I love these movies. I lost my fiancé recently, and they sometimes provide an escape or comfort amongst my grief. I won’t be the same again, but I’m not going to give up and be bitter. The little boy, Steve, is more articulate than some 20 - 25 year olds today. What an enjoyable film, when actors/actresses knew how to act and they had their own distinct styles and looks. Sadly, those days will never return.

💜💜💜I use to do hospice and would visit patients in their homes. Sometimes they'd be watching these old movies. I always thought one day when I get old I'd like to lay around in bed and watch old movies. At 58 I guess I'm officially old. Enjoying these movies so much.
A timeless, inspiring movie. A family in constant struggle to survive but never wavered in their faith in themselves and firm in their optimistic view of people and the world. If I were in the wife's shoes, I would always be in panic and fear. Great movie. Thank u for sharing.
It is a worthwhile movie but remember those were the 50s and today's no one has much faith in people due to someone trying to swindle others not to mention taking other people's mail. Like the time I sent my son a gift card for $200 dollars and they sold it from his home mailbox. That's why I a Post Office Box for a change since I don't own my home. I rather safeguard my mail by the Post Office this way.
I’ve seen this movie several times and I never tire of it. This is a great movie and I aim to share it with others where I live and show it on movie night because I think we are never too old to enjoy the quality of this movie!! Thank you so much for bringing it to CZcams
This was the first time I have watched this movie. Forsyth, Young, Buchanan, McHugh and the entire cast were a delight to watch! A heartwarming 50's film. One of my new favorites. Thank you!
Shades of Penny Serenade, but without the tragic side. Fun! Thanks so much! Now on my disc list for future purchase (I like to test drive films first).
It's a wonderful movie - and in the tone and tradition of A Wonderful Life. Funny, warm, touching. Maybe it's just the old newspaperman in me that makes me love it so much, you might say. But I think it's more my love of the great values, performances and standards of decency and humanity held up by so many of these old movies rather than a lot of the dross made nowadays. And they are as young and fresh in spirit as they were when they were made. Unlike some of us.
This sure was Loretta Young's movie. Uncanny resemblance to my first "one who got away" - and not just in looks, either. My missus would understand perfectly, because our marriage has a lot of the same qualities as the one portrayed here. Which is what made it so watchable. There's a lot of romance in newsprint. Something to keep in mind. That the rolling cameras never did rub out the flaws of that era, as much as lovingly capture them. It still amazes me to look through the window into that world, and realize that it wasn't artificially fabricated. What we're seeing is exactly what was. I grew up in a small town farming community that wasn't so very different. The thing about retired farmers who moved into town - they never get rid of anything, if it still works. Saw a few horn and bell wall phones, old cars from the 1930's iceboxes, and a bunch of other stuff that felt like living in a Norman Rockwell painting. Still life with a whole lotta movement. Meanwhile the closest city looked like thirty years into the future. As much as I loved the entire movie overall, I spotted the hidden dark side. Small town judgements. Which are what I moved away from and left behind when I was 16. But there was never anything wrong with growing up in a Huck Finn kid's paradise. For that, I'll always be thankful.

