KINEMATICS | Behind the Scenes (This is not CGI)
Vložit
- čas přidán 11. 12. 2020
- The inspiration behind KINEMATICS is to showcase a variety of robotic solutions and combinations filmed in an artistic way. Minimalistic modular design over the grey seamless background expresses the idea of the project in the best way possible leaving minor details and routine behind the scenes. This video is an attempt to show some of these details in an elegant way without going beyond the concept of the project.
This video shows:
• Linear stages
• 6-DOF parallel robot with the actuators fixed on the base
• Classic Hexapod platform (also known as the Gough-Stewart platform)

honestly lol. even now it looks cgi, but like a compliment
I think it’s difficult for you to do amateurish video; you are to professional! Just take something with you phone; the bad lighting and shaking will convince everyone!
Atlas Hugged Thank you 😊
i just wanted to comment this
This channel is underrated. Very pleasant to watch mechanics being presented in this artistic way. Great work Oleksandr!
Thank you, Jakob! I'm happy people like you find it interesting, that's a great motivation for me.
Who are you... Now my mind says those cameras are CGI too🤯 I just came from the original video
Then check my Instagram 😁

I believe this is not a hooman, but an AI which rendered all of these, including the pictures on its Instagram. Everything is too perfect, including the damn fake hooman hand.
@@brockoala2994 Correct. I'm AI. And I'm watching you... 😎
I think the reason it looks CGI is because our brains are incredibly bad at handling 100% perfect information. The lighting, the movements, the accuracy and smoothness of it all, and of course the video quality. All of it just screams "This couldn't possibly exist in the real world" because our brains are wired to deal with the messiness and inaccuracies of the real world. If you were to see something move with this much smoothness and grace in person, it'd be almost like an uncanny valley feeling, it'd be terrifying and awe inspiring.
anyone else remember that video where the guy records himself,
people couldn't work out how he was holding the camera,
so he released a behind the scenes video that showed how it was done,
but nobody could work out how the bts video was filmed, so he released a bts of the bts,
ended up at like 6 layers of unexplainable footage + video explaining the previous video
this is like that, im not sure if the camera is just CGI
if they have these fancy robot demonstrations, it makes 100% sense that they would have the camera mounted on one.
edit: I looked at the Instagram page, its real (or that page might just be filled with extremely good renders)
Thanks for watching my videos and Instagram! Appreciate your comments!
I have no idea what video you're talking about, but it sounds amazing.
(Almost as good as this video)
Yes I remember this, I first saw it on Reddit. Sadly I am not able to find it again.
I was so sure your videos were CGI. Then I saw this one and thought you are trolling your viewers with a fake "behind the scene" video that is also CGI. Then I went on your page and found the 3D models and were like "yup, I was right". But then I went on your Instagram and realized that this is not CGI…
Your videos are so perfectly made I am totally speechless.
Hi Mateusz, it was so funny to read your story! Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts, and I really appreciate your good words!
P.S. How do you know Instagram pictures are not CGI? 🤔😁
This is exactly what I thought + I thought you were trolling too
What if his instagram photos are also CGI? :O
@@cyrkielnetwork What if we all live in computer simulation? 🤔
@@OleksandrStepanenko What am i seeing? What is see? What are we?

Hopefully this makes everyone believe they are real 😂 Awesome work keep it up!

Хорошо проделанная работа! Все на высшем уровне.
English translation:
Well done! Everything is at the highest level.
The way everything is arranged in the frame and how lighting is used gives it a very clean look. Almost CGI-like.
Usually you would have stickers plastered all over the steppers and a rat's nest (trust me, I built CNC machines before)
Beautiful, I love all your videos. It's amazing that you can get 6dof in so many ways. It has me thinking outside the box.
Thank you very much!
Your camera setup is just as cool as the kinematics! Great job and I can't wait for your next upload!
Thank you so much! 😊 I'll try to come up with something interesting.
I think you need a special license to produce content of this quality...

I hope you never lower the quality of your videos so I can keep having to look harder and harder to convince myself that this actually isn't CGI.
Thanks!

It wasn't a CGI alright. Now I'm convinced. Amazing work. Both the robotics and the video work.
Thanks a lot!
You know how far technology has come when we think that some real life video looks like an animation
Damn, That Hits hard . Keep Up!
This is satisfying as hell. Great work! Precision movement like that is hard to create.
Thanks!!
You should make a 3d printer with one of your robots or something that would manufacture at least. That would look really cool
I love your setup and gear. Your videos are so perfect. Having a behind the scenes look really helps to give me ideas on what I could be doing better for my own channel
Thank you!

