Man if the euroleague and nba merge, it would be crazy
There used to be rumours about NBA thinking of an European franchise.
It's stupid because of geography
But playing a single game during preseason it's a good idea
