  • How to use the preposition a in Portuguese // In this video I will tell you all about the preposition "a" in Portuguese and how and when to use it.
    Prepositions are sometimes quite difficult to grasp, and in Portuguese they tend to mix with the Portuguese articles (o, a, os, as), which makes it even more complicated.
    But fear not! I will explain you for what "a" is used in Portuguese and how you should use it correctly.
    If you want to read my blog post about prepositions in general, please go here:

    If you struggle to know when to use "a" and when to use "para" to determine directions, then click the link below:

    Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions and especially, if you are struggling with the prepositions.

    It is true that learning Portuguese is not easy. The use of prepositions in Portuguese is very difficult. Most of the information available on the Internet is from other countries, such as Brazil. I found your tips for learning real Portuguese very simple, lively and straightforward. I was very worried about the use of prepositions. But now I find it much easier. I am really thankful to you. I hope you will share more and more such videos. Finally, respect, love and thanks.

    Olá Mia. Não sei a diferença entre '-mos' e '-nos' no final de alguns verbos no plural. Gostaria uma explicação se possível. Também gostaria de assistir vídeos com tudo falado em português e velocidade normal. Muito obrigado por tudo.

      Olá Sergio :)
      Obrigada pelo teu comentário!
      A diferença entre -mos e -nos é que -mos é "me + os". Imagina: Ele deu os óculos a mim - He gave the glasses to me. Podes substituir por: Ele deu-me os óculos (He gave me the glasses) ou ainda mais Ele deu-mos (He gave them to me). É por isso que vês "-mos" às vezes.
      Quando vês "-nos", estamos apenas a substituir parte da frase. Imagina "Ele deu os óculos (a nós)" (nós não dizemos assim, mas é só para explicar o que estamos a substituir) - ficaria "Ele deu-nos os óculos". Faz sentido?
      Eu explico isto em detalhe no meu curso online: school.learn-portuguese.org/p/a1-a2-b1-b2-course-bundle
      Talvez seja bom dares uma vista de olhos :)
      Beijinhos,
      Mia

    I have a queation.
    I wanted to say "I hope I can fall asleep tonight" I typed "espero que posso adormecer á noite"
    But when I went to double check it the translator put "espero poder adormecer á noite" can you explain? Is there a difference?

    • @MiaEsmerizAcademy
      @MiaEsmerizAcademy  Před 2 lety

      We do use more the "Espero conseguir (it sounds better) adormecer à noite". It is less formal than "Espero que possa adormecer à noite". It sounds odd when you are speaking about yourself. You would use it more in the subjunctive if you were speaking about someone else, like - Espero que ele consiga/possa adormecer à noite". Hope this helps :)

    Compras is a verb right? Why does it have an article before it?

  • @glennover6046
    @glennover6046 Před rokem +2

    I think I'm missing something: I would translate compras as a verb, to buy so how is that a noun? Also, I don't see the word "store" in the sentence so that's kind of confusing as well.

    • @alexanderfelix83
      @alexanderfelix83 Před rokem +2

      In this sentence compras is a noun and not the 2nd sing conjugation of comprar because of context. Read it as "I'm going to the buyings" sort of but it translates better as shopping / shops etc

    • @nesitbotica1221
      @nesitbotica1221 Před 3 měsíci

      I too am confused by “compras” being a noun.