Ahhhhhh!!! Loretta Young, where does one begin charm, beauty, poise, style ,dignity those are the qualities that were brought to the screen by both actors that are sorely missed!
My goodness, this movie was made a year before I was born. I am fascinated by the way they show the type of culture people were surrounded by. So soon after WWII ended, Americans enjoyed these times. In Germany, for my parents, life was different. Thank you for uploading this. Makes me grateful for the present.
I was Born in 1944 and my family's way of life was idealic in 40's and 50's. Mid 60's with "the pill" changed everything...no boundaries, total moral slippage down, down, to what we see today.😢
AMERICA'S HEART AND MORALS WRAPPED UP IN A DELIGHTFUL FILM. Bless you for making this available for thousands of people to enjoy again. What a breath of fresh air. How starkly different to today's fare....
i LOVE THESE WONDERFUL classics full of lovely happy classical music!!! i hate the movies of today, nothing but violence sex, swearing!!! and people back then dressed with class and elegance, unlike people today going out in pajama pant sweats hoodies, so messy!!! i love thepretty hats, dresses, matching gloves etc.
I grew to love Loretta Young in Australia as a young boy of 11, we were £10 pommie migrants and Loretta was on Channel 9 Loretta Young Show, just the best..
These films always remind me of my late Father-in-Law Sunday was family day, roast dinner followed by a movie in the afternoon, he always said “If it’s black & white it must be a good film” he would have been in his element to be able to watch these films on the internet.
What a nice, heartwarming movie! I love old movies, and I'm a big Frank McHugh fan, but I confess I've never seen this movie before. I've always enjoyed Regis Toomey's (the mayor) work, especially in "Meet John Doe". Edgar Buchanan reprises (or prequels?) his tender scene of changing a baby's diaper (someone else mentioned "Penny Serenade"), and I found it touching and sweet, sort of like "3 Godfathers" with John Wayne and Harry Carey Jr. I'm happy to say that after only one viewing, "It Happens Every Thursday" has already become one of my favorite movies.
I agree! And out of all you listed, this is the only 1 I haven't seen! I have to find a way to get it to my Mom! She doesn't have internet access! This would definitely be 1 to try & get for personal libraries though! Lol 3 Godfathers is 1 of Mom's favorites! She would love this too!
Yes, thank you, Chris. This is exactly what I like to watch. Fun, wonderful loving films that make the hearts grow warm and memories of good times in ones life can resurface and sort of be a part of what one is watching. They wanted to make good films then, the way we like them. Today, its a younger audience they play to, as is obvious. But as long as we can watch these and every once in a while, maybe see one we didn't get to watch, thats great.
This was a very enjoyable movie. I have to agree with what others have been saying. This movie represents the fabric of America in the 1950's - decent, moral, virtuous, godly. Those values are not completely gone, but they have been diminished quite a bit. However, let's not despair. Instead, we need to share love and goodness with those around us and see if we can't turn things around.
These old movies misrepresent the fabric of America in the 1950's. I grew up in two small towns in middle America during the 1950s and let me tell you there was little that was virtuous or godly about them. The small towns that I grew up in had their share of ungodly women walking the streets, its house of ill repute, conniving women sleeping with other womens' husbands, the town pervs lurking behind abandoned buildings, closet homosexuals lurking in parks and dark alleyways, heroin addicts sleeping in houses of ill repute, the town drunk, the town whore, and what have you. You got all the gossip after Church on Sunday when mostly the women would gather in front of the Chruch to talk about all of the above.
Things aren' always what they appear to be. At least I made an effort to be self reliant. I have never done something wrong then pretended to be virtuous. I don't need lectures from bad people who I think are offensive. What I don't like is when two people try to trick others into helping out then post movies like these to an individuals site. It shows how really far down morals have gone.
I grew up watching these lovely B n W movies, and honestly there aren’t many to compare. Those truly were great days. Thank you for a few brief moments back in time. 👋🇬🇧
Great story. I like that it is realistic that the town does not welcome them 100%, and that some even try to run them out or get them to pay them off. That is more like real life. What I love is that the couple choose to disregard gossip and stick to their values. Honesty and community win out. The small townspeople are not perfect because they live in a small town, instead, they are a mix, like everywhere else. Loretta Young is very strong in this.
I love this old movie 🎥 I have seen it several times over the years but I’m still enjoying it I love all the actors and actresses and I think that they made a wonderful movie such a good script it’s heart warming and funny and clean they don’t make movies like these anymore it’s such a shame Thank you for playing it and keep up the good work u tube
Movies like this keep me sane with the current political environment in this country and the media beating it into us 24-7. Also I've reached an age after 4 - 5 years I've forgotten I've watched a movie and it's new all over again.
Lol! Same here. I had a brain injury years ago, from being hit by a car. It affected my memory, and I can watch a movie several times before I can remember the ending, especially. It's a blessing, and a curse...😏 it's moreso as the years go by.

