Little known fact. Although impressive display of precision, these guys are not real Marines. They were actually cadets at Texas A&M which has the best collegiate drill team in the nation. The Marine drill team uses M1 Garand. These cadets use 1903 Springfield. If you look closely at the bayonet, there is the Texas AM logo.

4:17, just noticed thaf one of the men seemed to be lower ranked (looking at his patch on his shoulder) I though in these "presentations" (sorry, don't know the name of these) everyone had the same rank? Why the random lower-ranked man?

Santiago was one of those who would be seen in a study group, does little to no work effort and still gets credit for what his classmates did. And then gets jumped after school. But this is the Marine equivalent to that scenario.

I never understood why the whole movie was about disciplining a marine and following orders to do so since closing all his airways is a clear murder attempt. He was left to die from asphyxiation so what kind of disciplinary procedure was that? Even if they followed orders to kill this person these soldiers should still face imprisonment for manslaughter cause their clear intention was to kill the marine!

On the record Col.Jessup discourages code reds but off record condones it if it means turning boys to men and men into strong willed Marines. That's why he ordered the code red but had no intent on Santiago to die in the process.
