Swales across the hill, one below the other with fruit tree guilds planted on the berms to stabilize the swales. They'll capture the water and hold it/slow it down eliminating the erosion. On the road dig a series of cross ditches and direct the runoff to the side into a drainage ditch. Incorporate gabion cages at regular intervals to slow the runoff. It's what we've done for decades to control runoff and it works. Best of luck and God Bless.

Your daddy is exactly right Andy. I'll be 61 next month and I can tell the weather has changed a lot in the last 45-50 years. We go from one extreme to another. This month, we've had nights in the teens and others where you could bring tobacco in order. Jacob has learned what a water furrow is and what it's for.

If you will check with your natural resource office they will send a person out to look at your erosion and give you suggestions on how to correct the problems plus there are programs you would qualify for on erosion control assistance. Maybe this will help

Good video Megan and Andy on the trials and trouble of the rain run off.. always we need to try to keep as much of the soil in place but it’s a consent concern..from year to year to adjust. Good luck with your fixes, look forward to some of your remedys. Great to see Jacob helping to do his part:)

Andy dig the over flow pond out bigger and use what you dig out on the road, put an over flow pipe in so when the pond gets a lot of water in it will flow thru the pipe and across the road, I am sure the cows whould like that in the heat of summer to get into and stand. If you could direct all of that water into the pond would be much better, lots of work but sounds like you have the equipment to do it and of course you will have to wait until spring or just into summer when it is dry and you can see what you are doing.

A row of silt fence will help a lot to slow that water down. Placed in a v where the water runs. It won't divert the water but it will slow it down to the point that it won't wash out and do damage.

  • @olddawgdreaming5715

Howdy folks, just letting you know we are having the same problem way southwest of you with controlling the ditch waters. It gets bad and the town can't help and the state won't either and you better not divert the water onto someone else's property. So the point is live up at the top of the hill and watch where you send the water. You folks are doing great diverting the water to the creeks. Keep up the good work. Fred.

Andy, you and your wife have some good ideas. It is good to catch those erosion problems when they are small, otherwise they become large and expensive. And of course you already know that. At least you don’t have Florida’s problems. I guess they are going to have to build sea walls to keep the rising water from flooding the whole state? Good video as always. Walter Mutz

I am so sorry this is happening to you guys. Our water runs straight into our pig pen and some days they have NO dry place to lay, but we have no other space to put them. Still trying to figure that out. Maybe where your perennials are is below your pig pen is, you could dig some dry creek beds leading to the ditch (once you get it cleaned out) where you see the rain going through the mulch, and fill with rocks, and plant around those? I'm just thinking out loud because I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. lol. Good luck and keep us updated!

I'll get a lot of mushrooms in the spring and early summer and then nothing till fall. Summers are hotter. We got like 5 inches of rain at a times here since the weather has changed floods out a lot of my property. 😢

I was gonna say about the same as Kencornelius9684 for the road, but on my long driveway that goes down a hill, after I dug the cross ditches, I put down a layer of #57 gravel (even in cross ditches … ditches. Ditches Drain to low or side the water flows to.) and now I do not have a river running under my doublewide. ( the gravel slows down the water so it does not wash away the gravel.

Would planting trees to run along the edge of the road on the pasture side help any? What about collecting the rain water near the top of the hills in a tank before it flows down the hill then using the water you collected for different things around the farm? Maybe digging a culvert under the road where the rain would initially meet the road to a ditch that could funnel it to a bigger pond or divert the ditch to lead the water to the creek.
