I have to thank you guys. Because you were really invested in the fortunes, you kept mentioning Armin's had something to do about answering his phone, and because of that, I finally realized that that's the reason why he isn't the one answering his own phone during this whole hostage exchange thing. It's a detail that I've only noticed now after so many rewatches with this anime lol.
Omg you're right. That's a good catch. It didn't even occur to me to question why everyone but him was using his own phone. Makes so much sense now.

If anyone didn't noticed, phinx was mostly the one who doesn't understand why pakunoda is doing all of this just for the boss, and why she's not following the the boss's orders and rules he made for the spider. But when pakunoda shot them with her memory bomb, phinx was the first one to understand pakunoda's feelings.

It's because Paku and Shal are the first batch of friends Chrollo had. And Paku openly tells him that she loves him back then, although that was just an innocent sibling kind of love. Paku is one of the members who truly loved him.

It’s crazy how good the Phantom Troupe is written and how no villain group written after them in Shounen even tried to be as amazing
I mean there's Akatsuki. They're not as compelling as the Phantom Troupe, but at least they tried. They had some cool characters too like Deidara.

I feel like Akatsuki has something Phantom Troupe doesn't - a compelling reason to beef with the main characters. Phantom Troupe wins character-wise, but their role in the narrative past this arc leaves a lot to be desired. Akatsuki are less compelling as a team, but are more of a threat to the central characters (Hidan/Kakuzu arc, Deidara/Sasori arc) while PT are like the villains of the would-be Kurapika-centered shounen, but since Gon is the MC, they cease to be relevant as soon as Kurapika is off screen
i feel like it's because many villain groups are written to not get along with each other, constantly beefing
@@loquens5060 I'm not here to argue which group is better. I 100% believe that Phantom Troupe is better. But the OP said no other villain group even tried. I'd give Akatsuki the "try" part. If we're gonna rank villain groups in anime, Phantom Troupe is no.1 and Akatsuki might be no.2

What I really like about this part is how Phinks and Feitan tend to be the least empathetic, the most "psychopath" of the bunch, so it takes receiving Pakunoda's feelings directly to actually touch their hearts (well Phinks' at least).

Its such a simple thing , yet it's done so uniquely by Togashi . I've seen many other humanised villians and groups in anime , but no one feels as compelling and hits the same as the Troupe

@krishpache7271 Because most of the writers try to either bloat them with tragic Backstories to make them or blatantly try to make excuses for them in story so its ok to like them. But at the end of the day these attempts either come off as too heavy handed or just plain artificial (cough Demon Slayer cough with how it keeps shoving in tragic back story for every damn demon)
What Togashi does is write them as humans with their own character ups and downs and attachments and motives. Thats despite being mass murderers, the Troupe is such a beloved group

The spiders are bad guys, but also vigilantes of sorts. Like Hisoka mentioned a few episodes ago, they sometimes do altruistic work. Because remember, while they kill *a lot* of people, the vast majority of these are bad people, or work for bad people. In this arc alone they annihilated a huge chunk of the mafia. That's probably a good thing, societally speaking. And for all we know, Kurapika's tribe might have been a big bunch of a-holes.

Yeah, Kurapika’s general group in the Nostrade mafia were good, but Neon and Light were horrible(I’d give a manga example but it’s a minor Succession War spoiler which is anime only)

It’s mainly because a lot of anime, shows, games, and movies glorify killing. As long as the victims are nameless NPCs or are cartoonishly evil were made to not feel bad. HxH (most times) treats murder as important. Some characters can do it easily, while others struggle with the concept

Two of my favorite HxH episodes to watch back to back. The hostage exchange episodes really bring light into the writing of the Troupe, on how different the members are and how willing they are to fight each other if they really need to. Amazing arc, very excited to see the Greed Island arc!
HunterxHunter is such a good anime with really good plot and well situated. I'm really looking foward to the one episode. Like... THE ONE. NO SPOILS BUT man it gave me chills.

Damn this goodbye from pakunoda actually makes me really sad after reading the manga especially the chapters that were released just last year and especially the memory transfer and behaviour within the troupe is pretty gut wrenching in a way. Man.... I cant explain how much I love hxh I wish only the best for togashi and I hope he can tell his story just how he envisions it no matter how long it takes.

hunter x hunter is one of the best anime ever made,why everyone is begging to continue the anime, unfortunatly the writter is very sick.
Why doesn't he tell the rest of the story to his assistants and let them finish? I feel this is going to become another Berserk situation
@@LuisSierra42 it's his work, he should handle it how he wants. if he dies before it finishes, that's just how the work is. the artist's desire should come before all else; other than the authors health itself of course..
@@LuisSierra42 no explanation as far as I know. You could just say the writer insist on drawing the manga himself. But I saw one comment that might hold some true to it. They said that the stubborness might come from a place insecurity. You know, togashi is well known by his master storytelling, not drawing. He might be afraid that people will love his story drawn by somebody else better than his own hand. This is just an opinion, but I think that’s the only logical explanation why a writer wouldn’t want somebody help him finish his work when his drawing isn’t even that good.
@@LuisSierra42 he isn't sick, he has back pain problems, so I don't think there's a danger of him not finishing the story due to it. It's much more likely that he dies of old age before he finishes it since he writes/draws HxH for like 1 month and then does something else for a year. He is finally working on the ending though.
His back pain is debilitating and very unpredictable so it’s hard when traditionally, mangas have consistent weekly/monthly chapter releases. The good news though is that his publisher is very well aware of how talented and well loved he is so they are incredibly generous and understanding with his contract and deadlines. Everything is done at his own his pace.

