    We have a house in Madeira and there are two confusing things. First I think the rule for de is different because Madeira is an island but I've forgotten what it is! Also our road is called Rua DO Janeiro and I don't understand why it isn't Rua DE Janiero like the city.

      Olá! Thank you for your support! No, "tu" and "ti" both mean you in different cases, but "ti" is only used after certain prepositions, like after "para" - para ti (you can never say "para tu"). I hope this helps! :)

    Querida professora, a colocação dos pronomes àtonos junto do verbo pode ser um verdadeiro pesadelo para nos estrangeiros. Então, vou-te mandar, ou vou mandar-te é sempre uma quastão "to be, or not to be" para nos, os pobres estudantes de português. Obrigado antecipadamente pela sua explicação.

    ALSO, I live in the north (2 hours NE of you!) and I now notice the difference in accents from the south. I hear you pronouncing "the "d" in "depois" and de" as more of a "th" sound. Is this more common in the north? Many people around where I live say "b" instead of "v" : )

    I was wondering if you could clarify if 'Algarve' should have the article. I have heard it said that strictly speaking it shouldn't but I more commonly hear 'do Algarve' and 'no Algarve'. I am assuming the article is retained as the word was originally derived from the arabic for 'The West' and so tentatively follows the same rule as 'O Porto' and 'A Guarda'. However, purists may argue that 'algarve' is not a word used in the Portuguese language and only exists as a name and therefore the article is not required.

    • @MiaEsmerizAcademy
      @MiaEsmerizAcademy  Před 3 lety

      Olá Michael :) In my opinion Algarve does have an article. And I have to be honest, I didn't even know that there was a discussion about that. Algarve, however, is a bit different, as it is not a city nor a country, it is a region and regions form Portugal almost all have an article before - o Douro, o Alentejo, a Beira Alta...etc - so I guess different rules apply here. ;) Interesting, though, that you've heard that Algarve should not have an article. I wonder who said that? I could be totally wrong (which I don't think so), but I do believe firmly that Algarve does have an article :)

    • @Horhne
      @Horhne Před 3 lety +1

      @@MiaEsmerizAcademy Muito obrigado pela sua resposta. It is very possible that I misunderstood and overthought the possibilities. Your explanation sounds much more reasonable and as I said, I have only heard it with the article. I had a sneaky suspicion it was a bit of an urban myth. That's great... I can put that one to bed now!
