    Part 2 is finallyyy here! I’m so excited to be sharing with you the final part of Kelsy’s makeover. In case you missed part 1, Kelsy is a good friend of mine and she recently got her very own studio apartment in Tucson, AZ. The apartment is just a tad over 400 sq feet. Kelsy has a muscle condition known muscular dystrophy, so ensuring there was space for her scooter and ADORABLE service dog, Duke, was crucial. Comment below your favorite part of the space!

    My husband was one of the electrician contractors who were a part of the renovation of that VFW building here in Tucson. He was already hyped during the build out because the studios were so cool, but then he came back for a service call last week and it was for Kelsey's apartment! He said is was blown away by how different it was from a few months ago when they'd finished. (+ that Kelsey is very cool and kind.) Anyway, small world and truly great work!

      how awesome....I think the architect/builders have done a magical job on the renovation, I love all the brick and those black painted metal rafter.....one thing I don't like is where they placed the kitchen, that little nook would have been better use of space considering it is only 15 feet which is not much to put a bed, couch, dining area etc....but I do love how the natural features of the building have been turned into a feature.

      Jennifer, Maybe you can help me understand. I noticed the apartment had a stacked washer and dryer. I wonder how she uses that. I am not in a wheelchair, but I think I'd want a bed that was not only pretty, but that would also be easy to make. Not sure moving that many pillows would work for me. Would love to hear your insights, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks.

    • @jennifercase393
      @jennifercase393 Před 3 lety +24

      @@GoogleUser-wx8mw Good question regarding the stacked washer and dryer...I missed that. In my case, I use a strong grabber for my washer (it's a top loader so I need the grabber to get all of the clothes out). In terms of the pillows, each person is different. She may not mind moving a lot of pillows because she likes the look and she does have the ability to do so). I'm like you...I wouldn't want to have to move that many pillows. However, I do have to say that I wouldn't have wanted to have to move that many pillows even before I was in a wheelchair so there's that :)

    • @GoogleUser-wx8mw
      @GoogleUser-wx8mw Před 3 lety +6

      @@jennifercase393 Thanks for answering. I didn't think about her maybe having her own grabber or other devices to help. Regarding throw pillows on the bed, I liked that when I was younger, but now I want speed and just my regular pillows. I use a colored throw at the foot of the bed for a little interest, but no throw pillows b/c I'm decreasing visual clutter. 🙂

And I definitely have to use assistive devices in my living space and, even then, things can be a struggle such as cooking on a stovetop (can't see into the pan). I just saw someone who has mounted a mirror in such a way to see into a pan on the stove...that's another thing; you learn things from experienced persons with disabilities. And I'm too lazy to be stylish...I need it to be easy and functional with cute thrown in possible :)

      @@marturquesa77 hi! I’m not the person you were asking, but it looks like he just bought a basic painting canvas that was big enough to hide the box and painted it with thick white paint. I think he spread the paint on with a rubber spatula (like frosting a cake!) just so it covered the whole canvas (he seemed to leave it uneven instead of spreading it evenly; it adds really nice texture and dimension to the piece when there are some bumps and ”mountains” on it) and used a table knife to add some texture to it. If you have throw pillows on your bed, you definitely need a place to store those pillows while you are sleeping. Even more so with a dog and his hair. I never really see designers include pillow storage. I have a storage bench that holds my pillows overnight. Kelsey could use her couch.
      I find readying my bed to be a soothing ritual. I get my bed ready for sleep before I do nighttime personal care. I come back to a bed that’s ready for me.

      Although, I find it creepy to have the bed directly across from the door. I realize that, living alone, she won’t be in two places at once, it’s just the thought the door is right there that is off-putting. What if she were sick in bed and a friend (with a key) came to visit her? Anybody walking by could potentially see her. I like the bed exactly where it is, that and the window lets in the sunshine!! No sleeping in 😉

    It is so nice to watch someone do decor for a person with disabilities. You'd be shocked at how many things have to be taken into consideration and how most design doesn't really incorporate that. I love when you picked a bed frame with a solid metal frame that went all the way up because it's an excellent grip far and if it's wooden or if it's only attached to the size or its attached to the walls that can be a falling risk. Also moving the bed closer to the counter so that she can use it to get in and out of her scooty everyday? That is my jam! I know that not everyone has dozens of friends with interesting issues but if you were to reach out to more people and do more content like this I would get so excited.

Stacking them on top of each other can make them warp and cause other damage to the record. I’m not a wheelchair user but I am disabled and of short stature. If Kelsey ever gets a chance to read this, there are remote controls for lamps that are super simple to use. You just plug the remote sensor into the wall and plug in the lamp into it and your lamp is on a remote. My mom installed for me when I moved into my home in Southern California. It helps me so much especially when I’m in bed it’s impossible to reach up inside the lamp. I think they’d be great for Kelsey.

    Hi Drew, just a couple of days I discovered your videos and they are so worth watching. since you asked for comments I will get my little one in. Personally, I would very much be distracted by the pipes behind the TV, watching movies, etc. Also, I would never opt for a canopy bed since in my opinion, it is humongous in a small room and totally not necessary. But of course, that's me. I have to say I am glued to your videos. loooove it. ❤(Not that it really matters, but I am a 72 years young woman and i am Dutch so my English is certainly not my first language) From now on i am a dedicated follower. Great job and very admirable work! I hope she adds a canopy curtains onto her bed to soften the masculine industrial look and to close off the kitchen if she wants to. another suggestion is if the tiny nook had the desk swap where the lizard tank is and the desk is L-shape to the lizard tank. I thought sconces light are better for her to click on from a low switch or remote control than two lamps and it gives her more surface area. In the future, if she wants to cook more then add a side table (removing one nightstand) to her height preference that allows her to chop and cook on than the standard height kitchen top or a bar cart. Nonetheless, drew you are incredible and I am fan of your work.

    For ukulele, there are little wall hangers in many stores online, easy to install, like picture frames or a shelf. It can suport any guitar on the wall, its designed so guiltar end/neck fits. Its better than strips, because strips dont stick after some time and guitar could fall and brake. With that hanger you can take and play and put it back permanently :)
