  • Thermal Pad Modding time again! Today with the RX 5700 XT Pulse Edition from Sapphire. We'll do a before & after as well as take the card apart to replace all pads. We'll use the brand GELID for our thermal pads today.
    Front needs 1mm thick thermal pads
    Back plate needs 2mm thick thermal pads

    Thank you so much! I followed your video to a T and changed the junction temp from 100 - 102 degrees Celsius to 80 degrees Celsius. This is by far the biggest temp change I have ever seen when replacing and adding thermal pads.

    3mm pad is needed at back side- and remove plastic from back side.
    that alone reduced temps from 94 to 82.

    May I ask how big was the thermal pad you bought? I was planning to get the thermal right odissey and they have a 85x45 option and a 120x120 one, I was wondering if buying 2x 85x45 1mm and 2mm each would be enough for front and back

    Great video! I was wondering about the backplate when placing the thermal pads that will be conducting heat from the back at 0:1:55 - I saw that it had a smooth plastic sheet underneath it - noticed that it wasn't present on the portion on the long strip of thermal pad and the small square for the one thermal pad beside it. Do we need to strip off a portion of the plastic sheeting before placing the new ones as you did as well?

  • @musek5048

    i tried out this mod with 1.5mm for the inner most pads and 3mm for the backplate ones. i went from 77c core/79c mem/99c hotspot temps down to 60-65c core/65c mem and 78 hotspot! I was pretty surprised at how well that worked! I was honestly expecting a few degrees drop only and would have been pretty happy about that but this took it to a new level. next time I repaste I'm going to try an idea from another person that also did a video on this mod but they put paste on the flat area under the heatpipes where it makes contact with the second smaller heatsink. So far my temps have been stable so I dont wanna open it up again too soon and mess the temps up again so I'll just have to wait for the next repaste or if it starts spiking in temps again. So far so good though! thanks for making this guide!

      I just did this recently. What I did was use Gelid Ultimate for 1mm since it's on sale right now on Amazon. Then for the 1.5mm parts I bought some Frosty Thermal pad 12.8's since they better value compared to Gelids and Thermalrights. It's like 30-50% off compared to those with same performance.

      Have you ever changed the thermal pad for the Sapphire RX 6700 XT Pulse..? I need a definite size to buy it in an online shop. Do you know the size of the thermal pad?

  • @dalileddineslimani6399

    look have same model as yours but it's rx 5700 i'm not using it for mining just for content creation and video montage and gaming at idle it's around 50/55 celcius and on benchmarks it reaches 68/70/75 not more than that and in some games like hitman and resident evil games on ultra settings the card starts to make a big noise and temps increases to 75/78 celcius
    do you recommend re-applying thermal pad to decrease temps?

    • @CursedMining
      @CursedMining  Před 2 lety +1

      hello mate! Is this Core temp or Memory temperature? If memory, then you are fine. If core.. it is a bit much on the latter (75+), but in gaming it only happens for short periods of time. To confirm I would use a program like hwinfo64 to check memory temp while doing so, this should definitely stay

    Hi friend. Are you sure that the size of the pads are 1mm? Because I saw some people saying that the ideal is 0,75mm or 0,5mm to have a better conductivity.

    • @CursedMining
      @CursedMining  Před 3 lety

      heyho, I went after the Gamers Nexus' / Sapphire info and it improved my card. 0.75 is generally harder to find but depending on the density of pad you can indeed have different results with other sizes, I can only offer to try 0.5 to compare if I need to redo it but mine dropped enough degrees for me to be happy for now :) cheers ⛏️
