TriCal | A new instrument for measuring accuracy, repeatability and calibration of industrial robots

Introducing the TriCal - simple, elegant, affordable 3D measuring instrument. A key element - three highly accurate digital indicators that are installed orthogonally to each other and represent the Cartesian coordinate system. The position of a 1" precision sphere can be measured in the range of ± 6mm. Another 1.5" sphere is used to master the indicators (by coupling the sphere with a magnetic nest) so the position and orientation of the measuring coordinate system (with respect to the flange of the robot) are precisely known. Measurement data is continuously transmitted to the computer via Bluetooth. The TriCal can be mounted directly on the robot or on the fixed base (in the first case, the additional weight may be attached to simulate a necessary amount of a payload). All this makes it possible to use the TriCal for automatic accuracy and repeatability evaluation as well as for the calibration of industrial robots.
The TriCal has been developed and manufactured at École de technologie supérieure under the supervision of Professor Ilian Bonev.

@@acidgalantis8515 Спасибо! Я заканчивал технологию машиностроения, затем металлорежущие станки и наконец индустриальную робототехнику, все это очень пригодилось. Картошку чистить можно, но скорее всего не так, как это делает человек 😄

Could you use this to train backlash and dimensional error out of the chain in sort of a closed loop manner? You know, build a conditional model of error vector space.