We are subject to what we allow! And using old treasures like these help the youth & kids of today see the value! Mine do anyhoo! My youngest daughter, now 25 loves these old movies best! And I hear from others! I have great nieces & nephews I am fighting over treasures in my Mom's movie library that those lil buggers got their names on first, to inherit! Lol Told them sharing is a must! Lol We were all recently joking about it! Family movie night may take on a whole new meaning!🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂😂😂
I was about comment on Steve, too. Somebody's fantasy about the dream son. haha But very sweet to watch.
an clean wholesome movie with a good story no vulgar words. no violence or nudity I miss the good old days
A delightful, heartwarming movie with a happy ending.
Great to see uncle Joe again (William Edgar Buchanan II ) from Petticoat Junction. Cheers from Scandinavia.
Scandinavia!
This is a beautiful part of America's cultural history. I wish more Americans could appreciate what was and remains noble about our values.
When we were growing up, we said the Pledge of Allegiance in school, and we learned that we are a nation of immigrants, a big melting pot. Now immigrant is a dirty word, and hate and divisiveness are preached daily. We certainly lost a lot...our soul.
@@miapdx503 I think "illegal immigrant" is the dirty word, not "immigrant."
When I get bogged down with all of todays Stuff, I watch a golden oldie and POW I'm ready to tackle it all again, love these movies better than any yoga meditation ect, great for lifting the spirit.
Absolutely LOVE these old movies so much better than the rubbish they put out today ...
thank you keep up the good work ☺
Totally agree ..!!

Soo true

Never heard of nor seen this movie before. A gem! So heartwarming. Chris Johnson, thank you so much for sharing it.
Today, I delightfully discovered a NEW GEM that I will never forget ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I loved this little movie and the Wonderful Chemistry between Loretta Young & John Forsythe!🎆🎆🎆🎆🎶
😍😘The acting and the story of the movie are just as amazing as you
I just love watching these movies its the only thing that brings back a little bit of the good times.
I used to watch old B&W movies on the weekends when homework and chores were done. We lived out in the country and my friends lived too far to walk. This is a really good movie. Thanks, Chris Johnson!!
Movies without violence and blood and guts/////Whew! Thankyou
Mara T Yirka , I agree ! I wish they would go back to making decent movies like this . I have seen so many people comment about this so many times . They can keep making those shoot them up movies , but give people like me that love the innocent movies back . I would pick this kind of movies over blood , guts , and guns any day . lol !! Now my husband on the other hand loves the shootem....up and killem...movies . hahaha !! I get so tired of watching them . Oh brother...!! 😉
A movie without violence, blood and guts AND without nudity!
Exactly Mara....Back when movies were fun to watch....also comedy
Back then like my favorite plumbers....THE 3 STOOGES
sadly good movies no longer fill seats since the theaters are taken over by teens, so Hollywood give's them what they want.@@bonniebrown6960
@@raymondsaquet2922 , yes that is sad and too bad . I think it's all about how they're raised too . My kids went through their fazes when they were teenagers , but once they become adults and had their own children they went back to being the kids my husband and I remember raising . Thank God...!! 😉😉
What a truly delightful, refreshing movie! Loved it, thanks.
Such a wonderful movie...I loved it so much!!If everyone was as kind as that loving couple, the world would be a better place
A lovely and wholesome movie👍
Absolutely lovely film I really didn’t want it to end 😊
Ive watched old movies like this for 30 plus years.Time seemed slower, people nicer, just a cleaner, happier time, decency like this is needed today.
But it wasn't better...it was awful..if you weren't white and married and employed.....
Same here! I'm in my 60s and began watching old films in my 30s. They delight me...🌹
💜💜💜I use to do hospice and would visit patients in their homes. Sometimes they'd be watching these old movies. I always thought one day when I get old I'd like to lay around in bed and watch old movies. At 58 I guess I'm officially old. Enjoying these movies so much.
That movie has ;wholesome; written all over it.
Adore Loretta Young. The very definition of “a lady.”
She really was.
Absolutely 🌹
What a wonderful delightful movie.
What a lovely story of goodwill and respect. I enjoyed this old movie.
good to see John Forsythe in a movie..... miss him a lot.
I've only ever seen him on television. He was terrific opposite Ms. Young.
@@MOGGS1942 The voice of 'Charlie' on Charlie's Angels.

