      I dunno, Hercules was a bitch boi of course but he was too a victim of the initial Pandora's box opening, was it really his fault that he was blinded by jealousy. Its not like I blame Kratos, if corrupted Hercules claimed the throne as the God of War it probably would've been worse than when Kratos or Ares were in charge so Kratos didn't have much of a choice as well, but I think GoW Valhalla doesn't point out that Hercules might've been not as bad of a dude before the released evils got to him

He only killed hera after she straight up called Pandora a whore (I can't believe what Kratos thought that meant). Aphrodite just said "look you need my husband's help for you to continue" she wasn't trying to stop him. He kills Hephasteus because he tried to kill him first. Later in game Kratos learns that pandora had to die something Kratos didn't want to happen.

      Wanna know the truth behind this tale?
      Greeks found that if their kids or family had ties with famous heroes who where Zeus kids their family would be treated better and with higher status in society, so everyone made up stories that somehow one of their women was forcefull taken by Zeus (Not willingly ofcourse since they would call her a prostitude which would be really bad rep) and thus their offspring and family are relatives to those great heroes. Alot of people did that in Greece and that's where the legend of Zeus having "plenty of illegitimate kids" came from, cause everyone claimed to be relatives to well known firgures for societal privilidges

      @cloudshifter exactly. That or they were trying to rationalize anything strange in the world around them. Like say a person being bigger or stronger than normal? Had to be the son of a God. Got a beef with a group of people (Crete) and want to make them into monsters? Say the queen had sex with a magic bull and gave birth to a man eating half bull. It's things like that, that make legends extra twisted.

    I think the reason Kratos doesn’t feel regret over Hercules is because he made it clear during the last game he has a rule and belief about killing now. He doesn’t want to kill anyone if given the choice but if someone is a threat and refuse to back down then everything that happens is on them.
    Hercules was a dangerous warrior who Kratos acknowledged as an equal and would rather avoid fighting but like he said once he chose to fight him then he wasn’t holding back since Hercules is a legit threat. It doesn’t help too that Hercules served Hera probably giving him memories of his time with Ares. Anyone who read the myth of Hercules can tell you. Hera tricked Hercules into murdering his family by taking advantage of his anger and bloodlust just like Kratos.

    • @Tu-Li-Oh

      Greek Gods are (in)famous for controlling the feelings of others on a whim. The most famous one aside from Heracles is Pasiphae's...episode with the Bull of Crete.
      I still find _extremely_ baffling there are people that still can't understand that Kratos killed his family accidentally, and that he was not at all sane due to Ares' magic.

    • @arcanefeline
      @arcanefeline Před 5 měsíci +13

      I did read the myth, and Hera did neither trick Herakles nor took advantage of his "anger" or "bloodlust", because he wasn't described as being angry or bloodthirsty. In fact, he was rather heroic, defeating the infamous lion (the one that gave him his iconic lion skin, not the Nemedian lion) and defending his home city against aggressors.
      Hera straight up used her divine power to turn him temporarily insane. It was outside influence, not his own choices. Unlike Kratos, Herakles did not sell his soul to gain power.
      There is only one instance when Herakles killed a man in anger prior to Hera's interference, and even then, he had just responded to someone throwing the first punch, and the death has occurred only because he did not know his own strength.
      Herakles in the myth is not nearly as bad as the one in the game. The game's version is made worse so the audience would feel no empathy when killing him.

    TC Carson plays a softer spoken Kratos so well, granted he didn't want to have to kill Hercules. But his acting in that scene is interesting.
    Fearless of his half brother tries to talk sense to him in a way only kratos could but Hercules isn't having any of it.
    Also mad respect to Carson for not being offended about not being cast again, it's not every actor that can accept someone else in a role like that.

    I really want a scene where Old Kratos goes back in time to God of War 3, he talks to his younger self and convinced him to let him lead the assault on the gods. Then young Kratos sees Old Kratos doing what he can to stop this war, but also never shying away from whoopin @ss. Doesn’t kill them all, just the ones that absolutely refuse to see reason. Maybe even a few surprised faces from the gods seeing a Kratos older than them, & from the future, no less.

  • @rustledentity5511
    @rustledentity5511 Před 6 měsíci +9

    I hated how the God of War games treated Hercules. Hercules in the myth was extremely similar to Kratos's situation. Kratos was a demi-god favored by Zeus, who went on a great many journeys to help people around the world, and he was manipulated by Hera to kill his wife and his sons. Hercules suffered from a lot of despair and felt like he was worthless, and he spent years trying to redeem himself for his failure. Hercules meditated and became more quiet and reflective over his life, and he pursued religion and inner peace to change his life for the better. After a long time he remarried and had children again. Eventually Hercules became Zeus's chosen one, and he ascended to the status of a full god and helped Zeus fight off the giants (the giants and the Titans are different in mythology) to save Olympus.
    Hercules in essence went through the same character arc as Norse Saga Kratos. If God of War Hercules was accurate to the mythology he would have been calm and somber like modern Kratos is. Hercules went through the same trauma as Kratos, but didn't use it as an excuse to destroy everything around him. It would have been a more meaningful story if Kratos killed a calm and composed Hercules who was acting in good faith, and by the time of the Norse Saga Kratos remembers the death of Hercules as one of the people who didn't deserve it. It's a wasted opportunity.
