When I first played the game, I thought it was awful. Then I realised (after I had already played the whole game) that you could use A or B to change how much the stage tilted and that definitely made the game better once I found out about that.
The ending involves you typing in a 3-digit name and playing through an ice level while the credits play at the top.
Edit: I don't actually know if you play the level or if it's just an animation, but you can easily find a longplay of the game on CZcams.

I'll give the devs the props of actually making a Monkey Ball game on the gba, however I would choose Touch & Roll for a better portable experience of Monkey Ball

@@TheLonelyGoomba Touch & Roll is, in my opinion, the best portable ORIGINAL Monkey Ball game. I would always play it when my sister was the only one in the house that had a DS. Monkey Ball Junior on the other hand… well, i only played it a few times, and stopped after a while after some jerk stole my copy of both Monkey Ball Jr, and Pokemon Ranger Guardian Signs.

I think you should do Four Swords Adventures at some point, like seriously, no one talks about that game.
If I had to guess, I'd say BS Zelda its actually the least played, but I'm sure that the multiplayer mode in Four Swords Adventures its a close second, specially Navi Trackers.

Awesome and pleasant surprise to see you cover this game, Goomba. This was my one of my first GBA games back on release and I loved it! I did NOT know about the A and B trick, and I got all the way to Master levels when I was a kid. I totally remember the music and hellish landscape, and I for sure for sure remember i never got past Master floor 4.

My favorite part about Super Monkey Ball Jr. is, not only because it's Monkey Ball on my favorite handheld, but how it has a cheat to lower the resolution, calling itself "Super Blocky Ball" poking fun about how low the resolution will get, but it makes the game run far better. I used the cheat every time I played that it was ingrained in muscle memory
Turning off the music gives the performance a small boost too (presumably because the GBA uses CPU cycles to produce music), iirc the speedrunning boards has a tab on whether or not you had the music on or not

This is actually the only Monkey Ball game I played. For whatever reason I got it as a kid. Now I'm looking forward to Banana Mania next month. I really enjoyed this game as a kid lol.
Fun fact: there's a little cheat code for those who want a bit more performance out of the game. Enter left, left, right, right, down, down, and A on the title screen to activate what said title screen calls "Super Blocky Mode", which reduces the resolution of the main game and the golf game from 240*160 down to 240*80.
Another such cheat is Down, Down, Up, Up, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, and A; which the game calls "Super Enable All". It's your standard full-unlock cheat.
If you notice, it's similar to the Konami Code, which the game also accepts as a third cheat! The result: "Super Nice Try".

Just a note; if you watch one of the old monkey ball deluxe speedruns at GDQ, even the speedrunners will admit that some levels have extremely tight time limits. And that's on the console it's _supposed_ to be played on. So it isn't really a problem exclusive to this weird GBA port.

I sort of love this game. If you get enough points you can buy infinite continues, and all those difficult levels become pretty enjoyable when you don't need to worry about getting a game over. It's a fairly cheap game too, I recommend it.
