      I don't know, in some situations it can be usefull, my Brother in his Model 3 Awd got stuck in snow because the car sat on a little hill on the right side of the underbody and was completely stuck. When he activated slip start, the car spun all 4 wheels and turned slowly on that hill so the car found new grip and than it could move itself away from that hill. But i think you're right, as seen in this great Test, Offroad Mode (which Model 3 don't has) seems to be the best in Snow.

      Spinning the wheels can sometimes be a good way to get unstuck, all it does is turn the traction control off, which lets you rock the car back and forth

    • @GreenTorque
      @GreenTorque Před rokem

      @kellymarie9612 That's your problem, you were on stock tyres which are Summer tyres. You need to fit your Tesla with good All-Season tyres like the Michelin CrossClimate 2. Or even Winter tyres if you live in an area that gets high amounts of snow fall. Summer tyres have a hard compound which is good for high temperatures (12+ Celsius), but performance and grip is bad when temperatures plummet. Winter tyres have a soft compound which gives better traction in snow and icy conditions, but these are bad to use in high temperature conditions as grip will be poor compared to Summer Tyres. All-season tyres are somewhere in the middle. If you live in areas like Northern Scandanavia or parts of Canada that gets extreme levels of snowfall then you need studded tyres.

    All season tires do not work well in icy conditions no matter what car you have. While traction is important, stopping distance is much more important. They are a compromise at best for both summer and winter driving. Given this, I have Michelin X Ice tires with 19 in wheels on my MYP. I live in New England and recommend using snow tires. I know it’s a pain to have to switch back and forth but they literally can save your life. Michelin and a few other manufactures have videos showing stopping distances comparing snow, all season and summer tires. Check it out. It’s not even close. Nice video though. I'm driving Teslas since 2016 and I live in Switzerland. Model S rear wheel drive. Then Model 3 AWD and now Model Y AWD.
    I took the Model Y on snow for the first time yesterday: I mount "Nokian 255/45 R19 104V Nokian WR Snowproof P XL M+S" and they're... "OK". I do live up at 1000 m above sea level, private road that doesn't often get cleared from snow and extremely steep hill in the last 50m.
    Now... On the Model 3 I had "MICHELIN 235/45 R18 98V Pilot Alpin 5 XL M+S FSL" and THEY ARE THE ONES.
    Seriously, there are no other tires out there like them. You could try as hard as you wanted to lose control on snow and ice, no chance.
    On the Model S I had Pirelli Sottozero........... they should be illegal, like, attempted murder kind of illegal.

    So thanks for the video and the ride along. If I may suggest to you when shooting these types of videos, to keep your eyes on the road, and get your camera fixed to the car, that way you keep your hands and your eyes on the road, and no need to look at the camera, as if you’re talking to someone, and you want to make eye contact, as this is not the time to do that.
    So it’s eyes on the road and both hands on the wheel at all times, that’s my advice, because you don’t want to have a crash occur, and your insurance company finds out that you have been doing these videos, and something like that happens, because they will absolutely walk away from you.
