  • I have to leave Europe for 2 weeks to be allowed entry into the US to get to New York for my collaboration with Christie's, so I've opted for a very sweet exile in Barbados! Meanwhile, back at Lalande, Cat returns, and work starts on the grand salon panelling...

      @Susan Dole exactly! I had to laugh over that! Made me feel warm and fuzzy haha; all is right in LaLande World with such a goings-on lol! And you in know it is a LaLande thing when the workshop attendees casually expect such things at LaLande, in fact I'm sure they wouldn't feel like it was a proper workshop without some sort of LaLande Happening lol! Yearly Tradition😁

    What Stephanie said about La Redoute catalogue makes me feel nostalgic... When I was a little girl my grandma was living in Belgium and during every visit I was cutting out paper people from a catalogues and playing with them. Also I was cutting out all the furniture, gluing them to a big piece of paper and making a nice living spaces for my paper dolls. Such a good memories!

    Amory's voice is like velvet.
    He could seriously be an announcer, voice-over actor, audiobook reader…..oh wait! I’ve got it! A reader for one of those stories on a sleep app like Calm. Or he could just read the phone book…whatever. Right up there with Matthew McConahay. If MM is Texas velvet, Amory is English velvet. 😊

    This is spectacular! Now I have Barbados on my travel list. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful journey. I think - just my observation- the bed you showed at 21:38 is of island mahogany and very much like ones made there in the Caribbean ( especially Grenada) around the 1830s. I wish you safe travels and so excited to see what you create for Christies! 🤗🤗

      Stephanie's aunt gave her a canopy mahogany bed for her birthday. It is a small one so will go into a single bedroom.

    Ooooooooooh you two! I’m terribly jealous now! Barbados has been high on my bucket list of destinations and now has risen even higher. This looks like one of the most laidback places on earth. I hope you have a safe flight to New York and a wonderful experience with Christie’s.

    There is water shortages in Barbados so one should restrict oneself to one shower a day. Most of the islands have minimal water and should be rationed as they are reliant on rain. People going to hotels should also use water sparingly with thoughts of the local residents.

      Why don't they collect rain in rain barrels or other more modern, natural conservation efforts like using the salt water instead? The applications really aren't that complicated and would solve all of these sort of problems in no time.

    • @ttbko
      @ttbko Před 2 lety +9

      @@hahna77 they do. People who live in regions where water is an issue are far more creative than you might think when it comes to collection, use and preservation. The issue is almost always the visitors because the people who love to visit the Caribbean are often people who live where water is not an issue.

    • @hahna77
      @hahna77 Před 2 lety

      @@ttbko I believe that you misunderstood my comment. Modern resources can turn saltwater into freshwater. Perhaps someone there is already looking into implementing it. BTW, I do live on an island, but we do not conserve nor have any water issues.

    • @carolinegooder7091
      @carolinegooder7091 Před 2 lety

      @@hahna77 Salt water to fresh is a very expensive investment and if used for farming is bad for land over time. Stephanie stated she would use showers only. The Hotel could remove tubs and gently educate visitors about water issues. I grew up with water issues and they are getting worse even in Eastern and South Eastern USA.
