Hey Mark this is a quote online from Scott "Hi guys, there has been some confusion about how the breathing mechanic works, and I wanted to clarify. When you first open a door, listen for at least 3 or 4 seconds before deciding whether to close the door or use the light. If you close the door with an animatronic at the far end of the hall, they will get closer and jumpscare you when you open it and turn on the light.
This game can't be played as fast as previous games, and taking time to listen for the breathing before closing the door is crucial, as closing it too soon will bring something bad to your door!
NOTE: I'm uploading an update right now that does increase the volume of the breathing, as well as hopefully fixing the fullscreen issues for most people. This won't fix everything for everyone, there are just too many computer setups and configurations to account for. I will continue to try to improve it however." he has it posted on the steam network.

I grew up with CZcams and yes I remember when auto generated captions were first introduced they were completely unusable but they've come such a long way since then. I've seen the captions give me exactly accurate subtitles on videos from people of all kinds of different accents (polish, british, american, indian, etc.) countless times.

Scott is currently updating the game to make the breathing more audible. Also, you must wait 3-4 seconds to determine if there is breathing.

I’m a teenager now and I still flinch when I watch this-
I love watching fnaf4 in particular bc its far too scary for me to play with headphones and playing on a tv you do not hear breathing so its impossible to play on consoles unlike the other ones. Its such a fun and good mechanic and the balancing act between the 4 things is really cool. It always amuses me how long it takes Mark to understand he has to wait to hear breathing lol. Like he just shines the flashlight immediately until episode 3 or 4? Its the best
you can plug headphones into the wii u and the switch, or directly into xbox controllers, now sure about playstation hardware since my family never had one and i haven’t bought one

So i just have to turn my volume on my sound bar ALLLLLLLLL the way up to max way higher than anything else then i can just barely hear the breathing but i can. Some of it is so subtle. But yea i got over my fear and it is a fun and addictive as it looks. The jumpscare are loud as hell tho lol. Its weird without headphones bc the console game is night made with sides in mind. So like the stepping just sounds like its coming from anywhere you cant hear left and right. Not too bad but it comes into play with Nightmare in night 7 for sure. That shit took me forever due to his short kill time and me just having to guess which side he was on. Did it tho. Got that trophy.
