I miss this Era of R&C music. The current orchestral take is nice and gives it a whimsical galactic wonder but this hits the mark, taking on the galactic danger and emphasis on weaponry and locale.
Bingo. That's why the originals can't be beat, everything was hyper unique. Nothing wrong with an orchestral piece, but it starts getting a bit dull and bland when it's the majority of the soundtrack. Not a single piece of the original Trilogy's OST sounds too similar, and each has variety and sets the pace for the part it plays in.
Not to mention it also has way more personality. You can play any song and the vibes will immediately tell me what planet it’s from, while new R&C music all tends to blend together a bit
It also felt more fitting with his character, the new reboot of ratchet takes a the very heroey music and translates it to ratchet 120% (hero wannabe ratchet left a sore spot for me). The underground house funk style that the old games had really made it feel like you were this character that was very far away from the mainstream and it hit a very specific demographic of people who played it.
@@RebeldeMexicano345That's so true, like every track in the first and second Ratchet and Clank games sounded unique for every planet, and even in different areas. I noticed more militant horns and drums starting in Up Your Arsenal, and PS3 really just went full orchestra (although some techno tracks were on the radio in Crack in Time, or some scattered tracks in All 4 One or the 2015 reboot).
Such a shame video game music don't use many breakbeats in video games anymore but it nice to know what David bergeaud used to make ratchet and clank soundtracks thanks for reupload
I wish they would still use them too.
at least into the spiderverse used breakbeat music on the movie!
@@PatoGuzmanAd i didn't know that, good to know
Watch me change that
@@rbeng1095 dont say things you dont know are true
The choice of music for these games was so cool, it’s what makes them memorable (as well as the story)
Okay now I understand why his music are so good
I recognise that sample at 2:06! It was also used in Sonic CD's 'Quartz Quadrant Bad Future' JP soundtrack. Apparently the original sample was taken from the intro to a live concert version of 'Hotter than Hell' by Kiss.
I NOTICED TOO
Me too XD
Listening to these feels extremely unnerving, like the uncanny valley, you know where it's from but it doesn't feel right.
thanks to David Bergeaud for influencing my music taste in such a good way
great video man :)
Late 90s/Early 2000s video game soundtracks ... such sweet sounds of techno, jungle, dnb and house.
5:04 Sonic CD used the same bassline!
@@annaadkins Yes, you are correct.
@@annaadkins Close, Metallic Madness.
what a shame, I wonder why the original uploader took the video down. There was a nice discussion going on in that comment section. Anyways, thanks for reuploading
original uploader is a doxxer and gore spammer
@@DolanDuking oh....what the hell
Bro love you so much thanks for this!
Wow 2:11 REALLY does sound like "yeahhhh go get his face" like Aster said
I always heard "all we are guilty"
Love these!
I love this and i love you for finding all of these out.
I was looking a copper and found a gold. Ty man, now I understand how masterpieces are created
Wow, that sample at 2:11 were used in quite a few places, also pops up in SimIsle, and on Billy Idol's album "Cyberpunk" (his cover of Velvet Underground's Heroin) but I remember hearing it all over TV and radio in the mid 90s. The march-breakbeats from 2:40 to 2:50 were also featured prominently in 7th Legion
what song in 7th region
It's a vocal sample from a kiss concert
Last time I heard it was in Nitepunk's Remix of Gentlemen's Club - 1999. You can hear it around the second drop.
The 2:11 one also appears in sonic CD I think
This is mindblowing! Amazing how much David got out of these samples and yet how he barely used any for Deadlocked's soundtrack
Thanks for reuploading this video, information's now out of stupid drama
Fun fact about X-Static Goldmine is that most of the earlier volumes' samples were not cleared for use, so Ratchet & Clank is technically using stolen samples sometimes. (I don't think Bergaud was aware since this was a "common" practice back then)
I was listening to Bass Cube - Lo Vibe and at around the 50 second mark I heard Oltanis Orbit - Gemlik Base
17:10 also sounds like this was used in the citadel soundtrack in Jak & daxter
Aye it does sound like that. I would say that it's probably from there, the similarities are too close for it to be a coincidence.
I love this video so much
The art of sampling is getting into obscurity unfortunately.
Not really, its just now everyone uses the same samples without tweaking them like david does
Lots of indie games utilize sampling effectively. Just sucks that I can't get it in my ratchet games anymore :(
Too many restrictions with copyright on top of that 😔
(2:06) that sample in Qwark's HQ was also in Sonic CD's OST! Its in one of the bad future themes.
Edit: the sample you hear in Quartz Quadrant Bad Future. Its near the middle of the song.
Never mind I just read the description…
i kinda wish the samples played first so you could try to guess what song used that sample
I had no idea the R&C soundtracks were so sample-heavy
4:55 That's Gemlik Base, not Quark HQ.
Anyone else hear “the crystal method” in these goldmine cds? Man i miss these sounds 😌
Same! I heard Trip Like I Do's intro recently and instantly got reminded of gemlik base
@@tijon1350I thought i was the only one. Miss these tunes.
i believe very little things can peak ratchet and clank
cool
2:11
We gonna get his face!
Noooice
Did anyone happen to download any of the videos from the person who uploaded the full x static goldmine libraries and jungle warfare? Their channel got deleted.
Yeah, he got rare goldmines (pun intended) avaliable for download.
@@RafaelSouza-lm5qr I downloaded the other x static goldmine 1 through 5 but not any of the others. Trying to find all the samples used in the first ratchet and clank game
Please upload them
@@rdog3670Can u upload them plz?

8:29
Is it ok to use those samples in my game ?
it was ok to use for his, so I suppose it is ok, just make it original
A little disappointed (not of the video), I thought that david bergeaud's music was 100% original.
Who tf finds this
people like me because we're trans and autistic tee hee
do you by any chance know what orchestral libraries were used? I've been trying to look for snare sounds and rolls like the one found in Aranos level in Ratchet and clank 2
splice
@@WH33LSP1N haha good one...
@@jeferodriguez7136 Any marching military kind of snares will do, Spitfire Percussions got them, CinePercs too, EW etc.
@@SmallerMoen i ended up finding pretty much the same snare sound on a triton which is possibly used in this time period...thank you though!!!
iirc all of the "Live Instruments", the orchestral stuff, was made by David himself