Pakunoda was already my favourite in the troupe before this episode but after this my love for her increases significantly, her last line of "hope this ends with me" such a great monologue, i love love that, technically pakunoda betray the spiders because she's endangering the entire group to save one individual (the boss) but in the end she's the only one who died and preventing the prophecy of "half of limbs" because uf she didn't sacrifice herself the troupe will fight among themselves and will themselves until half of them remains so in the end pakunoda didn't fully betray the spider and save all of them including their precious boss 😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤
kurapika saw it initially that he had to kill the troupe leader and the rest of the spiders would disolve so he wouldn't have to kill all of them just the leader. when it became clear that killing the leader wouldnt do this the nect best thing was to remove his abiility to fight ( removing his nen ) this way the troupe wouldn't want to replace the leader and this actually gives the troupe a lack of direction due to not having a leader

the Phantom Trope are some of the best villains' in anime.
20:38 Keep this in mind, the concept of post-mortem Nen or Nen after death. Not much about it, but that it exists and that it can be terrifying and a lot stronger than normal Nen.
It's not always intentional either, but even if unintentional it can be enough of a calamity to force the group to not go after Kurapika right now.
In fact, who knows, maybe that is what would have killed half of the Troupe according to the prophecy. You can almost think of "death" as a condition, and it would be a damn strong condition, therefore terrifyingly strong nen.
That’s actually a really good point. I’ve always glossed over the “laying beside bloody Scarlett Eyes” during Chrollo’s prophecy. But i do lend some weight to the idea that Kurapika would’ve died alongside half the Troupe with Chrollo ultimately surviving.

I'm a little sad that Franklin's monologue got cut. That was one of my favorite parts of the arc. As well as Kurapika yelling at Paku about why she isn't asking any questions or finding it unreasonable.

The reason why Pakunoda questioning did not turn up anything was not that Kurapika was hiding his abilities. Kurapika did not know how to use Nen back then. So Pakunoda was wrong about Kurapika.
I think it's worth considering that this anime continues to subvert expectations. Our normal expectations are for Kurapika to take the phantom troupe out one-by-one starting from weakest to strongest, but in reality, he is the most powerful character in this arc when it comes to facing off against our antagonists, he takes down the strongest of the troupe members right off the bat. We don't need to see him take everyone out one-by-one. We know that he was perfectly capable of doing so. It was more difficult for him to get to where he is now, turning away from basically guaranteed successful revenge.

That kurapika was tremendous, he didn't even kill them, he let them go as if nothing had happened, so why did he make that nen pact if in the end he left them alive?

Kurapika definitely has unfinished business - he still wants to collect the eyes of his comrades and it doesn’t seem like he necessarily gave up on avenging them either. You gotta watch on to know how this is resolved (Note: The manga is unfinished.).
The reason why hxh get so many crazy fans is because this arc is actually not the peak, not even second considering manga. But still a solid story anyway.

Hot take - Chimera Ant Arc is really unnecessarily long and can become a slog to watch at times, The ending and the antagonist is really what saves it, in that sense Yorkshin is the peak of HxH for me

@@jupitertank7133 That’s not really a hot take tbh, lots of people say that it gets too slow at times, however I disagree. I think the slow start is necessary to build up the arc. Also Spoilers
I think especially after Gon and Killua join the others it get’s incredibly good. There are a couple parts that I felt were a bit slow or aren’t as interesting like Gon’s fight with the bat and the owl, but other than that I feel the slowness helps build up the tension and it’s not like it really gets boring at any point in my opinion.
Especially after rewatches have I started to appreciate the arc and in particular I think when the palace invasion starts it becomes incredible and starts paying off.
While not the best arc, the next arc has my favorite fight scene and it has to do with sports, lol.

I dont really understand the residual nen part, can anyone explain what it is/means?
it's exactly as explained. after death, Nen intensifies, and, as Nen is connected to emotions, the stronger, hostile Nen, if Kurapika is killed, will be directed to Chrollo, who has Kurapika's Nen around his heart, and would kill Chrollo where he stands. therefore, the Spiders don't want to mess with Kurapika atm, atleast not until Kurapika's Nen is removed from Chrollo's body.

24:40 I wonder what Carlie's idea of "justice", is. Before this, she made it clear that "revenge" wasn't the word she was looking for, but then she suggested that maybe the idea would be for Kurapika to get more people to help him kill them? (Unless she just meant more people to apprehend them.) If killing is the end goal, no matter what I think it's the wrong answer. In the heat of the moment, when someone kills someone who did something horrible to them or someone they loved, I'm sure it feels good.. but I'd love to hear how they feel about it 5, 10, or 20 years later.
Also, just look at the toll it's taking on Kurapika. He's not really about that life.

What do you mean it doesn't work like that? Ever heard of peaceful protests? Martin Luther King? The ONLY reason those protest worked was because the people protesting kept it peaceful. I understand that it doesn't work all the time but the ones who try to resolve things in a peaceful manner have to be regarded as heroes.
So in terms of the Phanton Troupe. In my opinion they're just a lost group of kids that don't know the way. Would killing them make things easier for everyone? Yes.. BUT.. Imagine a world where you can motivate these people to be good members of society. Imagine what they could bring to the table.

if somebody said that "Ukraine can't fight back! Then they're just as bad!" I would respond "Congratulations, you're a pacifist, stand on your high horse as innocent people die because you were complacent in your unmoving, idealistic ideals."
this doesn't stop war from being awful and not ever being worth the cost. there's nothing more defined by 'evil' as war, except perhaps bigotry as a whole. the Russian government's starting of this war defines their actions as 'the worst'. Israel to Palestine defines a broadly similar situation.
just as Ukraine should fight back against their oppressors, as should Palestine.
Further so, other nations should be AIDING Ukraine and Palestine in the war effort, instead of sitting around twiddling their thumbs.
