- It's time for our first ever visit to La Romana in the Dominican Republic! After a morning onboard, join us as we dock around lunchtime, then wander around the port area to explore the shopping and pick up a few souvenirs... then it's time to head back onboard for an evening show, some time in the piabo bar with Eden, and the adult scavenger hunt Carnival Quest!! :D

We're cruising aboard the first Carnival sailing out of Miami, Florida in 2021... the Carnival Horizon! We sailed from July 4-18, 2021 on back-to-back cruises with stops in Amber Cove, Half Moon Cay, Aruba, Curacao, and La Romana. This sailing was 95% vaccinated (see our separate protocols video for more information on that) with basically no mask requirements indoors our outdoors, no social distancing, and self-serve buffets. Let's do this thing!

It's so cool how the wildlife coexist almost tame. Good PSA some jerks need to be told. I enjoy and LoL at your food selfies although some I wouldn't pick. I'm thinking of a western Caribbean cruise in February and watched all your reviews of the ports and it helped a lot. Keep on cruising!!
Love the port area. We spent almost every night in the piano bar on the Magic last March, it was a great time.
You guys along with a few others I follow have totally inspired me to get back to cruising. I booked the RCCL Jewel for the 11/28 sailing out of Miami!

Great to hear you agree with the no photos with animals. Most people think it's cute but have no idea what those animals go thru.
Jay the Indian food is in the back, right near the pizza. It is a place called Tandoor with really good Indian food. As well as fish and chips.

Could you tell a little more about your experience in LaRomana? Your video reminds me of our experience in Montego Bay, however there was a beach within walking distance. The vendors were crazy pushy and we felt unsafe most of the time. My husband and I are traveling with our 2 children ages 10, 13. Is this a port where we should stay on board and enjoy the ship?
I'm doing this itinerary for the first time. It's also first time on horizon and sailing out of Miami. Any tips, tricks, or must do let me know.
GM. We will be there in September and just booked the rtv excursion. I read throwing out toys (like from the dollar store) is a great thing for the kids. Thoughts?

Great video! Did they really decide to paint the pool during your cruise after being without passengers for 16 months??
We heard that it started peeling during the first cruise after they filled the pool again, so I don't think they discovered the problem until then. By the second sailing, people were apparently peeling large pieces of paint off the walls and there were complaints, so they shut it down for two days to fix it!!
Ahhh that explains it.

Since we don't personally travel with a service animal, we don't really have much insight to give, sadly. That was a cute dog though!! :D

Carnival Legend doesn't currently have a movie screen, but hopefully they'll add one when it goes into drydock in the next few months!!

We had never been to La Romana before, but we’ve been to the DR a few times, and had done a bit of an island tour the week prior. We decided to wander the port, have a shopping day, and support some vendors!! :P

Couldn’t they have painted the pool at some point over the past year?? lol
I don't think they had it filled with water during the shutdown, so when they filled it for the 7/4 cruise and people got in it, the paint started peeling and had gotten really bad by the start of that second sailing. A bit of an unfortunate surprise!! :P

There was a big service dog as we were walking outside onto Deck 5, if that’s what you mean, yep. Super cute and fluffy!! :P

The QR codes only work while onboard, so we figured that wasn't a big deal, ha ha... and we had to have some mystery surrounding breakfast... always leave ya guessing!! :P

We considered a day pass at Dreams resort for some fun at the beach, but they were closed to day pass guests. The cave tours looked awesome, but we wouldn't have been able to share video, since it's not permitted according to the wording in the excursions. Altos De Chavon looked like an hour or two of fun, but wandering around in the heat with no home base while wearing a mask didn't appeal as much as it could have, ha ha... so we did the best we could with the time we had... sorry to disappoint!! :P
