    Just snagged a beautiful d800 from Japan for $930 shipped, and am now finally in love with my 50mm 1.4d (didn't care for it much on d7100/d7200). I also really like the 35mm dx in 1.3 crop mode.

    My 50mm pancake! How much I love it!!! One of my shoot is a vintage car in Havana , well this lens is so sharp you can see the metallic particles on the paintwork! Amazing!! The micro contrast well awesome! Little gem!

    I recently picked up an old scruffy looking Nikkor 50 1.4 and I've been very impressed by it so far. It doesn't hold a candle to the Zeiss Planar T* 1.4 I had on my old Contax, but for well under $100 you really can't go wrong.

  • @Smokin07ram
    @Smokin07ram Před 8 lety +2

    I prefer the color rendition and separation of the 56 Voightlander over that of the Zeiss.
    The bump to 56mm does something special over the 50 on full length images. Not for every image of course.
    The 50 Zeiss has that classic Zeiss look which I love!
    Indeed it is sharper, but the difference does not bother me.
    Great lenses!

    Great collection Ken.
    Did you come across a 50mm f1.8 AIS pancake lens (none E) ?? It was marketed as a Japan only lens with certain cameras, they nickname it "snub nose", has no prongs. I bought one in excellent condition, feels better made than the E.
    Any review of G 50s soon ??
    Keep up the good work.

    Ken, ... If you had to shoot with just one lens for a lifetime, ... of the Two : Zeiss 35/2 Distagon ... versus ... NORMAL LENS (50/1.4 Planar or 58 Nokton or Micro-Nikkor 60/2.8D), ... which would it be ? .... (you have always maintained that 35/2 is your best lens ever, but also, you don't use it often, as it is ideal Focal for Street, and you don't do as much street photography, so now, would you go for a more pragmatic 50 or 58 which doubles up for Portraiture ? ... & in particular which one ? ... the Nokton or Planar or ... ?) ... Thanks.

    hey :) I love your videos and I have got a question. I am searching for a fast lightweight lens in combination with my a7RII. There are three voigtländer lenses I consider, the 40mm 1.4 and the 35mm 1.4 mc or sc, I don't know which is better. Which one would you consider me to buy? I am really forward to hearing your opinion.
    (I know I am a Sony user haha, but agree with you i almost every part, just came from canon and didn't want to spend the same money for the 5dIII because it is pretty old now)

    New to photography here. I just scored an 50mm F1.8d mint for $40 local. The cats booty for me thus far. My D80 has the same megapixel count as my IPhone 7 Plus and really craps all over it so far. Obviously, megapixel count is (edited later IS NOT*) a sole determinant in image quality but it’s so hyped in the smart phone world. Many say the D80 is obsolete but hey I scored it for $95 with a used camera warranty on eBay and to me it takes amazing images. What do you guys think? Is the D80 washed for a beginner like myself?

    • @kathodosdotcom
      @kathodosdotcom  Před 6 lety +2

      thats a steal on that lens :) ohhh no, MP count is only a fraction of image quality (rendition).

    • @TheJoeGizzle
      @TheJoeGizzle Před 6 lety +1

      Theoria Apophasis haha sorry I meant to say megapixel count *isn’t* a sole determinant in image quality! I’m sure you have videos going into detail on the factors related to image quality and making the most of camera/lens. Looking forward to another value lens in the future hopefully as well. I probably would have passed up the 50 1.8D if not for your endorsement. I also saw a 135mm f3.5 at a local thrift store for a decent price I need to go back and see if it’s still there... yikes here we go with newbie lens fever. I suppose is warranted haha. Thanks again mate. Cheers. :D

      @TheJoeGizzle Před 6 lety +1

      Theoria Apophasis Also, do you have any material covering the D80 or any of those seemingly ancient Nikon bodies? Perhaps, an article? I don’t plan on upgrading for another year or so while I learn the camera and photography in general. Looking at perhaps a D700 in the future.

    I can vouch for the e-series /pancakes, i am really amazed by the quality.
    I have four 50mm's , a pancake, MF 2.0, AF 1.8, and the AF -D 1.4.
    I am selling the AF 1.8 (non-D) right now on ebay, cause the 1.4 is just better overall for AF.
