      Yikes. I'm in medical school and I learned that Cluster Headaches used to be called suicide headaches... because they were so excruciatingly painful that some people even killed themselves due to the anxiety of another episode coming on. My textbook says that you were supposed to prescribe these patients with oxygen at home (during a cluster headache attack), And take Sumatriptan during the attack. And use Verapamil to prevent future attacks (or at least decrease the frequency of them.)

    4:25 he says don't eat less than your RMR. What if I eat exactly the amount of calories my RMR is, but I exercised that same day, thereby burning a couple hundred calories. Does that mean I should eat extra? Or would eating extra negate my hard work?

    • @tsl-iaht2476
      @tsl-iaht2476 Před 4 lety +3

      My take is you must strive to eat your RMR as a MINIMUM (with proper LCHF diet) to activate the benefits of ketosis. Your body is expecting it, to avoid triggering starvation mode. Reality is, if youre one of those people who gets out of bed during the day, your output will ALWAYS be higher than your RMR because doing Anything (even cognitive challenges) Increases your Metabolic Rate and accordingly your fuel requirements will increase because youre not just sleeping 24/7. So you will pretty much Always eat more than your RMR. The message is Not: 'try to keep calories to RMR level'. The message is: "Eat If You Feel Hungry" (adhering to a LCHF diet of course). So yeah, if you're engaging in somewhat strenuous physical exercise then your body will likely require additional fuel, and if it makes you feel hungry, eat. Keto/LCHF is not primarily concerned with calorie counting, you are supposed to feel satiated at all times (so eat). Just make sure you stick to the low carb higher fat correct dietary choices and you should be good as gold. I should add, im not a doctor just an avid Keto fan. I hope this helps.

    Yeah, done exactly what you say for six months, lost weight, but lost energy as well. HIIT doesn’t seem to help, and my wt. resistance training is getting more and more difficult, even with lighter wits. That,and I continue to be on strict low carb diet, KETO, really, though not as high on fat as recommended, though only the “good” fats for me. What gives?

    • @islaadele1212
      @islaadele1212 Před rokem

      Maybe need more fat or protein, Bob? Maybe electrolytes? Could be low in magnesium or potassium. Are you getting enough salt? Maybe try a good electrolyte powder and see if it gives you more pep. Also, beware dehydration on keto. If you're a big coffee drinker, bulletproof or otherwise, I think you need to replace your coffee intake times two with water to make up for the diuretic effect of the coffee. Not saying go too nuts on water, because I think you need your stomach to be as acidic as possible when you eat. Maybe try apple cider vinegar too if you haven't? Mix a tablespoon of ACV with half a squeezed lemon and a sprinkle of Ceylon cinnamon in a big glass of water and either have one a day or before your main meal. I've found it pretty energising. If none of that works, you could try a short break from keto just to switch things up for your metabolism and then come back to it.

People that want to lose weight fast have a too big calorie deficit which makes the body go into "starvation mode", slow down metabolism and affect the mitochondria

    Research has demonstrated that a slow metabolism is associated with longevity, and dark green leafy vegetables, well established as amongst the healthiest foods one can eat, actually have the effect of slowing down one's resting metabolism. One should therefore be very wary of taking any nutritional advice from a doctor offering tips on how to 'fix a slow metabolism', which is a non-problem.

Im not overweight really but I have a tiny pooch belly and am at 15 percent bodyfat. I know its not advised to go below 1600 calories, so I don't. And as he says in the video 150lbs x10 = 1500 calories I cannot go below. I have dropped it to 1600 before, but its kind of cutting it close so I've been staying at 1700-1800. • @adamjones9263
      @adamjones9263 Před 8 lety +7

      No because Insulin drives Hunger, Just because you feel Hungry doesn't mean your body actually is.

    • @GarryBurgess
      @GarryBurgess Před 8 lety +2

      you're body actually is hungry because if insulin is too high, the fat cells stole all the glucose. That's why fat people feel hungry all the time, because their insulin has directed their glucose to the fat cells.

