  • I work at making the replacement start/stop lever fit into the bushings on the turntable Then it's a matter of aligning the lever properly. That's when Murphy makes his appearance.

    I would have chucked the extra length in my drill press and ran the file on the exposed shaft until I had the right diameter. Then I would have cut off the extra length. As you are said, there are many ways to do things,

      Arrrr. That's a mighty good idea!! Next time for sure.

    Reading online and from what I can remember about this table. You need the auto or manual spindle for it to auto stop. I think how it works auto or manual is the the spindle on the auto turns at the bottom to drop but no records ant stops turning and turns off unit. The manual spindle does not turn at the bottom at all so the unit well always stop and cut power.
    No spindle the unit will not stop at all. I could be wrong on this since it has been a long time since I used a dual.

    Jim,
    Perhaps the Mrs. will let you buy a 3D printer so you could make parts like a new lever to fit on top of the shaft next time you have something needing a new hard to find part.

      I'd be fixing the 3D printer in my shop. I have thought about making knobs for radios but I think someone else is actually doing that.

    You are wrong. There are 3 ways to do things. The right way, the wrong way, and MY way!

      A bit too soon for that. The next video will focus on the mechanism and it's problems.

    should be able to take the plastic off from the metal shaft it will be screwed on or there's a grub screw or it's glued, just take the plastic off and put it on the other shirt epoxy back in position if it's too loose.

      @johnsweda2999 Před 7 lety

      was it automatically going in to stop before you dismantled the mechanism you might have put part of the mechanism upside down check the flat piece with the bushing is this upside down. look on the plastic rotary wheel how it's engaging to force the stop, if there's too much reach on that mechanism it can't force it to stop!

      I had a look at the other video and yes it's the right way round but I thought I noticed a spring or piece of Spring Steel on the end is there anything there? I wonder if it's just binding and it's missing it's stop put the end in a drill and use the file and grind it down till the end of the plastic, Would have been a better way in the first place to do it then using a voice. as I said put it upside down manually turn the plastic cog and watch How it's turning itself off, some adjustment probably needed somewhere should be a piece of metal over the plastic cog as well what's used for this purpose what's spring loaded not sure if all of them have it? where the gap is in the cog.

      Next video will reveal a lot about how the mechanism works - or doesn't work.

      Jim Lindenas I was wondering why you had this slit at the top of the spindle on the original a spring or something should be connected there, it wouldn't just be there? you found something out!! something is not right where the bar is it's cut on a slope! and the pin from the mechanism goes into it? it should ride up and down on something but there's nothing there to ride up and down on, it would be made like that otherwise no reason to have the slope otherwise it just be flat at the end with the slit you should check there anything in the manual blown diagram

    • @JimsRadioShop
      @JimsRadioShop  Před 7 lety

      I noticed the slit there too but I said to myself that there's no spring there so it doesn't matter. In other words, it's just there. But you pointed out that things like that are not usually 'just there'. I will check the manual . . .If I'm reading the manual correctly, there should be an E clip there to ensure the start lever doesn't drop below the end of the shaft. I don't remember removing one from there and I don't think it's critical - unless I cut the shaft too short. Hope not.

    I once replaced a piston in an old car and also filed down the shaft it went on that was marred, it did not not go well....to put it mildly, it burned up! and I have to admit I thought your filed down shaft would suffer a similar fate and not work properly. Replacing a machined part with something filed by hand just does not go well in my experience.

      I had my doubts too. The story is not over yet. I'm still working on getting the turntable to stop automatically.