Great movie. He is lucky to have such a supportive wife.
Thank you!
I've been in love with Loretta Young since the fifties, when my mother would watch the Loretta Young show. Thanks for posting this wonderful movie.
I love old movies! This movie was great!!!
Am 70 and I love that you show movies like this thank you so much.
You are so welcome, thank you for your kind words they are appreciated.
Shades of Penny Serenade, but without the tragic side. Fun! Thanks so much! Now on my disc list for future purchase (I like to test drive films first).
yes thankgod for youtube, you would never see this on tv.
Carmen, I am 40 and I love these movies too!!! :) TKS!

One of the most smile-inducing uplifting films on CZcams. One I can re-watch again and again
So glad I found this movie. I laughed and smiled and had a few tears cause it was so cute. Takes you to a whole other time. Thanks
Loved this film. So heartwarming ✨✨✨✨
For that, I'll always be thankful.
all very well longing for old values but try getting one person to establish it.watching this stuff all nite is just a disociation.lokk aound you n see what you are ignoring. we are experiencing police attacks in uk for holding 1000pp evidence. all HM orgs crrpt

I like this film and I'm glad for you; you must have had a great life. But "what we're seeing is exactly what was"? Really?

Loved this, such a sweet movie....so heart warming
I'm 65 and I have been watching movies like this since I was a child, sneaking down to watch the late late show. My son (44) has been watching them with me since he was a child. He is quite the movie aficionado and I'm so glad we get to share them. Thanks so much for this opportunity.
Wonderful little picture! I love John Forsythe in this one, and Loretta Young is perfect.
Ahhhhhh!!! Loretta Young, where does one begin charm, beauty, poise, style ,dignity those are the qualities that were brought to the screen by both actors that are sorely missed!
Yeah they just don't make them like that anymore, do they? Feel like I'm sort of looking at a different species.
This was Miss Young's final motion picture. Not strong box office anymore so she went to television.
Such a feel good movie to drive away the blues in these lockdown days.
Thank you for posting these oldies but goodies.
What a great movie!
My goodness, this movie was made a year before I was born. I am fascinated by the way they show the type of culture people were surrounded by. So soon after WWII ended, Americans enjoyed these times. In Germany, for my parents, life was different. Thank you for uploading this. Makes me grateful for the present.
This is a HEAVILY romanticized glimpse of America, 1953. It's a comic book, not a magazine.
I was born in 1959 and am also fascinated with the times before my birth. It gives us a glimpse into the world of our parents.

I love it too. Good days
I grew to love Loretta Young in Australia as a young boy of 11, we were £10 pommie migrants and Loretta was on Channel 9 Loretta Young Show, just the best..
I remember those adverts offering a new life for £10....did you have a hard time. adjusting to the new world and its creatures and temperatures?
Thanks Chris. What joy to watch these classics. Appreciate the time you take to share these gems with us.
Great movie!
Loretta Young - a great beauty
A really wonderful little movie!
Great movie with Loretta Young!!
A happy well functioning marriage, thats rare. Enjoyed this
This was a very enjoyable movie.
What a great movie! I can just see all this happening back in those days! Great humour and even greater acting! Thanks for uploading!❤❤🇨🇦
I love this old movie 🎥 I have seen it several times over the years but I’m still enjoying it
I love all the actors and actresses and I think that they made a wonderful movie such a good script it’s heart warming and funny and clean they don’t make movies like these anymore it’s such a shame

I have always loved Loretta Young. Thanks for this movie posting. Does definitely take us back in time to a gentler era.
