the ability to improvise on a single instrument is a marvelous gift. Gert improvises as an entire orchestra, that is not just a gift ..it is a miracle.
I find Marjolein fascinating(besides being gorgeous). There she sits patiently watching and listening, turning the
pages, not producing the music but essential as without her Gert couldn´t play as he does. Gert is a genius, no doubt of
that, stunning talent. Here, I give a shout for Marjolein.
They are a lovely family. I have met Gert and Marjolein twice now.
It is great that Gert's admirable father continues to film all these performances and edit them so skilfully. When we watch these terrific videos we have a lot to thank Mr van Hoef for. From the beginning of his public life, Gert has always had a good team of supporters who accompany him on his travels, including his dear father.

I don't know much about anything but I know one thing, this guy has gone to a level of TRUE self expression so high that I don't understand how this girl can stand sitting next to him with out Crying.

Beautiful music with beautiful Couple!
Without a doubt Gert should be elevated among the top musicians on this instrument of all time. For heaven's sake, he played the Bach Toccata and fuge on the Stephanuskirk Hesselt instrument. This is genius in that this organ is a manual and not voiced for Bach. Bach wrote for musicians who played the entire piece without interruptions for voicing changes. The two assistants who pulled stops for this performance managed to make this instrument sing a phenomenal praise it was not made for. Marjolien joins him for the Widor Tocatta on the same instrument, and they also place that organ in a divine context it wasn't meant to manage. I love the sheet music he works from. It's original, and much of it is battered and separated from the spine of the publication. We are at a cultural crossroads where classical music forms are not weighed heavily in relation to public (and especially youth) interest. Please support the pure aesthetic of classical music, (instrumental, orchestral, vocal) while it is still a force in this era. We could easily (very easily) lose it!

Besides the extremely brilliant playing, by perhaps the world's best-ever organist, and his assistant, it brings hope for humanity to see a young couple in love, a while before they get married. I wish you both all possible success and happiness in your entire life!
He is playing all of this from memory to!!!!!!!What an outstanding performance again and again. I love any and all versions that he plays of Pirates of the Caribbean. Way to go Gert!!!!

This guy is sick. He is like wine ... only gets better with age. Have watched him for several years now. Love his style. He could play "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and make a masterpiece out of it. And yes, his little friend sitting beside him is there to help in any way she can.

Marjolein does a fantatstic job. Just look at her face and body language. She is following the score, feeling the music and is totally aware of every body clue from Gert. In her own right she is magnificent. That is not to take away anything from Gert who is a fantastic musician, to my mind one of the greatest organists I have ever heard.

I love the sound of this organ and of course the two people at it's controls.
If you watch the preset counter from the beginning of part one, at 14, then finishes in part two over 160 you have to understand the amazing amount of work it takes to put this all together. Must have taken hours (maybe days) to set up a concert like this. Then pull it all off in what seems like a flawless performance. Marjolein is always right on cue and is no easy task to keep up. I'm glad Gert brought her to the balcony at the end as she certainly deserves some credit for the performance.

Gert, it is pure "ear candy" to listen to your nimble handling of that marvelous organ, and Marjolein is always right on cue, it is lovely to watch your videos, the teamwork and effort that goes in to your performance. I do hope you find your way to Sweden one of these days, both of you, together you seem to make music rather angelic, and I hope to be able to listen to you perform live, be it, I do hope to join a bunch of listeners that does not have an equal tendency to acquire the need for coughing just because they are in a very good acoustic environment. ;-)

Gert, this set of three videos from Geraardsbergen (inc the arrival), is one of your best ever uploads, showing the benefit of great teamwork. Your playing of course, Marjolein's critical support, sound management (brilliant), camerawork, and editing - it all came together beautifully. You can all take a bow!
Speaking of camera work. This video is fuzzy. I wonder why. It's a first. Certainly no fault with anything else. Outstanding performance.

I want to see and hear Gert play the cavielle coll organ at St.Oeun Rouen france. I want Gert to experience of playing a very large pipe organ and the accoustics of the cathedral. To sit and play this instrument as the great Charles Marie Widor.

Marjolein is Gert's girlfriend - there's a picture of them as a couple on her FB page. I hope they'll be very happy and maybe marry one day. Who knows?
According to both FB accounts, they are engaged.