I do come back for the beat.. lol
A cooperation with Nigel Stanford would be cool.
I want to believe in u... but this seems CGI to me 🤯
Is coming the day when we will no longer know how to distinguish the real from CGI...
This is the great philosophical discussion bring by your video. Thanks!
Top tip: Surface imperfection. IF you want folk to know your devices are not CGI, dirty the surfaces a bit.
It is counterintuitive to make something look good by dirtying it, but that's what 3D effects artists do to provide realism.
A fingerprint here or there tends to cause diffusion on highly reflective surfaces, giving a lived in or used look.
the thing is, im almost positive he’s trying to recreate CGI footage, without any computer generation, this style is intentional, and strange.
Good job, but I never thing it's a CGI. Keep going.
Man, this is beautiful. It looks like it's from another planet (in a good way). I assume the brass cubes are made to spec? Are you selling them?
Thank you very much! 😊
I'm not selling them, but the CAD models are available: grabcad.com/oleksandr.stepanenko-1/models
@@OleksandrStepanenko thanks :) do you mind sharing the sourcing info for the electronics also? :)
@@schmdt Sure, I'm using Nema 11 steppers and DM320T controllers from STEPPERONLINE.
Hello
More than wonderful work, you are a talented human engineer. In fact, I am looking for robot, and I want to know what type of motor is used ( dc servo motor / dc motor or stepper motor ) ?? Thank you for sharing this works. Best wishes
Thank you very much, appreciate your good words! 😊 I'm using Nema11 steppers.
Your XY drive would be more approachable if the brass parts were 3D printed. Not as attractive but a lot cheaper. Neatly made and a nice small size, not everything needs to be huge to be impressive.
Can I somehow buy or build these things? They look amazing to play with!
Thank you! I don't sell them, but you can use my CAD models to build something similar: grabcad.com/oleksandr.stepanenko-1/models
Передозировка перфекционизма)
I love your videos 🤩.
Where did you buy those step motors?
Thanks! Motors from stepperonline. Everything else was machined.
Next, you should use a modular robot for your camera panning!
I'm really impressed with your work. Is there any code you could share for the 6 motor, 5DOF Robot at 0:10?
Thanks! I can share the code, but it's just a sequence of joint coordinates that are only useful for these particular movements and this particular robot.
Of all the 6dof robots, which do you think would be best for CNC work, whether that's milling, printing, etc., for both reliability, rigidity, and range of movement? I've seen a wide variety of them, but never seen an in-depth comparison between all the various types.
There's the vertical hexpod which you have a video on, the planar hexpod which is featured in this video and a few other of your videos that you call a parallel robot. The various stewart platforms, one of which you've shown, the linear actuator stewart, but there's also a variation that uses fixed-length arms connected to servos at the bottom. There's the various designs for 6dof arms. There's also a hexteron which is 6dof evolution of the tripteron. Etc. So many designs, but the only comparisons I've found are the basic models of, not relevant information that matters like reliability, repeatability, rigidity, range of movement, etc.
Next time put the cam on the robots! I want to see high-precision camera-movements! :D
Hello, very very nice robots. Can I ask what sort of Software do you use to control them? Ever thought of doing a canfield joint? Cheers
Thanks! Software: Mach3

you don't use your own product to move the camera? A slider attach to a slider would have same travel.

You all realise that this could be CGI too right?? O.o
Get a clear wine glass, put it on the machine, pour water in the glass, then run the machine. I suggest this because water isn't 100% realistic if simulated and the wine glass will vibrate more easily.
even this look like cg

Personally, I think it's just hilarious that the camera is on a belt-driven apparatus in order to shoot these supposedly-groundbreaking leadscrew-driven actuators... Eat your own dog food son!
If these aren't CGI - why did you go out of your way to make them look like CGI???
Exactly my thoughts. Who makes a 'behind the scenes' video to expel the notion that it's CGI, but doesn't expose anything self-evidently physical. It would take zero work to walk into frame and show a human body indisputably interacting with these machines. Just make some goofy faces at the mirror finish and jiggle some of the cables. All the lone-hand shots look suspect, because they'd be the easiest possible shot to fake. And in the case of this video, the damned camera looks like a render too! Hell, just putting the thing back on the workbench he built it on would be good enough. This shit's too clean.
could you not do the same thing cropping and panning?

Yeah I'm gonna call bullshit. The cables don't move like cables, and the pinhole lighting on the inner side of the far brass cubes doesn't look physical. There's no moire effect on the 'camera' screen. The film grain and camera shake on the instagram 'story' or whatever is incredibly shoddy; hands don't shake that fast, and phone cameras don't look like white noise has been added to a render. The posts with hands (always singular, half the work I guess) never show the mechanism moving at the same time as the hand is in frame, and there's very little motion of the hand. Could be a render, could be rotoscoped, either way, bullshit. The only one that trips me up is the one with the motor housings with perfect machine marks on them, but there are no moving parts so for all I know you could have taken a real high res still photo and just done a digital pan on them.
Regardless, an incredible amount of technique and effort went into producing these videos, and I hate you.
And obviously if you actually made these things you could dispel all speculation to the contrary by just walking into frame, moving like a human, and actuating some of the parts with your arms, bumping into a ton of cables along the way and making us all feel dumb.
But you won't, because it's a really good render.
Looks like you are a professional...
