Well it seemed to have passed all the test you gave it and definitely full featured. That and pretty decent video to boot. I think EXO has a winner on their hands. It'll be interesting to see a review of the other features that it has. I am definitely a fan of having itself landing right on the landing pad. I hate landing in dusty dirty environments.

Thanks! It surprised me how well it did and all the functions it has. I like to hand catch a lot, but with the landing pad search it is more fun to watch it find the pad and see how close it gets, lol. I found that I have to be careful though if I leave the obstacle avoidance on as if it's a tight area during landing it starts navigating away from the obstacle instead of searching for the pad... Freaked me out a bit when it veered away once for no apparent reason (there was an obstacle, so there was a reason...). 😎

Dang I just love the obstacle avoidance and the landing pad detection. EXO is becoming the DJI killer/replacer; they're drones are way advanced. Thanks for the video and can't wait to watch another one of your videos. Hope you have a great morning and great day.

Good drone but DJI killer not quite there yet
. Unfortunately it is priced as a DJI drone. In my opinion That is their major down fall, this drone with 3 batteries comes to over $1100. If they can get it down to $7-800 complete with the 3 battery package they would definitely corner the market esp with newbies.

I just HAD to subscribe to your channel, just a mere 20+ seconds into your intro where your poor drone plummets into the river!! Whoa! You've obviously got a sense of humour (humor) and ain't afraid to show what can happen with drones! Goodonya!
I'm a retired fixed wing and helicopter pilot (and sometime ultralight instructor) who somehow never scratched a passenger or plane. Drones?! Ha! I'm self taught (idiot for a teacher) here and since getting one last year, I've redecorated the interior of our home with my drone blades (twice) and finally wrapped it around the TV antenna while inspecting the chemical spill below the antenna (just after having the roof renovated. Yeah ... pigeon diarrhea looks an awful lot like "chemical spill" on a controller screen.) Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning heaps more here! Keep up the good work!

@AlienDrones I received the drone. Here are my thoughts
      1. I had to contact Exo to get the drone in the air. I did everything that the instructions said and couldn't get it to fly. Apparently Exo said having an Exo account is required to fly the Blackhawk 2, so after I created the account, the drone flew perfectly.
      2. I accidently forgot to take the gimbal cover off when I turned the drone on for the first time. It said the camera failed to initialize. The software told me to shut off the drone, remove the gimbal cover and try again. The gimbal and camera came on with no issues.
      3. The first recording had a lot of motion blur. Forgot to calibrate the gyro. Whoops. That fixed the issue.
The VLOS with this drone for me is right at about 1500 ft. I had no FPV loss. I know this drone has a 5 mile range, but definitely won't go that far.
So far I like the drone. Haven't tried smart functions but will try those later.
One thing I haven't been able to figure out is when I record a video, it makes a 4K video and a 720p. I don't know why it's recording both. Maybe there is a setting to only record in 4K.
      So far, great drone.

The best follow drone that will switch to GPS if it loses image lock is the Skydio 2+: czcams.com/video/6cPGTFYoFa0/video.html and it has a lot of additional features including the best obstacle avoidance in the industry. If follow is your priority, nothing touches the Skydio, IMO. Keep in mind all can only follow to some max speed, maybe 25-30 ish MPH or so.

I have not seen any heating issues or never had a disconnect. I've flown it in nearly 100 deg temps in full sun doing follow mode tests with obstacle avoidance turned on and had no issues after exhausting 3 batteries of flight. The EXO mini pro has a temperature display front and center on the app and does go up pretty quick (in to the orange color), especially when it's sitting on the ground, but so far have not had an overheat or disconnect either.

The Blackhawk 2 pro series is a lot more tech and in my flights very stable and a pleasure to fly. The functions and features are fairly decent, but depending on the model it is 2x the price of a similar Holy Stone kit including batteries. So if cost is not an issue the Blackhawk 2 pro is a lot more drone hands down. Holy Stone once and for all needs to solve the toilet bowling issue they seem to have as well, from what viewers tell me it's in about 50% of them, which can be really frustrating if you get a bad one...

Next would be the DJI Mini 3 amzn.to/3qB0T8H , the Blackhawk 2 Pro is a distant 4th for following though it can do it. The follow isn't the difficult part but the good obstacle avoidance while it is following is the key. If you are going down the road with few obstacles, the EXO will do fine. If you need it to weave and bob around trees and branches then the Skydio is your best bet, followed by the Air 3. Hope this helps!

Good review! Now, avoid 24fps at all cost! 24fps does not exist in todays displays and monitors, the frame rate will look like 12fps and it hard to watch seeing every other frame being cloned to match the devices hertz. The 6:4 pull down even if you use a ND filter some displays will have a hard time cloning/blending frames. Stay at 30fps or 60fps. Another way to avoid the cloning/blending done by the device render at 60fps. But 30fps is ok for those that does not have internet speed to watch. Tip: CZcams encoders will encode your video at better quality if you render at 60fps 4k with a 200Mbps upload.

And remember that buying an Exo rebranded drone you get the privilege of paying an average 30% more than the original drone. Exo does not build ANY pf their product line. All are chinese rebrands. They partner with Hubsan on the Blackhawk line for distribution only.

    • @AlienDrones
      @AlienDrones  Pƙed 2 lety

I think EXO may have insinuated they have a bit more involvement in the process and manufacturing than they do, but a _rebrand only_ is not completely accurate either as EXO is supposed to be a value add in how they partner with Hubsan and will assist with the App, firmware and lighting a fire under Hubsan to address and solve issues as they show up, and Blackhawk 2 pro has never been sold in the US before so that's a bonus. In the end anything that gets us as drone consumers a more robust product though is good for the industry. From what I hear from previous Hubsan owners I think it must be working to some extent so far as the BH2 pros I've flown have been really robust and good fliers. Still some bugs to work out but there has been 3 firmware updates already, so a fair start but time will tell. I think they've been pretty upfront that Hubsan is the OEM.

@@AlienDrones The Zino Mine Pro has had the same updates as the Exo Mini. The Exo mini and Blackhawk fly well because their Hubsan counterparts fly well, nothing to do with Exo. Hubsan has always put out decent hardware withy sketchy firmware they fix over time. There is no evidence of any innovation from Exo they both use the others app, the updates are coming out at the same pace, there is no difference between the two at all. Because of Exo though, support for ZMP owners has become near impossible. From Exo's own press release and interviews they partnered with Hubsan. Part of which being customer support for the Hubsan US customers. Now Hubsan support redirects to Exo. My only response from Hubsan has been "Could you kindly try link to new site, so they can help further" Exo then says "Sorry not our problem." Cookie cutter support that ends with blame the pilot. All for a premium prices which all you are getting is a paint job, decals, and mediocre support in better English. EXO is trying to market these cheap chinese made drones as their own and jack the price up. They claim all this great customer support. If the product is so great as they claim you don't need great support. I tested the so called Blackhawk 2 which is just the Hubsan Ace Pro. Same issues you had. I'll let my reviews speak for itself regarding what worked and what didn't, I'm running down the functions and features in additional videos right now and am finding some deficiencies and some things working okay. Honestly I don't really care who does what regarding EXO, Hubsan or if they are farming it out to grandma in Kathmandu, only that in the end the consumer gets a robust product with decent features for a fair market price with acceptable support when needed. Don't get me wrong, I wish them well as overall it does work and has been a decent basic flier for me, but they indeed have some work to do to for the current price to make it a premium product with premium support.