    • @adamjones9263
      @adamjones9263 Před 8 lety +1

      +Garry Burgess that is wrong. insulin resistance alters that, and if a person is insulin resistant, then the insulin will create triglycerides, and the blood sugar will drop. this makes the body hungry causing a vicious cycle. being hungry for Alot of people doesn't mean they need food, more that they need to manage it.

    • @GarryBurgess
      @GarryBurgess Před 8 lety +1

      Trigs are formed from overloading the liver with fructose, which does make the liver insulin resistant, but it's an end product of fructose metabolism, identical to ethyl alcohol except that with alcohol the yeast has done the first step of fermenting the fructose to ethanol. The body is hungry because of high insulin levels, which increases hunger, and also pushes glucose into fat cells, and inhibits glycolysis and gluconeogenesis in the liver. Fat people are metabolically broken. The only way they can access their fat is to get insulin low by eating LCHF, and also IF.

    • @Kari98N
      @Kari98N Před 7 lety

      elena Sal Eat more of the right foods. And DON'T go below 2000kcal/d. Your body thinks you're starving and holds on weight in case you'll starve again. Eat plenty of whole foods (veggies, fruit and starches) and try to lower your fat intake. You do need fat but not as much as these low carb gurus say. Every cell in our bodies runs on glucose and fat goes directly to your body fat and is just the back up plan for glucose.
      Don't fast (never!) and try to incorporate more movement in your day. Relax more and stress less. Cut back on meat and diary as well...

    • @dianes1166
      @dianes1166 Před 8 lety +2

      if you were 150 times 8 its only 1200 calories. How can that seem like too many calories?

    • @becky4321
      @becky4321 Před 8 lety +4

      He said to multiply by 8 if you are very obese. I don't think 150 is very obese. So say like if a person was up higher like 200 x 8 that would be 1600 cal. and he said that's if you're resting all day. So for someone who is working/taking care of kids all day that seems like a lot of calories if you are trying to loose weight. When dieting they say to create a deficit so one would think they'd want to lower that to about 1200 but he's saying to increase calories to loose weight. I just don't see how someone would eat 1600 or more calories from veggies and healthy fats!?! Plus I never understood how people have time to make & eat more than 3 meals a day. It's not like we are all in kindergarten and get snacks and recess. Heck I have a hard time even getting 3 meals a day and reaching 1200 cal.

    • @dianes1166
      @dianes1166 Před 8 lety +3

      While you definitely wouldn't want to eat less than your daily caloric needs, it is also prudent to bear in mind that people who do have a lot of body fat can use this for fuel. When the body is no longer relying on glucose (carbohydrates) as a primary source of fuel, but instead eating a vegetable, protein and fat-rich diet (as suggested in this video), the body will recognise the fat on their body as a source of fuel and start to burn it up. This is how people who are overweight but eat below the caloric needs get the balance of their calorie needs met. (E.g. 1200 calories from their diet and the rest from their body fat. Hence them losing weight.) Once a person becomes more lean, the calories need to increase as there are less stored reserves from which to draw.

      looks like it . not an expert on this subject but i know my life so if the "usual" cycle is once a week since i am a kid then it's "usual" and normal relativelly to me . changes happens , sometimes a kid have a new eye color , some have 6 fingers which works perfectly . maybe i have this . the natural "power" to poop less frequently . it makes sense in a survival kind of way . you're more vulnerable when you poop .
      could be the begining of a new human branch on the evolution tree ;)

      karilovesrunning not true at all, its more efficient to run on ketones rather than glucose, research it, don't be a brainless parrot

      Margaret Gust prove me wrong... as far as I know is glucose the quickest and easiest way for the body to get energy.

      +Kari Anne You are both right. Its first stop is glucose and of none available will switch to fat using ketosis.

      Glucose is the first choice, because it the easiest for the body burn. Glucose isn't the body's most efficient fuel . Once you get your body to burning fat for fuel it will always have access to unlimited fuel source

    "When you eat less calories your body thinks it's starving and begins to shut down"? Really? You gonna stand by that statement Dr?

      Happened to me. Calorie restriction, not intentional just bad habits around parenting, and i eat a whole plant ,non dairy, no meat, no wheat, lots of rainbow foods and around 1500-1800 calories a day and it will take me a month to lose 2 kg.
