Flying out to the Netherlands for just the day, the second of three back-to-back festival appearances takes place at the Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, before flying back to Germany for Rock Im Park. The venue is essentially just one big open park. Parts of this show were shown as TV highlights, but some of it was also part of a highlights programme on the radio and once you’ve got that, the only songs missing are Who Feels Love, Shakermaker, Acquiesce and Gas Panic (Stand By Me was omitted from the set for these early June festivals). These early June festival gigs feature the band bouncing back from Berlin, where Liam sounded a bit uninspired and tonight that keeps momentum keeps going. Liam again sounds decent here, but tonight he’s dropping a significant part of his vocal style. The “imaginasheun” and “sunsheeine”s in Cigarettes & Alcohol are now almost non-existent, and over the course of the next few shows, he’d drop them completely. By Rock N’ Roll Star, his voice is very gruff and deep too. The rest of the band put on quite a high energy gig however, and Gem plays really well on Cigarettes & Alcohol and Live Forever especially. Another decent show from this strange section of the tour.
